Sorry to hear.
This definitely look like 2 panels change. If your car has Zero Dep insurance, suggest getting it done from showroom as it might work out cheaper. Quality of work will be better too.

Sorry to see this. I agree with sunikkat though. It may appear to be minor but you can never say with these expensive cars. I'd also strongly recommend Skoda Service and claim insurance. They will outright change the fender panel and also suggest the door. You can push back on the latter unless they & the surveyor are certain it cannot be effectively repaired.

Let us know how it goes. Best of luck

Why do you want to claim insurance! Since the truck is at fault, the owner of the truck is liable for payment. Just get a diary entry done at any police station (and I hope you got the details of the truck). The truck owner can claim his insurance to pay for the damages if he doesn't want to pay himself.

I do have the Skoda Drive Assure Elite package . I checked with Sudhir Gaikwad (recommended by BHPians in another thread). He has quoted Rs.5,500/- for denting and Rs.7,000/- for painting. If I go with Skoda, the repair cost will easily exceed Rs.1 Lakh considering they will recommend replacing the fender and the door.

The truck driver thankfully co-operated and accepted his fault with the Police. Unlike other drivers, he did profusely apologise and offered to pay some peanut amount. Looking at his condition, didn't really feel like stretching it at all.

For claiming insurance, is it necessary to file a police complaint (sorry never done this before so not sure).

I have claimed insurance only twice in my lifetime (touchwood) and in one instance where the damage was more the insurance (Royal Sundaram and car Fiesta) asked for FIR and I filed it. In other instance (Bajaj Allianz and car Octavia) they did not ask for FIR. The damage was more or less like yours. So in your case it will again be dependent on the insurer. But filing FIR is not a tedious job.
Did you get an estimate from Skoda? I don’t think the overall bill would be more than 1 lakh seeing the pictures. And your wallet damage will only be 1 to 2k and loss of non claim bonus.

The driver wouldn't be owning the truck, I guess. Anyway, whoever is the owner; doesn't have to pay from their pocket. His insurance will cover the damages. That's why third party insurance is mandatory so that damages to third party are covered. Since the matter is already reported to police, the truck owner just needs to claim his insurance and his insurance will cover the costs incurred.

A lot of people are not aware of this. Of course he'll lose out on his NCB, but yours stays intact.

And yes, for claiming insurance police diary entry is a must. FIR is required for serious damages like loss of life. Usually service centres have tie ups with insurance companies and they themselves take care of this. But police diary entry is a must for insurance.

Will the car's painted surface get swirl / rub marks while putting on and removing the covers?

Would suggest going to Skoda once as well. My car was rear ended on 2nd day of ownership and I was looking at full rear bumper panel replacement. Took the car to the service Center and they fixed it for less than 10k, where the colour and finish was as good as the original. I chose to pay from my pocket, wanting to keep 2 zero deps for the year and possibly the NCB.

Re: Skoda Superb : Official Review

I currently drive a Vento TDI since the last 9 years and was looking for an upgrade with a budget of 45L OTR.

My criteria was as follows :
1. Fun to drive and handle like the Vento
2. Looking for a ownership of 7-9 years
3. 70% of my use case is highway runs at 80 to 100kmph
4. Shouldn’t create motion sickness / boat feeling for passengers, my family is sensitive to this.

Have been searching since last 18 months, was able to narrow down to 3 cars - Compass, Octavia and Superb.

1. Compass – Liked the build quality, handling and features, but the slow gearbox and lack of space was a turn off.

2. Octavia – Liked the acceleration and drivability. Dislikes were the lesser features and nauseous feeling in the back seat, my family noticed this in two TD vehicles, maybe it was the suede leather smell.

3. Superb – Liked the acceleration, features, space and overall premium feel of the car. The confusion is about the vertical movement aspect of the Superb, which I have read on forums and reviews, wanted to know how bad it is. my family did not notice it during the two test drives – one in city and other on the Worli Bandra Sea Link.

Please shed some light on this vertical movement aspect of the Superb on how bad it is. We are unable to proceed due to this confusion.

Other car suggestions are welcomed too.

The vertical movement is there. No denying. But I can give you some tips: the superb is very sensitive to loading and tyre pressure. If you are a single person, keep the pressure at 30-32psi and there'll be minimal vertical movement. With full load or more than 3 people, 35-36 is the sweet spot. This should offer a great ride quality. Speaking from last 3 years of happy ownership.
There will be a marginal drop in fuel efficiency compared to recommended tyre pressure figures but you'll enjoy the ride for sure!

1 - Definitely Octavia, most fun to drive below 50 lakhs.
2 - All 3 of your choices would be good
3 - All 3 of your choices would be good
4 - None of the 3 have boat like feeling. Superb might be soft, but still don’t think your family will have motion sickness.

If you need fast and fun to drive car and okay with no sunroof, go for Octavia.
If you need more spacious and luxury feel, it’s Superb.
If you need go anywhere capability and diesel efficiency, Compass. But it is low on space and might feel slow mainly when you compare with Octavia.

Lastly, you will not go wrong with any of the choices.

Order of preference:
Superb
Compass
Octavia - although this is a fabulous car, on my test drives I did feel claustrophobic at the back. Maybe because of sloping roofline.
Other choice would be the Tiguan if you are not too concerned about a feature packed car.

Re: Skoda Superb : Official Review

Hey guys, need some advice. I got a pre-owned Superb MT in Feb this year. It is a completely clean car and had around 15K on the odo at that time. I have run another 5K, so the odo stands at around 20K now. The car would be completing it's 4th year in September and is under warranty till that time. I have an option of extending the warranty by another 2 years by paying Rs. 83K. Do you think it is worth it spending 83K for EW for a manual Superb with 20K on the odo? I plan to keep it for atleast next 6 years.
Need to make a decision in the next 10 days.
TIA.

I have not owned a Skoda but whatever I have gathered from this forum over the years, this is not even a valid question One must always have his/her Skoda under warranty and must always opt for extended warranty.
