Bought the Moto G5 plus (32gb) for dad after exchanging his 2 year old Lenovo a7000 plus.

Wanted something with a clean UI since the Lenovo UI used to hang quite often.
Dint want to go for another Lenovo and the Redimi note 4 was difficult to get.

Phone matches up to expectations, though a slight negative is with the loudspeaker volume, could have been a bit louder. My Moto x style speakers are still a benchmark in terms of loud, clear voice output.

The G5 plus seems to be a worthy competitor in the 15k class.

Regards

Samsung Galaxy S8 launched.

S8 - ₹ 57,900/-
S8+ - ₹ 64,900/-.

But the negative news is that India gets exynos chip and not Qualcomm.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

So now, Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ are finally launched at 57,900 and 64,900 respectively.
It's expensive but phone has premium looks.

I was waiting for launch to compare it with iPhone 7 128gb @50k
I will go with iPhone 7

Exynos is better than Qualcomm. Better battery life, and much better audio qualty.

Yes, this Exynos chip has beaten the latest Qualcomm on many parameters. But why the premium? In the US, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is priced as low as $720 (roughly Rs. 46,700) and the Galaxy S8+ at $840 (roughly Rs. 54,500). Quite wrong placement of the finger print scanner and reduced battery capacity for such huge screens is my gripe with it.

All devices are launched at a premium in India, due to the higher taxation. The iPhone 7 launched at 60k, US retail at 650 USD without sales tax. Same for the Google pixel, which launched at 57k INR.

Brother, the Samsung, unlike the iPhone and the Pixel, is a "Made in India" product, just like the S7/Edge.

Not really trying to argue here sir, but if that comparison is being made, the S7 edge was launched at 56,900 last year, when US pricing was around USD 680.
The A series has moved upward in pricing(and the experience), along with the new C series, which cover up for the absence for a non curved S8.

I think you can purchase these devices in Dubai for around the same prices comparable to America.

Surprised to see the launch prices, I was hoping they price them lower.

That is what I was trying to convey. Even though I am a current S7 Edge owner, Samsung phones are overpriced for what they offer. And they also realise this. It is due to this pressure that they have not over inflated their prices like Apple but still why should we be royalty earning grounds unlike the US where it faces tough competition. When the phone is 'Made in India' it should be offered to us cheaper than the US prices and not force our government to also react like the US in deviouness of these multi-nationals.

Cheers...

While we would all love cheaper phones, nobody has given Samsung any reason to reduce prices. Just look at what HTC, Sony, LG and Google charge for their flagships. At least the pixel has some points going for it. Even the "flagship killer" OnePlus is steadily heading northwards.

I fail to understand why companys are going bigger and bigger with there phone size. Its like with mens razors. First it was one blade, then twin, and now you have around 5 blades. Whats wrong with marketing people. Soon it would be a 42" phone you can mount on wall too 😛

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I am not seeing any Dual SIM s8's at least for now. Is this temporary or for good? I do not use two SIMs here but travelling abroad I like to have a local SIM as well.

What do you mean? The S8 specifications on Flipkart mentions it as dual sim.
