I personally always put my octy into N, since the previous gen didn’t have the most reliable gearbox.
I follow the same practice. If I have to wait for more than 5 secs, I engage N. Last gen GB (DQ200) was a dry clutch so extra care was required, this being new GB, I am not sure if this is required but I still engage 'N'.

Putting the gear lever into N is not needed. Modern gearboxes are designed keeping real life scenarios in mind and they automatically engage the car into neutral when you keep the brake pedal pressed for a few seconds. You can actually see the revs rise when the car engages itself in 1st gear when you remove your foot off the brake pedal.

My thoughts on the other thread regarding the news of discontinuation of models.

Came across this interview with Zac about a week and a half ago. He was specifically asked about sedans and he said that the company would focus on both the sedans and the SUVs for 2023 in india. If the news of Octavia and Superb production and sales ending in Feb 23 is true, hard to imagine how he has not eluded to the same here and in fact spoken to the contrary.

Thanks for sharing - I can't think of an alternative either + somehow I want it more on the thought that this is the last chance I have to buy a new one

All the best for your delivery next week, and hope to see a post about your experience soon.

Ford was denying the rumors of their exit. We all know how it ended

Well that's it then.
I was thinking of following up on my previous correspondence with him on this but his response to yours is confirmation enough for me. Normally they'd staunchly outright deny rumours of cancellation of a car if there wasn't one.

The way I see it, there are only two concerns with an out of production car, Resale value and Spare parts availability. The spare parts availability will be a non-issue as people have widely, and correctly imo, stated in the other thread.
If you are not in the camp of <3 years resale group, sir you will be most happy with your ownership.

A query, were you able to get any discounts on your Octavia?.. When did you book it and which variant?

Thank you.

Maky, In BLR the are offering 35k Amex or corporate discount. 37.54 is the OTR quoted for BLR L&K. But the way the conversation went, if you sit down with an intention to book there is room for negotiation.

Any idea if the Octavia infotainment system can display Android Auto - Maps in full screen? As of now, the maps and music player take a 60-40 split on the screen.

If you hold an American express card, you get 40K discount.
Here is the link to the same.

https://www.americanexpress.com/en-i...her/skoda.html

Else you can avail of 35K corporate discount.
No other discounts available.

The cost for both cars is in the same ball park - it basically comes down to features and general driving / ownership experience.

Grateful for any inputs.
Hello Dadoo! Since you have posted in Octavia thread, you will get affirmations for Octavia. If you post in Tucson thread, you will get affirmations for Tucson.

Lets be objective / solution-oriented here:

1. Have you driven both the cars?
2. Is your preference the back seat or the driver seat? The Tucson is much more spacious at the back, whereas the petrol Octavia is a driving oriented car.
3. If you are planning to change your car after 3-5 years, the resale value of Tucson will be much higher since any discontinued car loses its value. If you are planning to keep the car for 8-10 years then the resale value wont differ much.
4. Not to forget, spare parts of a discontinued car will always take more time and efforts to procure as compared with a vehicle existing in production.

My advice: take long test drives of both cars, both from the driver seat and the back seat.

Hello - thank you for your guidance. Fully agree, i think I subconsciously chose the Octavia chain because I am more inclined towards it

But back to some objective analysis -

1. I have driven the Octavia (loved it). Not yet driven the Tucson (I have requested it, but no luck so far). In anycase, i am only considering the petrol and given its an inferior engine, don't expect a better experience. But i agree, need to TD before i decide.
2. I prefer to drive. Will be an even mix of behind the wheel and backseat. The Tucson cabin was very nice, specially with the panoramic sunroof.
3. Not planning to change for 6-7 years atleast (have opted for the extended warranty). So, your inputs here are very helpful as resale was one of the points i was a bit concerned about.
4. Noted on spare parts. Hopefully common parts with other continuing skoda cars will help, but i agree on the wait time for non standard ones.

Overall, i am waiting on my Tucson test drive (hopefully this week) to be able to take a final call. No need for a re-run of the Octavia, i had done 3 TDs before booking it

Without a doubt the Tucson. They have provided the octavia without ADAS. Big feature left out.

The diesel, the ADAS alone make the tucson a far better drive.
