Watched "First Man" - Documents Neil Armstrong's run up to stepping in the moon. Very nice bio-pic although due to paucity of time, scenes jump from one to another!

Ref - movie 1408
When you say there are 3 endings , do you mean there are 3 versions of the same movie ?

Watched "First man" and while the storyline is good, I found the cinematography too jittery and noisy. They have shot most of the scenes with handheld cameras without any OIS and it tends to get really shaky at times. To the extent that it made me nauseous even in a normal conversation scene! I watched it in 2D and I would really pity the guys who watch it in 4DX. In the rocket launch scenes most scenes are too shaky that you can't even see a thing. I wish they had shot the movie better. The storyline is also a drag and gers really slow at places.
Overall rating 2/5

Yes, there were multiple endings shot although only one released in India. (I was aware of only 2, Fillmore told us that there are 3 versions).

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Mandy 3.5 / 5
If someone's a fan of gory killing with all the fanfare (think Grindhouse), then Mandy's the movie for you. Dark, brutal, right-in-your-face, this is a movie to be watched on the super-HD-fancy-gizmozish-featured-SuperBrilliantColors-wala-TV of yours - the colors, lightning and unearthly imagery will be only best seen on such a display. And Nicholas Cage is at his best!

93% Certified on the Rotten Tomatoes; this is a movie saved for those moments when one is having one of those days.

Edit: The screengrab that defines the tone of the movie

P.s. The one word that describes this movie (and a learning for me) - phantasmagoric

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Saw A Star is Born last night.

Phenomenal acting by Lady Gaga, she's such a natural; Bradley Cooper is brilliant, as always. If you're a music fan, this movie has a terrific soundtrack. Look up Swallow and Always Remember Us This Way.

The first half is just plain outstanding. 5/5
The second half is mostly run-of-the-mill drama and doesn't injustice to the first half.

Overall 3.5/5. Worth watching in the theaters for the sound.

Crazy Rich Asians – A bit like a Bollywood candy floss but a very well-made movie. And they showcase Singapore with all its richness (literally)
3.5/5.0

Enjoyable but a lot of the film is shot in Malaysia

First scene where the mothers are having a bible study- in KL
The London hotel - Penang
First major banquet - in KL
Mahjong Room - Penang
Beach scenes - Langkawi

Yes, quite a lot in Malaysia... even what they show as Rawa islands was Langkawi. Wedding at Gardens by the Bay and MBS is now a prestige thing among the rich here. The Church is actually right next to where I work

The Awakening
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1687901/

Good mystery/horror/thriller movie. Beautifully shot and with nice acting and a good paced storyline, the movie was a good watch on a rainy Friday night .

Venom : 3.5 / 5

Fun, brutal, fast-paced, in-your-face super-antihero movie. This is pure fun movie; Tom Hardy does a fantastic job as the moody and slightly dumb Brock as well as the slightly funny and imish Venom. All through the 2nd half of the movie, I could only ponder - hwo amazing it will be if Venom cast somehow gets included in the next Infinity Wars movie

Watched 'Revenge' on Netflix recently. Man, what a film.
Very Tarantino'ish.

Saw Crazy Rich Asians last evening and I'll give it 3 / 5 stars. At best, one should watch it on TV; not worth going to the theatre IMHO.

Was surprised at how highly Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB & international reviewers have rated it. Is surely an overrated flick. But then, for those in the West, such marriages & family dramas are new. For us Indians, it's a part of our regular life + wedding ceremonies + TV serials + movies. You could say we've grown up with them, so there's nothing really new for us in the movie.

Operation Finale

Just finished Operation Finale at Netflix. Its a must watch for people who love to watch movies /series based on Mossad. Operation Finale is based on true events of the capture of Adolf Eichmann.

Quote:
In 1934, Adolf Eichmann was appointed to the Jewish section of the “security services” of the SS. From then on, he became deeply involved with the formulation and operation of the “final solution to the Jewish question.” He drew up the idea of deportation of Jews into ghettos and went about concentrating Jews in isolated areas with murderous efficiency. He took great pride in the role he played in the death of 6 million mainly European Jews.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

The Equaliser 2
Same as the first part. But, more as a personal revenge story. Denzel shines as usual. Quite enjoyable if you are an action movie lover.
Rating - 4/5

Solo- A star wars story
It's good but not great. Not a typical star wars movie I was expecting but a good time pass. Expected more.
Rating - 3/5

Pacific Rim Uprising
I didn't enjoyed the first one much so had low expectations with this too. Quite rightly it's an average movie with a thin storyline and poor acting. Better avoided.
Rating - 2/5
