Nice video showing concept behind Thar. Shows its capabilities nicely.

We have to wait for official review.

I am really impressed with the new Thar and in my opinion, the grey colour option looks the best and maybe one of the best choices if we consider practicality and ease of maintenance. Was searching for a full walk-around video of a grey coloured Thar and came across this and I must say that we all will be seeing a lot of these SUVs on the road.

This could easily cut into the mini SUV segment cars.

Suddenly the retro modern style of the New Thar is mass appealing than the purist old school Jeep mould IMO.

Something similar to what the new Classic Enfield's did. The old bullets were not everyone's cup of tea with the cast iron soul, right side gears, tappets settings etc.

Eagerly waiting for the prices and the real world reviews now.

Well done, Mahindra. This is how a launch is handled. Maybe Tata will learn a thing or two now.

Check the video reviews. The Tailgate is a two part system. Spare wheel and bottom tailgate moves to the right and then the rear windscreen swivels to the top.

Agreed. While both the homegrown manufacturers have made great strides, Tata is still clueless wrt proper launching of a product. Also kudos to Mahindra on properly building a brand. Thar, Bolero, Scorpio and soon the XUV500. Whereas Tata just putting a bullet through the head of Sierra, Sumo and Safari.

Mahindra was being trolled on instagram for the past couple months for delaying the Thar unveil, but they took their time and have unveiled a complete product. Minus the grill. The designers seem clueless. It was a perfect chance for them to make a statement as far as the grill is concerned after the court debacle in the US.

I have rarely found any Mahindra product desirable. But the Thar seems 101% desirable. Be it the design, interiors, the color palette or even paint quality, as it looks on photos & videos. Nothing tacky too, which I usually find in Mahindra cars.

I did not watch all the videos, just watched the last one briefly (and particularly to check out the convertible mechanism - and as I imagined, it's the Wrangler one). While I've not watched all the videos, but my problem with these channels and similar videos is that they're almost advertising the car, rather than discussing the pros and cons fairly. Take the discussion of convertible mechanism, for instance. He makes it seems like you just have to pull it back and pull open a zipper, and it's done - that's clearly misleading, lol. Anyway, eagerly waiting for Team BHP's authentic views.

Curious about one thing though: if Thar is a complete 'car', now, with all comforts and all, why would anyone get this (hard top) over a scorpio or something? Genuine question, and looking forward to responses from people who are looking to buy one/have booked.

The glove box is shockingly small. Doesn't seem usable.

I wish Tata and AAA game developers did the same. Did not even mention Maruti as I have no hopes from them about anything even remotely nice. Hexa and Harrier launches would have been solid hits if:

1) Hexa had XTA 4x4
2) Harrier had AT at launch
3) Harrier had 4x4 or the forbidden combo (4x4 + AT)

Seriously, how hard can it be for a multi-billion dollar company to make a 6-speed AT and 4x4 work together?

One last thing. For enthusiasts, Jimny is dead at arrival but will still sell because mass market wants things that look like SUVs, let alone form and function (FWD, 200cc, 3-speed AT). Besides, I never understood why Maruti/Suzuki hate good gearboxes.

That Renegade bumper is what the Thar should have. The original bumper (designed for pedestrian safety I presume) looks totally out of place - too big and bulky.

The first video I came across that show the opening of the soft-top

Color me impressed with the new Thar. The ride and the pricing are something that could become deal breakers but a great effort by Mahindra nonetheless!

re: The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86

1) A vlog by Zigwheels shows the Electrically Adjustable ORVM Knob on the Driver Door Panel.

Screenshot from the video below:
The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86-screenshot_20200815222352.png
Interestingly it's there on both front doors (the circle on the door panel for the ORVM Adjustment Knob) for the Left Hand Drive markets also.

2) The vlogger also says that when the doors are removed, there is a coupler which needs to be disconnected for both the ORVMs.

3) I also heard that the Airbag(s) can be switched off for Off-Road situations. Not sure if it meant only the Passenger Side Airbag or Driver Airbag as well. For serious Off-Roading, I believe it should be both.

4) Also noticed that the Petrol Automatic has 320NM of Torque (between 1500-3000rpm) while the MT has 300NM of Torque (between 1250-3000rpm).

The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86-screenshot_20200815222942.png

5) There's an Easter Egg on the front windshield on the passenger side, of a Thar followed by 2 Camels, most probably to signify the Thar Desert, from where the car derives it's name.

6) Saw a brief intro about the Convertible Soft Top in one of the videos, but can't find it for now. Has Metallic Struts inside, and it folds towards the back of the roll cage in typical Convertible Car fashion. Will upload the link when I find it again.

A great effort from Mahindra! No doubt about that!

The grille is ugly in my opinion. Looks inspired by the Armada Grand - they showed that inspiration in the launch presentation. I wonder where they got the idea that the Armada Grand was a design icon!

I love the following render of a modified grille. If I am buying one, I would love to mod the grille to look like the following!

Another peeve is the ill-fitting soft top. This is so unlike the 1st-gen Thar which was known for its well-fitting soft top. I guess most takers for the 2020 Thar soft top would be from the police and other government agencies, and they won't care anyway.

The more I look at the 2020 Thar, the more I feel Mahindra will eventually release a 5-door version of it too, just like Jeep did with the Wrangler Unlimited which now forms the bulk of all Wrangler sales. A 5-door version will address ingress/egress concerns for the rear front-facing seats, offer more shoulder width at the rear, and also provide more than the current A-segment level boot space.

Eagerly awaiting the official Team-Bhp review for this!
