Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

If it's driving pleasure you are after then it's Octavia for sure and Tucson Diesel as second option.

If it's overall features you are after then any Tucson Petrol or Diesel will do.

However if you want features plus petrol plus little bit of driving pleasure then turbo petrol SUV like XUV700 need to be considered.

Considering you have Skoda as a option then that means you can take bit of risk in terms of service or peace of ownership etc. In this case XUV700 can be considered.

If you want driving pleasure plus features plus peace of ownership then only option is Tucson Diesel.

Hence in conclusion every choice has a compromise. I went for Tucson Diesel top end in June and am very happy.

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

I haven’t driven the Tucson but I know for a fact that Hyundais petrol autos are sluggish. The diesels are better for driving enthusiasts, but even those can’t beat the sheer brilliance of the VW / Škoda turbos.

Having said that the overall package seems way superior on the Tucson. And add the hassle free ownership and superb after sales support of t most Hyundai dealerships, and voila - Tucson takes the cake. My take - Tucson Diesel AT.

But back to some objective analysis -

1. I have driven the Octavia (loved it). Not yet driven the Tucson (I have requested it, but no luck so far). In anycase, i am only considering the petrol and given its an inferior engine, don't expect a better experience. But i agree, need to TD before i decide.
2. I prefer to drive. Will be an even mix of behind the wheel and backseat. The Tucson cabin was very nice, specially with the panoramic sunroof.
3. Not planning to change for 6-7 years atleast (have opted for the extended warranty). So, your inputs here are very helpful as resale was one of the points i was a bit concerned about.
4. Noted on spare parts. Hopefully common parts with other continuing skoda cars will help, but i agree on the wait time for non standard ones.

Overall, i am waiting on my Tucson test drive (hopefully this week) to be able to take a final call. No need for a re-run of the Octavia, i had done 3 TDs before booking it

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Test-drove Hyundai Tucson Petrol variant, it's slow, sluggish, and takes forever to pick up. The engine screams at 3k+ rpm and can be heard inside the cabin as well. A big letdown for a 38L-worth car. But it has all the bells and whistles one can imagine (barring a few) at the cost.

coming from the Octavia owner.

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Hi
Whenever I park my car or take it out, there is a sharp reverse maneuver to be done.
The car is almost stationary and you turn the wheels fully to the right or left.

And when I turn the wheels in reverse drive mode, there is a jarring noise.
I checked it briefly with the Service personnel and he said this is normal.

I haven't faced this issue with my previous cars, so wondering if this is Ok. Thanks for your inputs.

I suspect creep function to be causing this, though it should have been heard regardless of driving direction. I may have experienced something similar on inclines in my car, but I dont remember exact series of events.

Did you also notice this with auto-hold enabled?

The culprit can be a linkage, any decent service center or workshop with a ramp can check this easily.

Hello there
I have faced a similar situation with my 2022 Octavia when taking it out of a parking spot and turning sharply left or right, the sudden jarring sound seems to come from the rear wheels, but isn’t accompanied with any vibration or jerk. Seems pretty normal with all the new electrical systems that are responsible for gear changes and parking brake, could be some new mechanism.
With these new electricals there are a lot of jarring and beeping sounds, all normal, that come from gearbox engine etc that I’ve got used to over time.
However anyone know what exactly could be the reason for this specific sound ?

Hi folks, wanted to get your suggestions. What are your views on pressure wash on the underbody. Typically it gets dirty because of mud and rain and mud, so was thinking of getting it pressure washed but I am concerned about any negative effects.

Do you guys suggest it or advise against it?

Thanks Sidh,
My car is also just 2 weeks old, and a very similar issue like what you have described.
The Service centre also mentioned the same that it is normal in an Automatic. (Haven't seen this in old AT's though )
But I was concerned since as you said, the noise comes from the back, and is very pronounced, so wanted to know if it is something to be checked.

However it seems to be normal from what you say.
So, will bear the noise

On the underbody protection plates it should be okay. But I wouldn’t do high pressure wash directly to the other parts in the underbody. Engine bay is a strict No.

Thanks Rahul

The noise exists with or without Auto hold. Thanks.

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Hi All,

This is my first post and super excited to be part of this great community of passionate car enthusiasts and evangelists Looking forward to a memorable journey.

I recently bought Octavia L&K and hoping my experience with the car will be great. Let me know any tips/best practices which I should adhere to.

Can I opt for normal petrol or should I go for 95 Octane petrol?

I'm wondering if using 95 Octane petrol will make the engine used to a refined fuel hence no option of using normal petrol where 95 Octane may not be available.

Congrats! its petrol after all and its not like a vintage whiskey matured in an oak barrel for decades and the regular fuel is not downright hooch! The only tip is DON’T WORRY. Škoda recommends minimum 95 RON petrol, with max 10% ethanol mix. You should fill up with XP95 when available. But don’t be afraid to top up in emergency with regular petrol at a reputed pump of good quality. The higher the octane number, better your car will perform, in terms of performance as well as fuel efficiency. I’m yet to try this out. I’ll probably treat myself on my birthday with a tank of power99 or xp100, till then I’m sticking to xp95.

Faced this exact issue couple of times especially during driving in the night.
Yes, although we can get rid by using wipers and increasing the temperature, but it's a bit strange to see this in a Premium car like Octavia.

Recommended is 95 octane with 91 minimum. Manual states 91 octane can be used in emergency with slight drop in power and increased fuel consumption. Engine has been designed for 95 octane. Going more than 95 octane, although not a problem, is not going to increase power or mileage. So why spend extra when there is not going to be any additional benefit!
