Skoda updates Rapid line-up

"Skoda has updated its line-up for the Rapid saloon.

The Rapid now comes in only two variants, Ambition Plus and Elegance.

The Skoda Rapid Ambition Plus comes with dual front airbags and ABS, an audio system with USB, aux, MP3, Bluetooth and SD card compatibility, steering-mounted audio controls and 14-inch steel wheels."

The top-end Skoda Rapid Elegance adds 15-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps and automatic climate control.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Just wanted to highlight an incident that happened with a friend of mine who also owns a Rapid. Without unlocking the car thru the remote key, he had used the key to open the boot and by mistake he placed the key inside and closed the boot. So the doors were locked, keys stuck in the boot. he had to travel back to his residence and pick up the second key. Now, this is purely an oversight from the car owner, but I wonder why the boot is not linked to the doors. I had a Dzire earlier and i think it had a better system in this regard. If you did not unlock the car thru the remote and tried to mechanically open the boot, it sends out an alarm. So you are forced to unlock the car thru the remote and then open the boot. This way if the key gets locked in the boot, you could still open the doors and retrieve the key.
It's not a big deal, but I just felt VW/Skoda could have done this like Maruti, whose ICATS security system is quite good.

And secondly, why dont Rapid / Vento / Polo have the provision to lock/unlock each door? When the car starts, the doors get locked, but if someone tries to open the lever it just opens, even while on the move. There is no lock mechanism at all. Understand that this is linked to safety since during an emergency doors can be opened from inside, but do all newer cars come with this kind of a fitment? Is this the best solution from a emergency point of view?

Mumbai Autocar performance show. What DRL's? I'm not sure if there are DRL's. And even if they are it will be normal halogen bulbs.

The projectors look cool, and also gel well with the headlamp assembly. Nice touch. Thanks for the pic!

I registered with the online Skoda website regarding onroad pricing of the Ambition Plus variant about 30 minutes back, and promptly received a call within 10 minutes of registration. The person who had called (it was a Mumbai number) was very polite, took all my details, and provided me approximate OTR prices of all variants.

Looking at the new specs sheet, even the Ambition Plus comes fully loaded now. The Rapid is now a more VFM deal than ever. God bless EcoSport and competition!

Did you have a chance to look at the interiors, Vidyut? Are the steering-mounted controls the Octavia type? Have they changed the OEM HU? I am very curious.

The 2013 rapids come with the octavia design steering wheel.

So the steering controls must be similar.

I hate the gear knob on mine looking to change to the one that comes in the 2013 ambition variants. Much smoother and doesn't chaff your hand on each gear shift.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Do the MY2014 Rapids come with the equipment covered under the '5x5 offer' (e.g. reverse sensors/camera, GPS, etc.)?

Also, any others offers like insurance/5 PMS, etc.?

No, the 5X5 offer is not valid on the MY2014 model. Just checked it out at a promotion stall in our company. No DRLs, No Reverse sensors/ camera. No offers, not even corporate discounts as of now. 12 Lacs on road price, Bangalore.

Its got a bluetooth/USB/SD card enabled music system which looks exactly like the one on Vento. Steering controls taken from the Octavia 2014. Projector headlamps look good. Even without the reverse sensors, its a good package.

Did they mention whether the 5 Add On Features are applicable on the Elegance as well? I was told that they (the features) are only applicable on the Ambition variant, and not the Elegance. This is not mentioned at the Škoda website, though.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

I heard that Skoda is offering 5 years service Holiday for the Rapid, this includes the service cost and the consumables as well ,I somehow feel this is too good to be true.
Did anyone else hear about the same and if anyone can confirm that this is true to an extent, Iam sure there should be a catch to it so I would request for some more details around the offer.

Are the new logos available off the shelf? Love the new logo, its quite classy and would surely replace the existing one if possible.
