I agree, the stock tyre size, quality, rim design and width, everything sucks!

I could improve the stance a bit in mine by upsizing to Michelins 195/65 on stock rims, but the rim design still sucks!

I am so tempted to get those alloys on 195/60R16 tyres. But will be suffering a tremendous loss on the barely used tyres and alloys. Hence avoiding it. I did try to get these alloys back in July but couldn't find any stock then due to lockdown. Hence had to settle with stock alloys.

This just transforms the car, i wish Maruti gave option to upgrade keeping warranty intact the cladding on the XL6 make the wheels look more anaemic than ertiga

Re: Maruti XL6 : Official Review

Not sure if anyone has faced this but i found out the antenna flutters quite a lot at high speeds to the extent that it starts banging on the roof, i had a minor scare yesterday during one of my solo runs and slowed down to speed within the beep limit until i figured out what exactly was happening will have to lay it flat on the roof floor in future to avoid this irritating aspect. P.S the car antenna was approximately at an 45 deg angle when i observed this.

A small update on the XL6

Maruti XL6 : Official Review-img_7744.jpg

The roof box has become a permanent fixture on the van here in Bombay.

Maruti XL6 : Official Review-img_7745.jpg

Comes quite handy when we have more passengers and their luggage. Makes for a great airport runner. Here's another view of it.

Maruti XL6 : Official Review-img_7746.jpg

Added a magnetic mobile holder to the dash. I noticed that constant charging of the phone while using Apple CarPlay heats up the phone a lot. Mounting the phone and directing cold air is working to keep it cooler.

Maruti XL6 : Official Review-img_7747.jpg

The XL6 does not come with backlit power window switches. Before AliExpress was banned I had placed an order for a two rubber mats for the front cup holders and these glow in the dark stickers.

Maruti XL6 : Official Review-img_7748.jpg

Works quite well and makes the switch visible in the dark. Not the best solution but works nonetheless.

I generally keep my phone in the front cup holders and open the cooling vent, that takes care of keeping the phone cool to some extent, that the most use i have found of the ventilated cup holders till now

I am not able to understand how this work. Did you just paste the stickers or how. I am interested in something like this.

Yes. I tried that. But I have a Air Purifier in the front right cup holder. So space is a crunch. Also if we have to control temperatures it blows hot air. ie. If the temp outside is 21 and you have set the temp inside at 25 then at times it blows hot air. That is not an ideal situation.

The stickers are pasted on the window switches. The quality of the stickers is quite thick and sturdy so its got a tactile feel to it as well. Its glow-in-the-dark material. They are self adhesive and the pack came with an alcohol sheet to clean the switch of any dust or debris before pasting.

This is an Indonesian brand called OTORACK, imported by a dealer in Nagpur. This was earlier white in colour and I got it wrapped to black as that attracts less attention on the road. The wrap didn't turn out well and I plan to paint it in gloss black soon.

You are right, the racks are BNB and they are real high quality at a fraction of the price that you'd acquire a THULE for.

I did not go through any RTO endorsement. This wasn't required for private vehicles as per my dealer in Jodhpur. I got stopped multiple times by traffic police of various states on my road trip from Mumbai to Goa to Bangalore and back last month, none even questioned the roof box.

Re: Maruti XL6 : Official Review

I am in the market for a petrol 3 row car in the 10-15l range and really, the XL6 seems to be the only choice. We went to the dealer and really liked the space, the way the car looked from the inside and how it drove (not expecting a performer but something that will take us from A to B in good comfort). Are there any other cars in this segment that I should look at?

If you and your folks liked it, then go for it.

The other option is the Hector Plus 1.5 Turbo Petrol 7STR MT — The Style Base Variant, that amounts to about 15 Lakh OTR. Other variants cost more.

You should consider a TD of this particular variant and car. Or else look in the preowned space for an Innova Crysta or Tata Hexa. There is more of a choice if you go the preowned route.

The Denso Iridium spark plugs that Leoshashi has posted about here are now available on Boodmo at a reduced price. Do check and order if interested.

1 - 4 : OK

5.) Make sure the insurance includes zero-dep package

6.) Not needed. Standard Warranty is enough for MSIL vehicles.

7.) Drop these. The XL6 Alpha comes with every required feature as standard from the factory. The only available accessories are overpriced exterior chrome bits which you can always source from aftermarket installers at a better price.

8.) Drop these. My NEXA program is a scam. It supposedly enables you to accrue points whenever you spend money on your vehicle (servicing etc.). You can then ostensibly redeem these points while purchasing overpriced accessories which you do not need.

9.) Get NHAI ones yourself if possible. Showrooms usually push Paytm ones. Your choice.

10.) Another scam. It's basically a GPS cum vehicle monitoring module which goes into the OBD port. It's installation requires removing half the dashboard. I wouldn't trust those dimwits to put the already fragile dashboard back together properly (actually depends on the dealership. I mistrust them as a rule). IMO, don't subject your brand new car to that torture. FWIW, the device does not work that well going by the comments from owners on our Whatsapp group. It's okay if the dealer adds it as a freebie but definitely not worth 10,000 rupees.

There, I saved you ₹40,000. Welcome to the club. Wise choice going for the automatic. It's the version to go for in the XL6.

1-4 is fine.

5. Do ask for list of vendors, and choose the cheapest. They offered me insurance from vendors starting from 66k to 80k(3+3). They often push the one with highest value.

6. Normal warranty is 2 year/40k km, Extended is 5 year/1 lac km. Highly recommended. Warranty on the Smart Hybrid system is standard 5 years for all cars.

I respectfully disagree. Look at the number of issues and warranty claims cars like S Cross, Baleno, Dzire etc had. Steering, suspension etc all have been replaced and they are expensive(steering column costs ~50k). I am already staring at my first warranty claim of dicky struts which seem to have gone weak within 8 months of use. 5 year is a long time and I expect something or the other to fail, at least on the suspension side by then. Cars today are complex and one should always take maximum possible warranty.

7. Avoid: Choose your own accessories.

8. Strictly avoid: It's a waste of money. Many times points don't get credited. When it comes to redeeming accumulated points, their servers don't work.

9. You can get FASTag cheaper outside.

10. Suzuki connect: Avoid. Very basic form of car connectivity with elementary features like geofencing etc. That too being network dependent doesn't work everytime. Also you need to pay subscription charges after some time. They will also open your dashboard a bit to install the system.

Regards,
Shashi
