As someone who loves political dramas, I cherished every minute of it . Will give it 5 / 5 stars. Christian Bale is awesome, so is Amy Adams as his strong + supportive wife.

I find it quite weird though that a 2018 movie hasn't yet come on any of the usual channels or streaming options. I caught it on a recent international flight:

The best movies usually do not make it, specially those highlighting political or human issues. I recommend another movie called Camp X-Ray, Kristen Stewart's finest movie yet and a fantastic story overall about friendship from across the prison doors, it also highlights the deficiencies of a "holding facility" like Guantanamo Bay.

Also closer home to the business/economic drama is an unknown movie called The Company Men (2010), though the cast is anything but unknown with the likes of Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones and Ben Affleck.

Both can make for a good weekend watch.

Lovely movie from Mira Nair. Really liked it but I haven't read the book though.
Crisp cinematography with very tight scripting.
. It's on Hotstar. Watched it and will rate it 5 / 5 stars. Superb story, acting & even the music score. I went and downloaded some songs from the movie.

Strongly recommended.

Searching = A very good one time watch.
Had come across Searching previously on Prime, but never bothered to watch it. Saw the recommendations on this thread and gave it a shot yesterday, and I'm impressed! It's a very unique movie in its own way, and everyone should give it a watch. Also, had I realized earlier that it is John Cho on the poster, I would've watched it no questions asked. What a fresh change from the Harold Lee we usually associate himself with

The Reluctant Fudamentalist: 5/5

Thanks for the recommendation, GTO. Have always been a fan of Mira Nair's films, and loved this one too. A few reviews pointed out that the film was trying to shove Urdu music down the viewers' throats, but I didn't think that was the case at all. The music was amazing.

Would recommend this to everyone.

If you're a fan of his, you must have seen flash forward. If you haven't, you must. A TV series, though.

While the movie is good, it will still not make it to my "Iconic Movies" list. Good one time watch.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

I almost did the criminal act of guffawing loudly in a flight that was in the "sleep" mode with shades down and lights off with only the little stars on the ceilings that some of the new-age planes have.

Reason: Green Book . Fantastic performances by two lead actors who are at the top of their game, and a plot that puts their characters on a very uncomfortable road trip through the south of US in sixties.

I enjoyed the movie thoroughly. Though the movie is primarily about the race divide in US, one can easily relate it to the caste differences and injustices around it in India.. Keeps you engrossed, and sometimes makes you squirm in your seats, and probably wondering about what it is to be at the wrong end of a race/class divide. The movie also has some nice light-hearted moments between the two characters to keep you smiling, and have a heartly laugh sometimes.

Planning to catch up once again, once it streams through any of the popular options we have..

Watched MiB International yesterday. While it was not as good as it's predecessors it was nonetheless a decent time pass flick.

If you want to know all abt history of Kashmir from early 10th century (and its implication in current times) please have a look at “Kashmir The Story” - a series on Amazon Prime.
Very nicely told - just facts. No trying to influence.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Want to watch a really touching movie? Go ahead and stream "Taking Chance" on Hotstar.

I'm going to give it 5/5 stars even though it doesn't really have a story. The movie is about a Lieutenant Colonel escorting the remains of a young Marine home. And that's pretty much it. Very, very slow too. But the emotions, dialogues, respect from the general public will leave you emotional.

Will watch again sometime. Brilliant!

This one scene summarises the entire movie:

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Caught up 3 movies recently on Hotstar.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist 4/5

Great movie, excellent acting and well shot overall. A tad bit slow and I wish Kiefer had a bigger role. The climax is brilliant !

Kidnap 4/5

Simple kidnap story, but what works is that there are no over the top chase sequences, or too many cop action scenes. Movie is owned by Halle Berry, who plays the mother of the son who gets kidnapped. It is very realistic and impact full.

Unsane 3/5

Weird movie, though the plot is interesting and relatable. We have seen something similar in Akshay Kumar's 'Gabbar is back'. Except the villain and the lawyer (Matt Damon), all actors were unknown to me. A one time watch on a boring weekend afternoon.

Thanks for the tip. Shall give it a watch. It's on YouTube as well. [On the Times Now Official Channel]

But i guess this should be discussed on the TV series or documentary thread?

I watched once upon a time in Holywood. Do not expect your typical Tarantino movie. Good reviews on the internet. I found myself all by myself in a 202 seat Swedish cinema. Still, I enjoyed the movie. Very different from all his different plots, but again with a very strong and unexpected ending. Beautiful 60s colourfull scenes. Make sure to brush up on your Manson / Tate knowledge.

How come none of you mentioned a glaring error in the movie?
In the first 15 minutes of the movie, where they show the lead actor's home, supposedly in Lahore and as he is pushing his dad's dear car, an Innova passes them, but then the error was, that in the very next frame an Indica passes them. Now I would assume no Pakistani worth his salt would buy an Indica, even if it was ever sold in Pakistan.
