Another Alternative

Does anybody have info regarding the road from Gonikoppal to Kutta ?
Is this road open 24hrs ?
What is the road condition ?

I know there is regular bus service from gonikoppal to kutta in day time.
If this road is good and open 24hrs, then this would be the best alternative route (as we all know the rest of the road is in very good condition from BLR~Gonikoppal and Tolpatty~Manandavady~Kannur)

If someone from that area or who has travelled in that stretch recently can shed light .
Else I may have to do a check myself on the 15/16th of May.

Will be taking the S-Bathery route if doing a night drive(can leave bangalore only after 7pm). Else the route mentioned above.

BTW Sarin, Where in Telecherry ? If towards Mahe side, I have another route suggestion.

Since nobody has replied,

Let me post the info myself.

Got the info from a friend of mine from coorg.
1. The Road is open 24 Hrs (this is not a restricted road, as it does not enter the National Park)
2. The road condition is fair (may find potholes)
3. Diatance 32 Kms (gonikoppa to kutta)

Will take this route on 15/16th of May and update on the road condition.

Bangalore ~ Gonikoppa - 200 Kms
Gonikoppa ~ Kutta - 32 Kms (If found good, then this would be the best alternative (24 Hrs, else Hunsur~Nagarhole~Kutta))
Kutta ~ Manantahvady 18 Kms
Mananthavady ~ Kannur 95 Kms
Total of 345 Kms insted of 425 Kms via S Bathery.

Sarin,

If you are leaving Bangalore By 1230 hrs, Hunsur~Nagarhole~Kutta~Manantahvady would be your best route. (Provided you reach Park entrance before 1730 Hrs)

The total Distance will be approx 360 Kms.

Sorry guys for the late update. Did go to Kannur last week but got caught up in some work and could'nt visit this thread.

There was a small change of plan at the last moment since we also had to make a visit to Kozhikode to meet up with some relatives. So, left on 1st May bound to Kozhikode instead of Kannur. Route taken was the usual Mysore-Gundlupet-Sultan Bathery-Kalpetta-Vythiri-Thamarassery-Koduvalli-Chevayur-Kozhikode. Roads on this route as usual are good as most of you guys will know anyways. Post lunch, reached Kannur via Quilandi-Vadakkara-Thalassery and needless to say, this road is excellent.

Returned to Bangalore on 3rd May via Thalassery-Nadapuram Road-Nadapuram-Kuttipuram-Kuttiyadi-Munnamkal-Koroth-Mananthavady-Kartikulam-Tholpetty-Kutta-Nagara Hole-Hunsur-Srirangapatna-Mandya-Bangalore. Some folks actually advised us to get to Mananthavadi by taking a left at Thalassery and going through Kuttuparamba & Kannavan but we missed the turning.

Roads upto Kartikulam were quite good except for a few bad stretches where there were some potholes. Kartikulam onwards upto Kutta, roads are quite narrow but are decent. Kutta to Nagara Hole was full of potholes and the going there was quite slow, some road work was going on but I guess they are only patching up the road and filling the potholes. Nagar Hole to Hunsur roads again were quite good and looked as if they had been laid quite recently.

Total distance covered was 864kms but that also included some in town running both in Kannur as well as in Kozhikode. The Omni made the trip without any hassles at all.

I am ok for any place. I live near Meenakshi temple and I am not sure abou others. If you have any suggestion we can meet that place around 7:30PM on Saturday night. There is an open restaurant near Meenakshi temple called Guru Palace (Sorry this is too close to where i live :-)). Other option is the Barbeque Nation at JP Nagar 3rd phase. Here we need to book in advance and need the number of people going to be there. If you guys don't have any other suggestion we can meet either at Guru Palace or Barbeque Nation on Saturday night. Just do this meet somewhere nearer to the place where all live. Once we know each other next meet we can plan some other places.

Cheers,
Sarin
