Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

One of the key reasons to buy 390 adventure was to go places without worrying about the road condition; tarmac or no tarmac I'd explore.

The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!-1614648887299.jpg

So, this past weekend I set out for a 350km trip to return by evening. The destination finalized after quick glancing on google maps was Hastinapur; the mythological city of Kaurava kingdom on the banks of Ganga from the Mahabharata fame. The trip was mostly tarmac and some 40kms of really bad/no roads through the village in search of river Ganga. Saddled on 390 adventure it was off the tarmac that was fun for 40kms - standing, filtering through zillion potholes and continuous banging of crotch on the hard seat .

The light weight & flick-ability of the bike helped balance the bike in tricky situations in off road conditions as my 5'6" frame struggled to find footing on uneven village ground at times.

Here are a few pics of the trip.

Enroute destination; the no rush ride through a small town, amidst tall Eucalyptus trees makes it all worth it

Here in Hastinapur is the temple of the warrior - Karna. the board reads that this is the place where he donated his 'kvach kundla' to Lord Indra

In search of river Ganga; mouth watering country road promising serene ride ahead..

.. but soon on asking a villager he pointed to go back, opposite side to head to where serenity was shown the door and it'd be off road fun for the next couple of hours

Back on the tarmac a while later, the machine transformed into a pleasing mile muncher.

Happy rides.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Completed my first long ride (vacation) with the KTM 390 ADV.
Ride from Mumbai-Goa-Mumbai.
Absolutely no problems throughout.

Report card at half distance:

Every now and then, I feel the itch to get something else. Something bigger. Something faster. Then I go out for a ride with the 390 ADV and realize that there is nothing more that I need.

Wish the bike was happy inside the city at slow speeds. But I don't really do commuting duties with it, so doesn't matter.

All thanks to this ride, I want to ride more. Tour more. For the first time ever in my life, I am planning proper kit to do justice to touring, so have placed an order for saddle stays. I used to be a donkey carrying a heavy backpack all these years. But I am not getting any younger, and while I may be fit now, I need to respect my body too. This saddle stay, in my books, looks much easier on the eyes than the conventional pipes / rods. Will add pictures once I receive and install it.

Would probably buy Givi EA100B saddle bags for touring.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

As promised, here are a few pictures after the install.
Took 30 minutes or a little more may be, but very pleased with the result.

I am hoping that this would cause negligible or no difference to the one sitting as a pillion.

I found this piece to be the closest that an accessory can look as an OEM fitment. Subjective to personal taste of course.
Now time to hunt for a good, accommodating saddle bag which mingles well with this. Givi EA100B & now Ogio Stealth saddle bags are top contenders.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Hi guys, took delivery of my KTM 390 last week from Langford Bangalore, must say the bike is awesome

I am however, facing a peculiar problem, that could not be fixed at the showroom (when I went to get my registration plate fixed).

One plastic notch of the windscreen is sitting out of its groove and no matter what the KTM showroom guys tried, couldn't remove the windscreen from its base so as to fix it back.

Would appreciate if anyone could help me out here

Congratulations on your bike Ganapathy!

Please don’t fidget with a brand new bike as you could break something. Don’t accept the KTM showroom people saying they can’t do anything. Have them replace the entire windscreen assembly if they have to, it’s their problem to fix on a brand new bike not yours.

All the best and hope this issue gets resolved soonest.

Cheers

Installed Hepco & Becker C Bow Mount. I already have same set up for my Ninja 1000 along with Royster Softbags so it made sense to buy the mount for my 390 Adventure. Cost of the Hepco & Becker C Bow mount was Rs.16,700.

Since my last update here, stalling issue has reduced after the KTM guys at Marol worked on the bike last month. It does stall on rare occasions however not that much now. I also started using QS a lot more to downshift and getting better at its usage even in city. I use QS to downshift till 2nd gear, although its not seamless always but it's still better than stalling. So I have made my peace with it. Also, I had busted my right side fork seal which KTM Marol got replaced under warranty as my bike had only 4000 odd kms on odometer.

About last Sunday - Did a short ride to Tansa Backwaters. Pics of the ride below

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Help me with this question guys. Not sure if it has already been discussed here.

Currently I ride a 2017 Fat Boy and a 2006 (CI) Electra. Both have very comfortable seating which I am used to. I test rode 390A and TRK502 recently. Latter has a very comfortable seat and suspension. While I loved the eagerness of KTM engine and its flick-ability due to lightweight, the seat and suspension appeared too stiff for my liking. Showroom guy said rear spring is set at default setting.

Is there a simple cure for hard seating/suspension in 390adv? I am 70 KGs and mostly ride solo.

Tia,

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Got Ogio saddle bags for my 390 ADV.
~30L each side, when expanded.

Hoping they're enough, and I shall try to travel light as well.
Gadgets, laptop, camera and other equipment will be in my backpack.
So these saddle bags will only hold clothes and shoes.

Here's my luggage set up for about 45 days on the road. Questions?

The next will be rackless saddle bags.

Highly recommend you look at the BMW G310 GS. And also wait it out for the CB 500x from Honda. Summer is here and i reckon most big riding will cease for a few months.

How heavy is the bag at the tail end? Does it cause any noticeable issue with the weight bias while riding?

You doing a 45 day trip with 50L luggage gives me confidence that my luggage set should do just fine for 15-20 days.
Fingers crossed...

Haven't weighed it but no impact on my riding. I ride as hard offroad and corner on road with the bag and luggage. I think we make too much of these things.

Am told the swap with latest 390 Duke suspension is a direct fit and improves the ride quality to a noticeable extent.

I would have thought the 390 ADV with the longer travel suspension should be more comfortable than the Duke 390. How is it that the Duke 390 suspension fitted on the ADV could make the ride quality better on the ADV.

It would be great if someone could explain.

Thank you.

Cheers

No it doesn't, just some weird placebo.
