325 odd kms.I am not sure of the present road conditions though.
A friend took this route couple days ago mainly due to the Bridge closure near Shivanasamudra. He said that Chamrajnagar-Nanjangud is bad, more so in low GC cars, he was driving an Alto

Re: Coorg recommendations

Guys, I am planning a road trip from Canacona, South Goa to Coorg. Needed some advice on what route to take as I am from Punjab and dont know the routes here well. I wanted to know if the whole journey can be done in one day with a 3 year old infant or its better if we split it in two days. What would be the best place to stop at and visit in case we want to break our journey. I would also like some information about good places to stay and visit while we are there. We have about 3/4 days for the excursion.

Cancaona-Karwar-Honnavar-Udupi-Bantwal-Puttur-Sampaje-Madikeri.

Thats the shortest option. But roads are twisty and expect traffic.

Thanks for the reply. This is the route we are thinking of taking and stopping for a night in Kollur. Is this a good idea? Any recommendations for a nights stay in Kollur?

Mookambika Palace opened last year, seemed like a good place, owned by Vasudev Adiga group.
There are also good opinions about Abimon Residency. Do check the Kollur Mookambika thread for more information - Here.

We ( 2 adults & 1 kid) are planning to visit Coorg in the month of April-May.

Few queries-

1) Hows the climate during this period?

2) Which part of Madikeri/ Coorg is safer to live for family?

3) Can someone mention top 3 places to stay? Budget is not much a constraint.

4) I read mixed reviews of Taj Vivanta. Does anybody have a first hand experience?

5) What is the best way to travel from Banglore to Madikeri? Bus wont be convenient with a 6 year old kid, so prefer a cab, may be Hertz or something.

You can also think of staying in Murdeshwar.

http://naveenhotels.com/RNS_residenc..._residency.php.

But then it would be quite a short drive till Murdeshwar.

You can think of Udupi as well. Thats a good stop over point.

Self Drive, then look no further than Zoomcar.Easy, hasslefree and excellent service.

Hotels in the Coorg region are extremely overpriced imo and dont really deserve the money they charge.Tamara is very good but then they have a No Child policy which says below 12yrs not allowed.Taj is good but at 15-18k a night its atrocious and so are all the other places which all price themselves at 10k a night.Windflower is also good.

Great exploration there. Moving the discussion here.

My key-takeaway:

- Something which I always thought was super and now you validated it is the Pandavpura-KR Pete- CR Patna road.
- Its the same road which goes the Mysore-BLR line at Pandavapura.

- This can be one of the best cross roads to cut through North-KA for one to head to south KA.

Eg- Shimoga-Arsikere-CR Patna-KR Pete-Srirangapatna-Bannur-T Narasipura-Muguru-Chamarajanagar.

Fantastic roads all the way!

Yes, this can be used to connect Northern parts of Karnataka with Southern parts.

How is SH-84 between Sira - Nittur - Nelligere or SH-19 between Hiriyur - Nelligere? For those who are coming in GQ, SH-19 through Nagamangala will be an option to reach Srirangapatna from GQ. I see many North India registered trucks taking this route. SH-19 part of Nelligere - Nagamangala - Pandavapura is in superb condition. I liked SH-19 more than SH-7 due to less traffic and speed breakers.

Hiriyur-Huliyar-Neligere is brilliant. Yes the problem of humps does exit. Most Bombay/Pune guys use this option to hit Mysore all the time.

Here the link where its discussed.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...option-10.html

Dont know about the Nittur-Sira road though. Every one uses the Huliyar road.

Re: Coorg recommendations

Just back from the Coorg trip, too the following route on both the ways:
Bangalore (Banaswadi)-Channarayapatna-Holenarsipur-Arkalgud-Konanur-KushalNagar-Siddapur-Ammatthi. Road is in great condition except for about 3kms just before Holenarsipur and few broken patches around Arkalgud. Just 10% of the traffic of Mysore road, hence peaceful drive. One way 300kms exactly, 6hrs drive one-way including breaks.

4 Friends in i10 Grand, went to attend a wedding and were back on the same day evening.

If you are looking for places to stay, 8Kms from Ammatthi is CoffeeTrails Homestay, I had stayed there in Dec'13, lovely place with great hosts and good food.
