re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Expecting ownership reviews titled Pyaar ka Punchnama soon runs away and hides

Looks like a solid little hatchback-on-stilts, and I'd be interested in the electric version. Would be a great city runabout.

That goes without saying. Not sure why people expect this to compete with RWD Body on Frame vehicles in the market.

Many thanks for expressing it so clear.
Sorry for going OT - It is being noticed off late that threads are getting longer and longer but one really finds it difficult to get "net new information" page on page as content is stuck on one point with some buffer information & echoing thoughts around it which is adding very little, if not no value. This is becoming more and more prominent as our user base increases so be it it the Punch name or XUV7OO spy shots or then its pricing, one is forced to skip contents and you actually know you haven't missed anything !

Please delete this message if it is felt its not suitable here or my thoughts are one off !

I'm recommending this car to my circle. Punch has Altroz's frame, engine, transmission, features and electronics. Altroz has been around long enough for Tata to have sorted out the issues. So, Punch is, technically, not an all-new product and that's a good thing in my books. So, we can expect it to be fairly niggle free.

The only problems that can crop up in the initial batches are panel, gaps, alignment and fitment related. These are fairly simple and easy to fix in production for newer batches. Moreover, these are not deal breakers even for someone booking a first-batch model of the Punch.

On the engine front, I'd just like to see it with the 1.5 diesel, electric and turbo petrol engine options - at least later during the lifecycle. For the initial launch, I'm not expecting anything more than the 1.2 NA petrol with MT and AMT.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

It appears Punch will get both NA and Turbo petrol from the launch itself.

Autocar suggests so.

Lower trims to get NA petrol and higher variants will get the Turbo.

Barring the punchline , HBX concept is very well executed. Front design was wired but I guess Harrier design has grown on me. Modern design will impress all age age groups.
This segment is the happening segment now. Look at the MoM sales figures for Kiger, Venue, Sonet etc.
If Tata can price it right, this could be a game changer for Tata Motors. Wont be surprised if it seats over Nexon once stabilized.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

I feel Punch is a brilliant name from a business POV :
1. Generic word - very few will face any issues pronouncing or writing it
2. Punch -> Boxing -> Tough image - That's what you desperately need when you are trying to sell an almost entry level hatchback as an "SUV"
3. Lots of opportunities for Word play/Puns - Easy to create Social Media marketing campaigns

Honestly I would have preferred Hornbill but I think Punch connects more with the average targeted customer

Here's the front view of the car. Absolute justice in the transformation from concept to production.

Front view gives good Harrier vibes..

This has much more road presence than immediate competitors like Ignis/KUV100. In fact, it appears to be wider than most of the B2 hatchbacks and on par with Brezza/Nexon.

Being an Altroz owner, I will be sad if this is priced cheaper!

This is a damn good looking Car. I just hope Semi Conductor shortage doesn't affect the launch of this car.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Upcoming Tata Punch likely to get few segment-first features like traction modes (Sand, Rock, Mud), hill descent control and hill start assist.

Tata Punch will be complemented with higher ground clearance of approximately 185 mm and bigger 16-inch alloy wheels.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Why is Tata not contemplating on resurrecting the “SIERRA” brand name??Just thought it would have been ideal for a sub compact SUV (HBX) in this segment.
Not sure whether Tata has plans to relaunch the Sierra in an entirely new avatar in a different segment though.
Hope this ticks all the right boxes for Tata right from its launch
Would look hot in an adventure persona edition(a la Safari) with that tropical mist colour and smoked alloys.
Hope Tata is listening…

We have already had the Sierra name showcased as a concept EV at the AutoExpo, marginally bigger than the Nexon. I guess that's where it would be slotted size-wise.

Using the Sierra brand name for the HBx/Punch would be a bad idea because the Sierra was a much bigger vehicle comparatively.
