Yes, that is the cheapest.

You could catch up on Kaanekkane and Churuli as well there to get the returns.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched Churuli because of all the hype. The last time I was disappointed with LJP was with his Jallikkettu. Such a pretentious movie. Same with Angamaly Diaries. And, not to mention Double Barrel, which tested my patience for 30 minutes before I imploded and switched off the TV. But I should say I liked Amen a lot except for that culmination of showdown at the end.

Things were different in the case of Churuli. This one is at the very least, watchable. Yeh, but watch it alone.

Does LJP think that he can be Malayalam's Tarrantino by injecting cuss words everywhere? True, the storyline demands a lot, but in this village, nobody - including women- cannot say a sentence without a cuss word? And when you inject two and three into one single sentence, then you know how hard the writer is trying.

At the end when you endure through all that, what do you end up with? An attempt to imitate Tarrantino, Nolan and Speilberg all in one movie?

'Churuli' - Ridiculous time waster. Lijo Jose must be addicted to some strong stuff. Another highly bizzare and pretentious movie with dialogues so gross that you wonder why OTT does not have censorship applied to it.

Please avoid.

Agree with you. I am not a fan of his movies either. Infact I did not like Amen either. Too less happening to keep me interested. I tried my best to sit through Ee Mau Yau, but could not endure that either. Realised it's not my style.

Still tried to give Churuli a go (subscribed sonyliv for 60 dollars lol)

20 minutes into the movie, I am wondering what is the thing with all the filthy language. I think it's simply too much. Still there is an element of interest in the movie. Watched around 45 minutes and I guess I will complete the remaining today.

I took the monthly option and immediately canceled so that auto-billing doesn't kick in the next month. Effectively $13.xx to watch 3 movies

Yes, I started just to see what the hype is about but ended up finishing the whole movie in one stretch.

No Man's Land - This being the malayalam "filth" season, another one in the same genre. Lukmann Lukku and Sreeja Das shines through. Strictly for adults. Strictly not for family viewing (lots of cuss words and usage of drugs).

Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam :- Nice movie and agree with the reviews posted here. Half way through I was thinking how they are going to end the movie and it was a real surprise. We (mom, wife, and I) really enjoyed it.

Kaanekkane (Malayalam) - Nice movie and as usual Suraj's acting is superb well supported by Tovino and Aishwarya Lekshmi. I am not big fan of Tovino's acting but he acted well in this one. Liked his messy beard look too.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Churuli

While the Spielberg/Tarantino/Tarkovsky inspiration is all too evident, Churuli is yet another breathtaking, subversive piece of auteur cinema from a master in complete command of his craft.

The barrage of expletives beginning 15 minutes into the movie is neither obnoxious nor offensive. For one, I didn’t hear a single cuss word that I hadn’t heard before. And two, given the limited budget, the unending stream of profanities results in an abrupt change of tone- a very effective way to let the viewer know they have crossed the bridge (literally and metaphorically) and entered the ‘Churuli’.

While there are undertones - both subtle and not so subtle - of social and political commentary in the movie, I chose to enjoy it for the metaphysical, fantastical exploration of the bare human psyche - animal and raw. Not to mention the nod to sci-fi classics of yore.

Okay, I completed the movie yesterday and I guess I should complete the review as well.

I agree to the majority here. It is an exercise in absurdity (or rather like another review mentioned- when Gibberish pretends to have meaning). Whatever interest was built up dissipated fast enough as I failed to make head or tail out of what Mr. Pellissery wants to convey. Or like I mentioned previously, I simply am not the target group for his movies.

Utterly boring and in many ways seemed pretentious to my senses (no offence intended to those who liked it).

My verdict: Strictly avoid.

Just watched in SonyLIV after the reviews especially being mystery thriller. My observation is that, the initial story & final climax was close enough, but not matching.

Had the director probably made Antony & Sajeevan getting astray into the forest wandering like crazy, that would've been an apt ending to Perumadan's story rather than the jeep unifying into the bright moon light.

It was OK to me even with all profanity language, Wife didn't like the movie for all the initial hype & the climax

Churuli (Malayalam) - I have enough work pressure and personal issues already to deal with. I just want to relax and enjoy the movie and this is not the one. I may watch it again later to figure out what director wanted to convey. Rating 2/5.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Pretentious is the right way to describe Churuli. I have watched several movies that leave the storyline open to interpretation, and it is commendable that somebody attempted it in Malayalam cinema. But all the effort is useless if the movie fails to communicate. I see people parroting interpretations that are being circulated by some movie reviews. If somebody needs to tell you what you saw, then there is no point in seeing it.

And even after you read all the interpretations, and you think you understand what you just saw, the next question that comes to your mind is - so what? What is the point? The movie's influences are obvious and that does not help matters, cos we thus realize what the movie set out to be and what it ended up as.

Now coming to the language used - again, I am not averse to some bad language used in movies as long as it helps the story. Here what the writer uses the language for is obvious, but he takes it and goes overboard with it. Even the most vile, morally corrupt person will not use so many expletives in everyday language. The writer end up making the movie an expletive porn.

I wouldn't advise anybody to stay away from this film. At least LJP deserves credit for making a movie that defies conventions. He deserves all the criticism he is getting, but the movie does deserve a watch.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

I loved the background score which was superbly immersive in the Atmos set up. And the visual splendour had me watching, till the ridiculous ending. I mean 'what was that?' A sensible exit could have still salvaged it for me
