Coolie No. 1 (2020 version): 0.25/5

Desperately trying to copy the original movie, very poor acting, extremely lame jokes and non-existent roles given to some good actors. Overall, a recipe for sheer torture throughout the length of the movie.

Avoid at all costs!

Unadulterated TRASH movie.

On the other hand I enjoyed watching the AK v/s AK
I enjoyed the movie and while Kashyap is no where in the same league as Anil Kapoor in terms of acting he was bearable. Anil Kapoor is brilliant.

Public response often goes opposite to that from the critics.

Is the film entertaining? How is this movie doing on the box office? The one featuring Govinda was hit.

Reworking old hits is one thing, but massacring own movies is an extreme art.
The saving grace of David D’s movies was Govinda and when you try to replace him with Varun, it’s like an sure-fire recipe for disaster.

The writer Avinash Sampath shines through. Kid has a great future. AK was brilliant (Dont ask which AK, cos both were good . This experimental film heralds India's arrival on the global stage

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Attempted to watch Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari. Could not get past 20min.

It is absolutely annoying to see actors fake accents/languages and in this movie, even Supriya Pilgaonkar speaks Marathi with an accent. There's only so much Diljit Dosajh I can tolerate before his loud and cliche characters get irritating. Seemed like a very haphazard storyline and forced humor.

I didn't finish watching so no rating but 1/5 for the 20min I watched.

Whoa, quite a statement there. There are SO many experimental, both commercial/masala as well as art movies coming out on such a regular basis that have proven their mettle that I'd be surprised if it was this movie to herald anything.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Can you recall anything similar to have come out of Indian cinema? Any names?

Nail Polish

The Hindi Movies Thread-nailpolishmoviereview.jpg

Synopsis - A legal thriller that explores the uncertainty of the human mind.

Pretty decent court room thriller but Manav nailed it. Brilliant acting and won't be surprised if it attracts some attention.

PS - The movie subject is a bit sensitive.

Rating - 4/5

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

I'd rate; 2/5
It looked very dated; lighting, sets etc. Direction by Bhargav was 80s as well. Arjun Rampal slept through his role. Script was very predicable.

Many know Raabta was a flop. But I watched it for the first time recently only for his enchanting allure. Happy birthday to this legend. RIP

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched The White Tiger (not sure if it falls under Hindi or English!).
The movie seems like made to a foreign audience. Then its also that the lead character takes you through the movie by writing a letter to Chinese PM. Nothing new in the movie.

Rajkumar Rao's accent was an issue for lot of reviewers. I find that laughable. You dont need to have a accent after coming back. The lead actor has done a fantastic job. He seems so real.

The White Tiger (2021) - 4.5/5

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this one. Story is engrossing and the the performance by the star cast is brilliant especially by the lead actor Adarsh Gaurav. He completely took it to the next level!
I watched it in English language which has a fair bit mix of Hindi anyways and I have not read the book its based upon.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

I didnt see much of a story there, but wasn't boring in any way. What was that about writing to the Chinese PM, and Rao's 'made up' accent. Felt odd in places. In comparison, Slumdog had me in grips. But Gaurav got into the skin of the character. He zapped me with his performance. So for that alone I'd give it 3/5
