Thanks for your reply. I tried that once while doing an ecu re-set but that didn't change anything. The blue illumination is working just fine on the instrument panel and climate control. On the CD player I see the display with proper track info displayed however don't see the blue light.. Makes it very difficult to check the track info during nights.

The second thing worked was a hit on the top of the player - A gentle but firm one . This worked on a friends car - same issue, dimmed blue light on CD player display!!

Probably I feel the connector behind is lose.

Now I guess it is an internal problem to the Alpine Head Unit :(
But - last attempt, please check all the fuses once more, even if the connector is fine if nothing comes to the connector things can still be bad!

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

My 2012 Civic had a 'rou rou rou' type running noise audible at 35kmph+ I took it to service station, and they said rear tire (driver side) has uneven wear (more like wavey on inner side). They swapped it with spare tire. The noise has reduced, but not gone entirely. Back home, I checked the other rear tire, and that too seem to have this wavey wear on inner side.

I did some search, and this problem is termed as 'cupping' or 'scalloping'. Looks like cause is bad alignment/camber etc.

Did anyone face this issue in Civic? Is periodic alignment the solution? Or is it due to some other issue that needs attention?

Thanks

How much have your car run? Is it only with this change of tyres? what was the life of the previous set of tyres? What do you foresee with this set?

Periodic alignment is the key, atleast it gives you an early indicator.

Unfortunately our Civic'c camber cannot be adjusted, unless you replace the arms with adjustable camber.

The reasons can be many including worn out bushes, bent arms etc etc. Check alignment once more if you have not done it for a long while, if the camber issue still persists it is time to show it to a suspension specialist to diagnose and change the required components.

The bulging/bubbling of tire at specific place is most probably a manufacturing defect wherein the tire develops bulge/blister causing a wavy ride(due to the bulge hitting the road in a cyclic manner).

It has little/nothing to do with your car's suspension. Check if your tire is in warranty, raise a warranty claim with the dealer. The company should replace it on pro-rata basis after calculating the % of original rubber left on your tire.

Else, you have no other option than replacing it with a new tire bearing full cost.

Bad alignment shall cause pulling of your car to left/right when it should go straight without any steering input.

Bad camber setting shall lead to asymmetrical balding of tire wherein the inner side may worn out faster than outer side or vice-a-verse.

Regards

Probably, I am still getting it wrong. But, even after re-reading Safesteer's post, I feel the problem is 'wavey wear'. He also mentions the same problem with other tire.
Being a casualty of bad quality JK tyre rubber(got all 5 of company shodded JKs replaced for swelling up), I thought its the same problem. Also once the tyre bulges, it is bound to have uneven wear pattern on the inner side(where the bulge developed in this case) vs the outer end. Also, unlike the problem with Safesteer, misalignment or mis-cambered car wont produce any noises. Bad feel, definitely yes.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Thank you laluks and Grr7.

1. Car has run 21000 kms, and these are stock tires (including the swapped one) Bridgestone
2. Alignment was not done for long, but got it done 5 months ago.
3. No alignment related issues (pulling left / right) even when alignment was not done.

I do not notice bulge/blister in the tire. Neither do I see inner worn out uniformly than outer side. By wavey wear, I meant some parts worn out more than other - not bulging. If I run my hand over tire surface, I could feel dip-normal-dip at inner edge.

Do tires carry warranty, as my car is still within extended warranty period (one more year to go). Since this is last year of extended warranty, I wish to understand this issue fully and seek to correct any possible mechanical issues.
