Broadchurch is way too good, 100% agree with you. And Olivia Coleman (of The Crown /Queen fame) as the other detective in that series has also acted superbly.

By the way, there's another Tennant-starrer super crime series: Shetland. Please do watch that as well, if not already.

Nope. I haven't seen Shetland yet as it's not available on any of the OTT platforms in the US.

I will certainly see it if it becomes available on the OTT's that I am subscribed too.

Inspector Avinash on Jio
Watched 4 episodes, 4 to go
This is a true story based on an encounter specialist in UP police.
While Randeep Hooda in a lead role is good as always, series is filled with Bollywood like drama, somehow reminded me of Mr Chulbul Pandey, Dabangg fame. It is entertaining to watch. I feel in an attempt to make it entertaining, seriousness of the plot is lost. He makes the inspector to appear over confident, ignorant and sometimes arrogant.
It was irritating to see 4-5 ads breaks in every episode.

Rating 3.5/5

As of now the HBO content on Jio seems to be limited. Only a couple of dozen titles are displayed on their pages. I suppose they will add more as we go along, especially after IPL gets over.

Can anyone say if their PQ is at least as good as Hotstar for HBO content? I am looking at subscribing next week.

The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)-jpg_ux1000_.jpg

Pretty ordinary series with ordinary acting and storyline. It's definitely watchable but felt the episodes were a bit long (1 hour each).

Rating - 3/5 (Amazon Prime)

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Wrapped up Dahaad.

If you leave aside Sonakshi’s occasional overacting, this is a good police crime procedural based on a serial killer. Just 8 episodes and it also deals various other themes such as casteism, gender discrimination, the pressure of getting women married, the dowry system, extramarital affairs etc.

If you liked Pataal Lok and Delhi Crime, you’ll like this. But Pataal Lok was dark and intense, this isn’t. No gore, no nudity but a few blurred love making sequences (for those who watch on the move). It’s on Prime Video.

Dahaad Amazon Prime

Outstanding series which is based on a true story of a serial killer named Cyanide Mohan. Of course the location has been changed to Rajasthan and that to me is the standout part. The way many societal aspects have been touched upon and discussed in the series is wonderful. Casteism, the focus on girls for early marriages, generalising criminals with a particular community, so on and so forth.

The actors have put their best foot forward and Gulshan Deviah and Sohum Shah were brilliant. Sonakshi Sinha and Vijay Verma were apt as well. Dialogues were written really well. For me, Must watch series despite some flaws. Could have been one or two episodes shorter though.

Rating: 4/5

Garmi SonyLiv

This series is an extension of a movie named HAASIL by the same director Tigmanshu Dhulia. Those who have seen the movie will immediately identify with the series. Apart from some familiar faces, starcast is new and has done reasonably well. College politics has been shown well along with the manipulation of young minds. First season is watchable but it’s the second season which should be promising.

Season 4 is wild! Absolutely love it. It's a challenge every night to switch it off and go to bed at my usual sleeping time.

Thanks! Was sitting on the fence, frankly, because all these Bollywood stars coming to streaming usually ends up in the show being about them rather than the story (e.g. that dumb Sushmita Sen show). But will watch after your reviews.

Recently saw this docuseries on Netflix and would strongly recommend it. Small number of episodes & quick.

Unseen on Netflix: 4/5

English-language series (interspersed with Tswana & Afrikaans) from South Africa. Pretty dark but spiked with some humour. Tells the story of a cleaner who ends up being an unlikely assassin. Somewhat loses its way in the end but it’s only 6 episodes and worth a watch.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Wrapped up entire first season of True Lies (2023)

Its based on the 1994 big-screen action comedy, an unfulfilled suburban housewife makes the shocking discovery that her seemingly ordinary husband is an international spy.

While its not able to get a great audience and rating, I kind of liked it. Needless to say, one can't compare this with the 1994 blockbuster movie. Sadly, its been cancelled by CBS after one season.

For me overall rating: 3.5/5

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

City of dreams season 3 (Hotstar) 3/5
The story continues from season 2. Intense, poweful role play by Priya Bapat!
Like a typical political drama, the plot slowly unfolds. The climax at the end is a bit surprising and unbelievable. Overall one time watch.

Crackdown season 2 (Jio) *** total crap ***
Watched 1st episode for the cast - Sonali Kulkarni, Shriya. However, to my dismay, the direction is pathetic and laughable. When a flight is hijacked, top Indian officials sitting in a room and getting critical updates like whereabouts of the flight from a news channel; same thing is done by Pak's military heads; RAW agent walking solo into a diplomat's house, killing all bodyguards, and forcing him to call ISI chief!
Take a bow APOORVA LAKHIA - THE director

Save the Tigers (Telugu)

It is a comedy riot. One of the first Telugu series in which all the characters have done excellent job. Nice storyline too. Folks in late 30's and 40's will connect with the characters.

I would rate it 5/5.

3 Roses

A good attempt. Low on quality due to a few characters not performing well. A little overboard sometimes.

A better director and good acting would have done wonders for this show. Eesha Rebba, Cecil and Harsha performed well. Others need to up their acting.

3/5.

FUBAR: 3.5/5

Simple, fun show. I know in this day and age people are looking for more substance....but sometimes its nice to just enjoy a campy show. It’s great light hearted fun with action and comedy.

It reminded me of TRUE LIES and in my humble opinion, they manage to create the same feel.
