Thanks! Would it be safe to take this route around 4 AM?, ideally reaching and passing mysore around 6:30-7 AM on Saturday?

Can't predict; Since this is a sensitive issue, it will depend on how things turn out tomorrow and day after! Better to wait and watch.

Considering I would be travelling early morning and would want to pass Mysore around 6 A.M. is this feasible? or is would it better to travel via the Bangalore - Mangalore highway?
There will not be any issues or protests at that time of the day. Yesterday I traveled through Mandya on my way back to Bangalore at around the same time. It all looked normal. Also, the overnight buses between Kannur and Bangalore are operating without any issues. So you should be okay if you travel during those hours.

Be careful and wait to see how the situation develops. This route will also take you through Mandya and Mysore districts, where most of the unrests are expected.
I hope if there is no further provocation during Friday shutdown, things will calm down.
And hope you have a KA plate and not KL...if its KL be extra cautious.

Re: Bangalore - Kannur : Route Queries

Passed through Mandya, Srirangapatna-Elivala bypassing Mysuru city around 7AM today. Route clear throughout. Saw 2 TN registered cars in the centre of Mandya town, folks having tea , so safe enough.

Burnt tyres and logs-from the previous days have been pushed to the road sides.

Re: Bangalore - Kannur : Route Queries

Hi guys, sorry for the late update. I had returned on the 13th. Left at 11 A.M. and arrived in Bangalore around 7:15 P.M. with breaks at Hunsur and Channarayapatna. Didn't want to take a chance and hence travelled up to Hunsur and took the deviation via NH7 to reach Yeshwantpur and then Indiranagar. Was pretty calm throughout and happy we were able to travel through without any incident.

Saw an update regarding this in another forum - Last few kms as you approach Yelawala is very bad with work going on in full swing. The rest of the work is done. Better to take the ORR till that stretch is done.

Avoid Yelawala route, as the road is blocked at the last stretch of it. You may have to find an alternate route once you reach there (which is a left turn one km ahead to that block), which may not be worth it.

This is the update from last weekend but still go through ORR for now until someone confirms the road is open.

Re: Bangalore - Kannur : Route Queries

Road is closed for a small stretch, but you can still take this, with small deviation..no need of going via ORR. Here is the map -> https://goo.gl/maps/Xhssw2M9Dry
While coming from Hunsur, after Elivala towards Mysore take the left adjacent to the first petrol pump on the left side and follow the map..

Re: Bangalore - Kannur : Route Queries

Team, how is the road between Hunsur & Kannur? Google Maps suggests the following route:
Hunsur-> Gonikoppa -> Bittangala -> Iritty -> Mattanur -> Kannur

The last time I went via Gonikoppa was en route to Virajpet, a couple of years ago and the stretch between Gonikoppa to Virajpet was horrible. Is it still the case?

How is the rest of road from Virajpet to Kannur? Are there good pit stops (or any at all) in between Virajpet and Kannur since I am travelling with family?

Yes, that is the best route. I did Bangalore - Kannur last week and rod condition is very good. Started from Ecity @ 5.15 AM and reached Kannur @ 12.45 PM (Includes 30 min break).
