Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

The panel gap is not that improved from our 2009 Punto, but the cut seems to be a lot less sharp and has been ground a bit.

The gap around the horn pad, I think is an intended one though.

@devil_klm
Are these pics from a car that was about to be delivered??

Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

As long as Tata makes these cars, these crude edges will remain. The gap around the ignition varies from car to car and there is no consistency whatsoever, although it is now much better than the initial 2009 batch of Punto's.
The horn pad gap is not a finishing issue. It's there on all Punto's, the european ones included.

Yes are finishing issues with Fiat products in India but I don't really think TATA is making them, they can't even make a proper Indica.

@fiat_tarun

Actually, it is the other way round. Tata does not make any FIATs, rathers it is the FIAT guys who spend a lot of time building Manzas and Probably even some Indica Vistas.

Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

^^ What is that FIAT doing with TATA cars.
AFAIK they are only providing engines.
Are you saying FIAT is involved in the R&D section of TATA

I know, the Ranjangaon factory is a Fiat factory, but the whole company is 50% Tata owned. They share suppliers, etc and i'm not too sure whose manufacturing policies / QA systems are used. Fiat's world wide are quite well put together (although not in the league of the Germans), so why is this happening in India ??

I think he was referring to the Manza's built at the Tata Fiat Rangangaon plant.

Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

FIAT's Ranjangoan plant is fullyrun by FIAT only, and their policisare in use.

I dont think FIAT's are any worse put together than any of the European cars built in India. It is only a few parts whose quality is in question on FIAT car in my opinion, mostly the plastic quality. Other than that I dont think you will call FIATs as badly put together.

True FIAT India is owned partly by Tata Motors, but this does not effect how FIAT makes their cars.

Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

The people who are responsible for the poor fit/finish (which IMO is not that bad, especially if you are in the driving seat ) are the FIAT guys and nobody else.
Even if the car is hand-built by Ratan Tata himself.

Yes there is a shortage of Exotica Red Punto, cause I am still waiting for mine to be delivered, which I booked almost a month back. The reason given is Exotica Red is not a popular color and they struggle to sell it.

^^ I do not buy this. Its the most popular color on a Punto after White. There must be a different reason.

Very true buddy! I also booked a Red one but then it would take more than 45 days from the day I booked, so I went with T.Wine color. Now the car will be delivered on Monday (hopefully) .

Has everyone who has booked the red colour gone in for the 90 HP MJD version? Because red does not seem to be popular in that particular variant. Else, it is one of the most popular colours for the Punto alongside white. If not, then maybe they have a shortage of paint supply or something for that colour.

Mine is 90HP but I saw the other GPs two in their current shipment are also not Red (both non 90HP) and checked with other dealer in Gurgaon. Even I spoke to a production guy in Pune who said that there in no 90HP E.Red planned for next 15-20 Days
But at the same time, I like the metallic shade and paint quality of T.Wine.
