We have had vibrosonic in our indica for 9 years. We didn't face a single issue and were never felt wanting more. Please post a DIY on how you did it. It will be of big help to people like me. I am trying to add or swap a Bosh Europa (initially meant for R15!) in my Figo.

I fitted it yesterday, however never took ant pictures of any of the items I purchased, hence it may be difficult for me to post a write-up on a DIY.

Let me see if I can give it a try.

Thanks

Re: Power Horns!

In case your car comes with a dual horn and you want to replace it with better sounding power horns then no additional cutout/horn relay will be required. It's best to remove the old horn, fit the new ones in it's place and insert the same wires.

In case you are fitting twin horns in place of a single stock horn, it's best that you fit it with a cutout/horn relay. This will ensure that your wiring is safe, doesn't get overloaded and doesn't drain out your battery.

The auto market offers a 3 pin cutout, 4 pin horn relay and a 5 pin horn relay. The most commonly used ones are the 3 pin and the 4 pin relays.

The 4 pin one is a lot more refined and I chose the 4 pin horn relay to replace the stock horn with twin horns on my Alto 800.

The same methodology will apply for all types of automobiles.

The 4 pin horn relay has 4 terminals numbered 30, 85, 86 and 87. The pin numbered 30 is where the positive supply from the battery be connected. 87 is the supply to the horns. 85 & 86 are the pins wherein the stock wires of the old horns must be connected. The polarity doesn't matter for pins 85 & 86.

Here is a picture of the relay that I fitted under the hood in one of the additional spare holes provided on the chasis.

The next important thing is to introduce a in line fuse in between the positive power supply from the battery to the pin number 30 of the horn relay. This is how I have done it.

Then it's very important that you stretch the wiring neatly along the wiring harness of the original stock set up.

The horns were fitted in place of the original stock horn along with an additional bracket as I replaced a single horn with twin horns.

Make sure that after fitting the horns you harness the split wiring well so that the wires are tightly tucked away and does not interfere with any other parts of the car.

It's important that you ground one set of the wiring from the horn to any part of the chasis of the car. I chose to ground it to the chasis using the nut holding the wiper wash container.

The horns are fitted right behind the bumper and are partially visible from the front. These are much more effective than the meek stock horn of the Alto 800.

The things that you will need before you do a DIY are:
Horns, in line fuse housing with a 10 to 15 amps fuse, 4 mts of 1.5sq mm wire, electric contact pins (male/female/round hole) 2 sets of 10mm nuts, bolts and washers, 1set of 8mm nut, bolt and washers, a 4 pin horn relay, split wire for twin horns, insulation tape, horn fitment bracket and all necessary tools like spanners, cutting plyers, wire slicers and scissors.

I was very hesitant and skeptical before doing this on my own and now I feel so confident that I can confidently fit any set of horns to any vehicle without tampering the stock set up of the wiring.

Which horn did you go with for your EcoSport? How big a difference is it?

Tried 3 horns and went for the Stebel Magnum TM80/2. Second choice was Bosch Windtone but the Stebel was louder.

I just wanted the Skoda type horn, low tone types. It's super loud in the city and I am successfully able to shoo the 2 wheelers away with it.

Re: Power Horns!

I would like some recommendation on selecting horns for a couple of 60's cars - a 65 Karmann Ghia and a 66 Fiat 1500 Cabrio. I like twin tone horns with a bit more gravitas and not too tinny. Not looking for the loudest horn. I like the Mercedes horn in my 280CDI and the Fiamm (twin trumpet style) on my 71 VW vert (just to give some reference as to my preference). I bought a Bosch minivibro a year ago and was disappointed by the tone and quality (does not work now even though hardly used). I wish there was a website where you could listen to different horn sounds before buying. Amzn should add a sound clip.

Any suggestions?

If you are ok to consider Hella horns (which I prefer over Bosch horns) download their Android or iOS app that has sample audio clips. I believe the Hella Chrome trumpet horns would suit your style.

It seems to have been removed from the Google Play store but available in the Apple app store. The next best thing is to check out horn reviews on YT.

My hella supertones went bust a couple of months ago and I had to change them yesterday. I got my new horns fixed at Chennai Car jewels, a place recommended by a friend. I went there looking for Innova/Corolla type horn and ended up buying the Minda red grille(basically minda's version of Hella Supertones, a little less sharp though). Cost me 1600, the owner of the shop was the one who installed it for me and didn't charge me anything for the installation. The horn is effective, but it lacks the tearing penetration of the Hella!

Goodbye, old friend!

The Hella Supertones, as with many other horns, can be repaired. Just hand them over to a Hella service centre. It's cheaper than buying a new Supertone set or replacing them with decent alternatives. I am not sure the Minda could ever compare to these monsters.

Re: Power Horns!

I have added Bosh Europa to my tool kit yesterday. It is even more effective than my 312W Hella trumpet in town. It takes the ease quotient of my all night drives up by another notch.

Re: Power Horns!

Horn experts,

Need your help.
I have a 2 year old Maruti Brezza which comes with a pair of OE horns
I installed an extra pair of Roots Megasonic horns recently.
The installer has fixed it with a switch for changing from OE horn to roots.
He's fixed a pull type switch (like the ones found in old Ambassador cars)

When the Switch is fully pressed off, no horn sounds
When the switch is pulled to one stage, The OE horn works
When the switch is fully pulled, Roots Megasonic works.

He used good quality 4mm/5mm gauge wire, connectors & sturdy switch etc.
BUT, he said no relay/cut-out is required, I insisted on a relay, he tried with a roots horn relay, but with this, both horns don't work

He said since Roots Megasonic is 12V & 4 Amps, relay is not needed,
He's used the same OE relay for roots also, OE horn relay is working now for both sets of horns.

I'm using it since a couple of days & it's working fine

I'm worried if this setup may screw up my car wiring

Kindly revert if this existing setup is OK

Also note:
The back of the Roots horn had a etching which says 12V & 4 Amps
My 2.5 years old Brezza has a 5 year warranty, hence the worry

Also attaching the image of the horn after installation.
