At Kasturinagar RTO, in 2022, the renewal of registration of our Maruti Versa without an agent was around 2.6k. Not sure how much it is now, since I've read that the cost for FC has tripled. Adding to that, the Baleno's engine is more than 1500cc, so that will add to the cost.

If you go through an agent, I'm sure he will charge you around 10-12k, since that is what he quoted for all cars above 15 years when we inquired.

If you have all the documents in place and the car is in top shape, then it is quite a simple process, only problem is waiting for the MVI is a huge hassle, took us a whole day, despite multiple reminders given to the office, in-person.

How early can one do the FC/Re-Registration of a 15 year old diesel car?

Any in the recent past, have renewed their 'Swift Diesel' car registration in Karnataka? Please advise on cost, timelines and any additional requirements.

I'm unable to make the fee payment online for last one week. The page times out every time.

Anybody facing this issue?

I went to the RTO yesterday, and the official there said the Parivahan website has not been working for the past week.

Probably wait out a couple of days and try to pay online?

Re: Procedure of renewing vehicle registration at the 15-year mark | It's easier than you think

Hi folks. I want to share a situation my aunt will be facing soon. So she has a MY2009 registered Hyundai i10, which is currently under KL 01 RTO. Now, the car is in Chennai and the 15 yr mark will approach in June of this year.

1)Will there be additional paperwork apart from RC transfer (probably to TN 14 or TN 07) and updating the FC (as FC will also be due for renewal), .

2) How much can we expect the whole process to cost?
a) Without agent
b) With agent

I think you can renew the registration of your vehicle starting 60 days before the expiry.

Regarding the procedure, the second post on this thread covers most of the things needed, and the car must obviously be in good shape(valid emission certificate and insurance, paint should be in fairly decent shape, even the bumpers(no deep, huge scratches), no cracked/yellowed/fogged up/water ingress in the headlamps and tail lamps, no modifications like bodykit, auxiliary lighting, tint/sun film etc). Also, to be on the safer side, if you have installed LED headlights instead of halogen bulbs, please swap them back just for the sake of the FC, and reinstall them after the vehicle has passed.

In addition to this, you need to have a HSRP or IND style plate for your car(In 2022 before all the HSRP business started, IND plates were a must for FC as per the MVI at the KA03 RTO)

I got mine (first RRC) done through an agent couple of months back for my 1799 CC Corolla Altis. The actual RTO fees was around 8k. The agent charged me 13.5k. Overall, a smooth process.

I normally do all my RTO work myself. This time I had to depend on an agent since I was on travel and the parivahan portal had issues in getting through the application process.

Thanks, abhirama.
Since I got frustrated with the portal and could not spend lot of time sorting it out by myself, I got it done through an agent. They follow the manual process, I suppose. Got my inspection done last Wednesday.

RTO fee was: Rs. 2012/- (4th FC for my RX100 :-) )

Is this mandatory for RRC? When I got my 4-wheeler RRC done in Oct, I still had old number plate. Of course, I got the HSRP fitted in November.

When I went for my 2-wheeler RRC last week, only 2 or 3 vehicles, including mine, had HSRP. The inspector asked about HSRP plate to the person just before me and moved on. He did not say anything more or deny him RRC.

Having said that, since the new deadline of 17-Feb is approaching, it's better to have the HSRP item sorted to avoid an opportunity for the inspector to deny the RRC, especially if you're going by yourself.

Not very sure about 2-wheeler RRC. Since it is mandatory now for old vehicles I'm sure they will ask for it next time. Only vehicles that are exempt are vehicles older than 25 years IIRC, and even these should have IND plates IMO to be on the safer side.

Congratulations for the fitness done and validity extended.Yes indeed, I too was quite enthusiastic while navigating on the VAHAN portal to complete formalities for fitness tests my two, two wheelers in 2022. But the sluggish and unresponsive ways of the portal and the considerable time and patience it required made me give up and get the uploading tasks done by an agent. They did the jobs. And the vehicle inspections were flawlessly done with the jobs fully attended by me.

Hi Sri Vathsa, Thanks for the detailed post. I have to do the hypothecation renewal for my car. I have applied online, uploaded the documents and paid the fees. I am planning to visit the RTO in next week or so. Did you get the updated RC card ? How many days did it take ?

Re: Procedure of renewing vehicle registration at the 15-year mark | It's easier than you think

I have a 2001 RE Electra whose Registration expired way back in 2016. It is seldom used as it is in our hometown but am planning to re-register it this year from the MH02 RTO.

Few queries-
1. From which company have you insured your car/bike?
2. How much yearly penalty can I expect? (Read online that it is ₹500/- monthly! Makes it ₹48,000/- just for it if that is the case. A very costly mistake indeed.)

Re: Procedure of renewing vehicle registration at the 15-year mark | It's easier than you think

For Tamilnadu and other states which have road tax valid only for 15 years, what need to be the road tax for RC renewal as it is only for 5 years. Vaahan shows 65k for another ‘lifetime tax’ and <1.5k per year. Also do we need FC for 15 year old vehicle.
