re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Agreed, it has Surprisingly high rating in IMDB, that's what fooled me too

but the music sucked too, why are they playing a hero song for a guy who is basically someone who helps thieves? Ryan Gosling has a killer smile but there are so many scenes where he is smiling for no good reason.

There are so many loopholes -

How or why a sweet looking mechanic or whatever he actually is becomes a brutal guy is beyond me.

he keep talking about 5 minutes but in both the scenes there was no connection with that statement.

What does this guy really wants? become a rally driver/Stunt driver or just a transporter for Thugs? If yes then why does he say no to a potential job?

Why does the guy in lift wait till the hero gets to kiss the heroine?

There are so many other moments

Watched this beautiful movie called "The Fountain". Starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz, this is one of the most beautifully shot movies I have seen in a long time. The ending sequence, especially, has the ability to move even the most stone-hearted people. Definitely recommended.

The story is about a Stunt Driver who also doubles as a Transporter sometimes & who also decides to become Rally Driver (Actually it was not clear what he actually wanted to do really). The rest of the story is quite boring, the girls husband comes back from Jail, he wants to be a good guy but the bad guys don't let him be, Hero tries to help & gets involved much more than he planned to.

Its based on a Novel, may be they interpret it wrongly or maybe it the screenplay was bad. The character portrayals & storyline is pretty lame.

1.5/5
We have such conflicting views my friend. . This movie has nothing to do with either stunt driving or transporting or anything else for that matter. Its a pure art house flick with tonnes of style.

I absolutely adored every minute of Drive - the color, the music, the slow pace was just so reminiscent of the best of the 80's. Very many scenes reminded me of Robert de Niro's Taxi Driver.

The cinematography - especially the lighting of every scene with soft shadows was just spectacular. You can take every frame of that movie, print it and put it up on a wall and it wouldn't look out of place. My favorite shot is the one in which Ryan Gosling gets into the garage with the dude getting beaten up in the corner. The way the camera pans while the car is turning to keep the action in the frame is a masterpiece.

The entire movie is a style statement - actors conveying emotions without a single word, the darkness of the night highlighting the despair in the characters' lives, the calmness of the protagonist in the face of mounting odds - this was film making perfection.

This movie along with Jodaeiye Nader az Simin (A separation) were my favorites of last year.

Yeah, looks like that. I went in with a different expectation due to its name & the short description given on Netflix.

Safe

Safe was ok, Jason statham and his regular style.

Safe house was good.

My future boyfriend was quite funny at few innocent questions asked by the Guy from future.

Not a movie as such, but with the amount of editing done, it could well qualify to be one.
Chris Rock - Kill the messenger.
5/5
being Chris rock, you know you gotta keep the wife, parents, and kids away.

Its 3 shows, stitched together absolutely seamlessly, mostly right in mid sentence.

And hilarious.
I dare you 2 times.
1-not laugh out loud
2-watch it with a significant other....

re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Anyone watched Prometheus? I kinda liked the movie contrary to my all my other friend's opinion that the movie sucked. Initially I also felt that movie lacked many things but after thinking about the sequences and joining the pieces together I now feel that it's not all that bad. Yes, there were many questions unanswered but I somehow liked the way it was presented. I would like to know the answers of many questions but can't ask the questions without giving away spoilers :( . This one bags for a sequel and I'm very sure that there will be one. And those visuals were nothing less than stunning. Any other views?
