then till Pooppara - occassional potholes. be careful just after the 5th Km from Bodimettu - There is a huge crater created by a small stream of water crossing the road.

Pooppara to Munnar - Good. occassional potholes.

Should not be an issue for Punto. Keep watching closely after the 5th Km from Bodimettu checkpost. (Not sure whether they have done something to fix it in the past two weeks). You have to reduce speed to minimum as this is full stretch - across the road.

I too am planning for a Bangalore - Munnar trip this weekend. Have some food questions.
Planning to leave early and probably have an early breakfast (6.30/7.00 am) @ A2B near Krishnagiri.
Where can I have lunch on the way? Any known good places to eat near Dharapuram/Udumalaipettai?

No good restaurants/hotels on the way at Dharapuram/Udumalpettai. I would suggest, start early and break at Thoppur A2B rather than Krishnagiri.

And better to pack. At best you may get biryani/curd rice at local hotels.

There's a decent hotel at Kangeyam near the bus stand (sorry forgot the name), but if you leave Krishnagiri at 7 AM, you'd be there by 10:30 or so - too early for lunch. Don't remember seeing any good hotel in Dharapuram or Udumalpet.

The better option may be to leave early (say by 4 AM) from Bangalore, and have breakfast at either Salem or Perundurai and reach Munnar by lunch time. (The Bangalore-Munnar drive shouldn't be more than 10 hours including a breakfast halt even with easy paced driving).

Again as I have been harping A2B at Thoppur is on the other side of the highway. You have to take a U and come back.

There is a decent hotel in Dharapuram by-pass opposite to the bus stand. It is enroute and you would'nt miss it. No A/C but the hotel is basic and neat and you'll get decent meals. Dont remember the name though, sorry! but it'll be hard to miss.

At Udumalpet, if you are a Non veg, you can try Sun Hotels which is on the Munnar road just before the new flyover. If you are a veg, then you can try Gandhirams which is opposite to bus stand. I've tried Sun personally for lunch, but just had coffee at Gandhirams once, so not sure about their food quality.

And at Marayoor which is midway up the hill, you'll spot a Kerala restaurant to your right just when you enter the town. Food is typically Keralite.
