re: Bangalore to Munnar : Route Queries

Hotel Gayathri High Class Veg and Non Veg (nothing fancy but delicious meals) at Kangeyam (near the bus stand) is a good option for lunch if you happen to pass Kangeyam around noon. Also similar standard hotel available in Dharapuram and Udumalpet Town.

Hotel Annapoorna Veg near Misha Holiday Home. Also had dinner couple of times at Hotel Hillview (Slightly expensive)

re: Bangalore to Munnar : Route Queries

Bangalore - Salem - Dindigul - Theni - Poppara - Munnar is the fastest route right now.

Till Dindigul - you have NH7 and then its two lane road.

Going via Udumalaipet - Marayoor will take more time due to longer ghat section and two lane roads right after Perundurai.

Whereas, while coming back you should take Marayoor - Perundurai route. (Since you will be driving down the hill).

Place to stay : "Ayur county Resort" - Value for money 2 day package and excellent location / views.

(If you take the bangalore - Theni - Munnar route as I suggested, this resort is 12 kms after Poppara)

RamP!
It was pretty warm at times. (Not a typical hill-station weather we experienced in Kodai) However, it rains every afternoon for sometime. On our last day of stay it rained heavily for almost 2 hours. I'm told this is normal in summer.

Bangalore - Munnar Route - Need help !

Respected Team-BHPians,
I'm planning a road trip later this month from Bangalore to Munnar.

From what I have read here on Team-BHP posts, I think the route options are:
1. Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Bhavani - Perundurai - Tirupur - Palladam - Udumalaippettai - Chinnar - Maraiyoor - Munnar

2. Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Bhavani - Kangayam - Dharapuram - Udumalaippettai - Maraiyoor - Munnar

3. Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Salem - Namakkal - Karur - Dindigul - Theni - Bodinaykanur - Munnar

Route # 3 is mostly on NH 7 and from my trip to Kodaikanal in 2009 I know the NH 7 route upto Dindigul is awesome but would like to get your opinions/advice about all the options above or any other better route.

Best Regards
Npv

Re: Bangalore - Munnar Route - Need help !

Route 3 is a good fast route to take to Munnar.
Others are also good, it is now your personal choice. Nothing much to choose from, each has its charm and advantages.

Do 2 while going and 3 while coming

I did 2 & 2 for my last trip (Nov last year).

Re: Bangalore - Munnar Route - Need help !

You can also come/ go through Kerala to have a swim in Arabian sea, and/or a one day 'Kettuvallom' (Large Canoe) back-water luxury trip enjoying Kerala special delicacies, veg or non.
Also if end of this month mostly you can experience monsoon showers in Kerala.

Then from Salem Coimbatore- Palghat- Trichur- Kochi-Kumarakom(Alleppey). At Kumarakom the Kettuvallam rendezvous. Come back to Kochi to Munnar.
If you can add one or two days it is an advantage; chances you will say Kumarakom experiance is better than Munnar.

re: Bangalore to Munnar : Route Queries

Thanks kumar sir, thalavoy and sunney.

I was planning to leave Blr on 20 May but accomodation is an issue with most hotels full that weekend. Also heard about a hartal on may 20 to protest fuel price hike so am looking at alternate options (to avoid Kerala).

re: Bangalore to Munnar : Route Queries

I would suggest, take the faster route while going (via NH7) and use the Marayoor-Udumalpet while coming back.

re: Bangalore to Munnar : Route Queries

Seems like another change of plan on the cards...
1. Friday May 20 Bangalore - Palakkad - Visit friends there
2. Saturday May 21 Palakkad - Munnar

Due to non-availability of rooms in most hotels/resorts, choice is only between Clouds Valley and Royal Retreat. Please let me know which one is better.

May 20 is indeed a hartal,so avoid all travel into kerala as Petrol pumps would be closed as well.

I will also be in Munnar on 21st and 22nd (Sat and Sun). Let us see if we can catch up. Mine is Exotica Red Punto.

For Coimbatore-Munnar, you route should be Coimbatore-Pollachi-Udumalpet-Munnar. I will also be taking the same route on Saturday morning. I would be doing Karur-Dharapuram-Udumalpet-Munnar.
