How is the rest of road from Virajpet to Kannur? Are there good pit stops (or any at all) in between Virajpet and Kannur since I am travelling with family?
Yes that is the route. And is in very good condition. A lot has changed since the last 2 years. you will find decent pit stop only at Iritty. Or have a break at Cafe county, Hunsur, and then head straight to Kannur.

Re: Bangalore - Kannur : Route Queries

I doubt Café county @ Gonikoppal is still open. In my last couple of trips, it was closed. You can stop at Cuisine Pappera instead. Its like a small museum inside..!! There are decent hotel available near to Iritty too (At Vallithode) and options are available at Iritty. Iritty to Kannur is hardly 1hr drive.

A new Hotel- Pranav International- has come up on Kutta road, just off the Gonikoppal main road. Looks decent from outside. Perhaps somebody can check it out and give feedback here. Also saw another new one in Panchavalli. Do not remember the name though.

New restaurant name is "White Palace"

Did Kannur-Bangalore solo drive yesterday. Started @ 10.30 AM and reached Ecity @ 6PM. Road work is going on at multiple places between Mattanur and Iritty and one lane is blocked due to this. Warning signs are there but be careful if you are driving after dark.

Re: Bangalore - Kannur : Route Queries

Yep, new place is called White Palace. Took the KRS road bypass this last weekend. The last Yeliwal stretch is complete and open. There is a 1.5 km patch that is rough surface as you approach Yeliwal. If the roads near Srirangapatna gets resurfaced, this would be a nice alternative to the ORR, provided they don't add tons of speed breakers to what is already an annoying part of the journey.

Re: Bangalore - Kannur : Route Queries

Hi everyone

Wanted to check if there is any alternate route to Kannur from Bangalore.

I stay near Doddaballapura and Google Maps showing a route via Nelamangala Road and then into Bangalore-Shimoga road and then Bangalore-Mangalore highway touching Holenarasipur and then joining Hunsur.

Have anyone taken this route? Grateful if anyone has any inputs.

Also, does the Nagarhole National Park allows night traffic or will it close at 6 pm? Many thanks.

The route from Bangalore is:
BLR > Nelamangala > Kunigal > Chennarayapatna > Holenarasipura > Hunsur > then the usual Gonikkoppal > Virajpet route

Very nice route. There are some villages in between that could slow you down.

You can take this route -> https://goo.gl/maps/ZZ4NAFiWqbQ2 I have taken this multiple times and road condition is very good. Please remember that there is no eateries enroute till reaches Hunsur once you left CR Patna.
There is no travel restriction in the Husnur - Gonikoppal route which touches Nagarhole National Park

How bad is this stretch? Presume you are talking about the first few KMs after we take the diversion from NH 275.

That is good to hear. Have been taking ORR since a couple of years now, may be time to revert back to the KRS road which would save around 7 kms and avoid 2-3 signals.

Yes, also sometimes after a long boring and tiresome drive on Bangalore - Mysore highway, it is refreshing to drive through those village roads and hit the Hunsur Highway with some fresh energy!
