Re: The Kia Seltos SUV (SP Concept). EDIT : Launched at Rs. 9.69 lakhs

Got my car's first service done today at Advaith KIA. I also got the steel rims swapped to 16" alloys.

Wurth India has tied up with them and were offering underbody anti-rust treatment for 2.4k, so got that done as well. I wouldn't have done it if it had costed more.

Pretty neat for the price.

There was one petrol car which was towed in there because of rat bites on the fuel supply pipe. They were getting a mesh covering and an anti-rodent treatment. Beware if your parking spot is ridden with rodent menace.

Other interesting news is that the dealer is already prepping for the arrival of Carnival. The approach road to their current service station is narrow and the SA said it'll be difficult for the Carnival, which is much longer, to maneuver. So they have already started work to open a new service center exclusively for Carnival in a different part of the city, by the time it arrives.

I test drove a Jeep Compass last week and the foot well was very cramped.
I am 6ft tall and drive a Seltos D manual. I just got back from a 1200km drive(over 2 days) and am happy say that I was very comfortable in the driver seat throughout those 1200 kms. With the driver seat (and even the passenger seat) set up as per my comfort levels, I could find a very comfortable place in the rear seat too. Other passengers also confirmed they had a lot of leg space in the rear seat.

I wear size 10 shoes and during 5% of the whole drive, my shoe was hitting the dead pedal while pressing the clutch. I felt I just need to get accustomed to the layout.

I am 6’1” tall and am very comfortable in the seltos. Enough space in the footwell. I keep the seating low and there must be at least 8” above my head. Behind me, a person who is 5’8” can sit very comfortably and a person as tall as me can fit with a couple of inches to spare between his or her knee and the drivers seat.

How much were the alloys for?

Were they OEM?

Does this void warranty?

I got the OEM 16" hyper-metallic alloys and center caps for 34k as I like how they match the Steel Silver body. I was assured it does not void warranty.

The SC did not charge for wheel alignment, balancing and labour.

Re: The Kia Seltos SUV (SP Concept). EDIT : Launched at Rs. 9.69 lakhs

Brother took delivery of his 1.4 TGDi MT in GTX trim. He works for Hyundai Motors and was eligible for group company employee discount (don't know the details) which made the deal VFM

The choice of variant was due to non availability of black interiors in GTX+ trim. This might sound as lame excuse but it's practically impossible to keep those ivory interiors clean. We would miss few features as trade off - ventilated seats are the only tangible beneficial feature that we'll miss and of course the 'nice to have' sunroof.

Seltos has top notch interior quality and refinement levels, not surprising though. The engine has turbo lag albeit not bothersome. Engine is responsive and tractable in higher gears. One can use the 3rd gear like automatic to drive around town. Engine doesn't knock at <1k rpm/20kmph and has enough grunt to even negotiate bigger/wider speed breakers in 3rd gear. Motor has a punchy mid range and since it is in run-in period didn't want to push.
As per reviews it's got a good top end whack too. The steering is good but not Euro good and the ride was surprisingly good for 17" profile. Handling was better than Hyundais, held it's line better. These are initial impressions as the car has done only ~150 kms as of now.

Car wrapped up for delivery

Customary requirements fulfilled. I feel it would have looked better with the Kia logo on the grill. The bonnet would look clean unlike now.

The red highlights of the GT variants doesn't match on this shade - intense red. It looks great on white, black, silver & grey.

Seltos comes with a comprehensive safety kit yet it's complete only with his presence

The car was delivered by SVM Motors, Kaatupakkam. They did a great job in keeping up with the timelines (of course being a group employee helped)

There is a huge yard behind their showroom.

The MID displays exactly which door is open and Seltos also gets 'bonnet open' indication.

Seltos has its share of disappointments - only the driver side power window switch is backlit. Even the ORVM controls aren't back lit. Usable boot space is smaller for a car of this size. Kia could have tucked the spare wheel underneath and freed up more space.

Re: The Kia Seltos SUV (SP Concept). EDIT : Launched at Rs. 9.69 lakhs

Our HTX petrol manual is reporting meager fuel efficiency figures- 8.6km/l with 85% city and 15% highway, which is our regular usage, and 11km/l with 90% highway and 10% city driving (tankful to tankful method). It's been almost always driven with a light foot.

The surprising fact is that the MID displays a fuel efficiency average of 13km/l. We also have a Ciaz (petrol manual), and it delivers about 11-11.5 km/l in similar driving conditions. Our 2008 Honda City has been consistently delivering about 10.5-11 km/l. Could anyone throw light on why is there such a stark difference in actual and MID figures of MID. Can there be a possible explanation for such low efficiency figures?

Re: The Kia Seltos SUV (SP Concept). EDIT : Launched at Rs. 9.69 lakhs

Hi all,
This is my first post here. I have booked the GTX+DCT model from Kia Trivandrum.
Anyone else from Trivandrum here? I have been told that the waiting period could go upto 3 months. So, I can probably expect a December last week or January first week time delivery. Anyone here who has been kept longer than the ETD here from Kia Trivandrum?

I am driving htx ivt and its giving 10.5+ kmpl in 100% city with ac on always. Though MID shows 11.5 kmpl. The difference is not so much. I tested it tank full to tank full method. During night time less traffic scenario in the city it has shown 16+ kmpl on mid for distances about 40 kms. So 1.5 with ivt is very fuel efficient for the size of this vehicle. My car has only done 500 kms all in the city and driven during most traffic you see during diwali rush. Hoping it will further improve by second service a bit. I am taking the car on its first highway run coming friday.

One thing I think can affect real mileage as compared to MID so much is the actual fuel going in the car vs shown at petrol pump. I mean if the petrol pump is not putting exact petrol it shows on their meter then you wont be able to calculate exact fuel economy too.

I booked my GTX+ DCT with Capital Kia on OMR, Perungudi, Chennai on 11 Oct. At time of booking I was told the waiting period is 5 to 6 months. Then on 25 Oct my SA sent the attached jpg file that shows a waiting period for this variant to be 4-5 months.

If the waiting period in Trivandrum is less than 3 months why should it be 4-5 months for Chennai?

What is the waiting period indicated to others for this variant in Chennai? Much appreciate feedback from members who booked in Chennai.

Thanks. Regards,

Vidyadhar

Don't get me wrong, but are you using the correct method to calculate the economy, given you have only driven 500km (in a fuel tank of 55 litres) wherein you are reporting a 10.5kmpl.

Just curious!

Put in some more run into it and then check. 500kms is too low to start talking about mileage, in my opinion. Let the machine bed in and then check.

It can be done. Get a tank full (even if it has loads of fuel left) and drive for 100 KMS and get a tank full again. It will not be difficult to derive the mileage by using marginal KMS driven and cost of fuel used for those KMS. It can be done but I can not comment on its reliability.

Rajeev, point taken and that was exactly my point albeit a bit less explicit!

I am also questioning the reliability not the theory, especially when to the general common sense the result seems a bit unrealistic.
