Billions (Season 7 Episode 1) :

The dialogues are concise & sharply lay out the intensity of the scene. They have set the foundation of the narrative well. Very intriguing at many levels.

Hijack : Saw just the first episode. Seemed ok. Will continue watching it on and off.

Watched season 1 of "The Americans" on Disney Hot star and it is superb. It is a serious cold war espionage drama involving KGB spies and FBI agents. The acting, dialogues are of top order and there are terrific action sequences. Highly recommended for the lovers of spy genre movies.

Watched 'Taali' on Jio Cinema based on transgender activist Gauri Sawant. Sushmita Sen in the title role is terrific and so is the entire supporting cast and the screenplay. Highly recommended!

Finished watching "Scoop" on Netflix. Brilliant work by Hansal Mehta and team, as usual. Karishma Tanna has evidently put in a lot of efforts into her role, essaying the reel-life Jigna Vora. Horrific to think what she and her family must have gone through during that tumultuous period.

The Americans is one of my favourite shows. Hope you watch the whole series at a stretch. Superbly executed. Nail-biting!
P.s. Keri Russell has been a long-standing crush

Watching foundation season 2 on Apple TV. New episode drops every Friday. Most shows drop in quality after season 1 but this is even better than season 1.

Kohra (Netflix). What a series, solid 5/5, and highly recommend it. It does borrow some of the narrative devices from Better Call Saul (another one of my favorites).
Made in Heaven (Prime). Had very high expectations after an excellent Season 1. Just started it, but can already see that the cast and the narration are fatigued, and looks like it won't be great.

4.5/5.
There is no right or wrong. He had many sympathisers- People close to him staying in the forest hamlets and villages who were getting money from him. He was hailed like Robin hood. During 90s, I studied in a boarding school attached to BRT tiger reserve. Still remember forest check post having posters of him and his gang members with the reward money mentioned. He also came close to collaborating with LTTE and many believe that he got his arms from them. Just last week, clicked a pic of a bike having his picture on the wind shield in Thoppur.

One thing I am sure of is, our forces should not be very proud of this chapter. They failed to capture him or kill him for more than 20 years, with all the state machinery working with/for them.
For the records, he was captured when he was still a small time sandalwood smuggler. He was locked inside a forest office room in Boodipadaga ( near K-Gudi). He acted of stomach ache and asked for castor oil to apply on tummy. Then he applied the oil on his wrists and was able to squeeze his wrists out of shackles and escaped. Later when sandal smuggling and transportation became difficult, he started elephant killing for tusks.

1000 elephants killed might be exaggeration. His peak elephant killing years might be around 7 to 10 yrs. First few years he was mainly into Sandalwood, last 5-7 years, he was mainly dependent on 'hafta' from granite quarries. So even if we consider 10 years of active elephant poaching, then every month he had to kill 8 tuskers on an average. From what I have heard, killing and removing tusks, teeth, nails etc woul take 2 days. Gang used to camp at same place and use axes and saws to take out the tusks. Also cook food with elephant meat itself ( or monkey meat). So every week he had to kill 2 elephants on an average.

He took advantage of his area of operations which had forest sharing border with tamilnadu and karnataka. Since the coordination between Karnataka & Tamilnadu was not great and also owing to political issues like Kaveri disputes, governments were not willing to collaborate just to catch a smuggler. Also, there were rumors that STF and forest department willingly didnt catch him as he was a cash cow for them. Government was allocating lot of money for his capture. How that money was used can be left to anyone's guess.

I have just started watching the series. Not sure all of these anecdotes are presented or not. Thought will share anyhow.

Somehow managed to finish Witcher S3.

This season just felt so disjointed and just not "Witcher" enough. And with Henry not reappearing for the next season, I guess that's that then.

Rocket Boys Season-2 on Sony Liv

Took off from where it left in Season-1. And just like season-1, the personal life bits seemed a bit stretched but other than that, no complaints. Jim Sarbh is absolutely fantastic & Ishwak Singh also has done a great job.

Rating : 4.5/5

Made in Heaven Season-2 on Amazon Prime

I like this series for the Big-FAT Indian weddings. Personally hate being a part of these but on screen its fun to watch. All characters have done justice to their roles. Each episode touches upon a sensitive topic. Was a decent watch.

Rating : 3.5/5

Taali (Jio) 2/5
I had high hopes from this one but surely it disappointed me. It has solid cast and renowned director. But the series fails to involve audience. Sushmita looks out of place for this role. Despite all beauty injections, age is showing off her face, Very ordinary acting. Director Ravi disappoints. Some scenes really lack detailing and depth. Comical to see what director wants audience to belive. The inner struggle and agony of a transgender is missing. All is made to appear superficial.
To it's credit, it surely tries to educate audience on the third gender's plight in the country.

Guns and Gulaabs (Netflix) 2/5
Watched this for Rajkumar Rao and Gulshan. The weakest performance by Rajkumar so far.
It surely doesn't have any storyline. Entertaining and boring in pieces.
I have started believing, when you see 'from the makers of/creators of' line advertising a show, referring old hits, it surely is gonna be disatser.

Binge watched Guns and Gulaabs - a dark comedy series with traces of Guy Ritchie inspiration and thats a good thing.

On the contrary, I loved the quirky nature of the 80s era story. Much like in true Guy Ritchie style, all the stories tie up together in the end.

Guess its a love it/hate it types. Nothing in between..

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Started watching Aakhri Sach on Hotstar, 2 episodes till now, has the Burari suicides as a base story which is then fictionalised, not bad as of now, on the other hand, Gulaab and Guns or whatever, I am not even able to finish with fast forward mode on, some of the best actors in this clueless drama, what a waste.

Had to really put in an effort to finish this; a decent storyline but terrible execution. Not engaging at all, despite having stellar actors - the kids have done a terrific job as well!

We're waiting for the final season to conclude so we can watch all of Season 7 in one go.
