You should be able to get the housing separately. Please check at spare part stores. The dealer may try and sell you the expensive full assembly.

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

In my civic, though the engine eventually cranks, it more so often is reluctant or lethargic to start. Suspecting the battery which was 4 yrs old, a new one (exide) was recently changed. Still there is lot of drama starting the engine. Suspecting that it might be the sub-woofer that is drawing current, I disconnected it. Even then, the issue still persists. Took the civic to the 'famous' FNG of NCR, and they couldn't troubleshoot it either, saying the starter and alternator are fine. I have a cigarette USB charger that also has a LED to show the voltage of the battery/alternator. Its shows 14.2 to 14.5 when running. My civic has run only 48K kms in the last 9 years.

Any insights what to check and troubleshoot?

There was a case with my civic wherein a wire from the alternator to the fuse box (i guess) was a bit loose causing similar starting troubles with battery not getting charged as well. Tightened it and everything fell in place.

Hope this helps.

Was it taken to Honda and hooked to diagnostics? A HDS scan may reveal error codes. Poor quality fuel, chocked fuel filter, clogged injectors etc are some of the things come to my mind. Does the car feel jerky while driving?

I would suggest 3 things, based on my experience

1) Try to get an old civic mirror from 2nd hand spares market. In Delhi, easily available in Mayapuri. Since the mechanism is working, you can get one for cheap which has damaged mechanism but intact cover.
2) Buy a full mirror assembly from after market or other dealers. Would cost in the range of 3-6K, depending whether its a new aftermarket or 2nd hand OEM. (check out OLX also)
For both the above, you will need to get it painted if it is in a different shade.
3) If you can live with the small crack in the housing (get it filled with some putty and then painted, or some plastic welding), then you can get just the indicator assembly from Aliexpress. It can be bought for roughly 6-700 rupees. But shipping will take time.

I have experience in methods 1) & 3) above.

Thanks Vineet!! Appreciate your detailed inputs, just what I was looking for. I'll try your options (more leaning to 1 and 2, although will try 3 if 1 or 2 are expensive).

Shall update you and others on finally what worked.. fingers crossed. The civic is an amazing car barring for the high spares costs.

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

@ Pravint

Hi, good idea to look for a Used Civic, it is a great car.

If you go through this thread, similar questions were asked many times by prospective used Civic buyers and you can get good inputs from there. Nevertheless, some inputs from my side..
  • Check the Driver side Engine mount - there should be a gap of atleast 1/2 cm. If the rubber is touching the metal part, then you can expect some expenses in this regard shortly (OE @ 9K, 3rd Party @ 3 K)
  • Check for oil leaks - especially power steering, this may cause big dents in your wallet if it is the famous Power Steering Rack, Pump issue
  • Check the underside of all doors for any rust
  • Check the suspension
  • If it is Automatic, check whether all the correct lights burn properly in D,R,S,N, P etc., if there are any "blinks" in any stage, then there is going to be a bigger problem transmission related

Above are specific to Civic. Else, you would definetely need to check complete service history for mileage, regular replacements of spares etc.,

Also, like any other car, underbody check for rust, battery, Oil, Engine area, battery charging capacity of Alternator, Belts etc.,

Offcourse the legitemacy of the papers - original RC, Insurance, Duplicate keys etc.,

Hope you get a good car and if you do get one, YOU WILL ENJOY it and never let it go.

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

an update..

A/c was not cooling a couple of months back
Topped up gas and was holding OK for a month or so
Then, lost its charm again
Pressure tested it and there was leak identified in the cooling coil
Replaced with Denso make
The specialist removed only the lower portion of the Glove box, removed the blower and the Coil
He also removed the Air filter from the Engine side to make some space to get that coil out
The old coil was "terrible" as I did not know when the previous owner changed it
Replaced, filled oil, gas and now it is great
Time taken - precisely 1 hour and 30 minutes - it was that quick under the experienced hand.
Amount Spent - 11K all inclusive with 6 months warranty
Hope it holds on for few years

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Any good service center for Civic. Mine is now at 85K need to give it for servicing to look at suspensions, some body paint and usual service. I can go to Honda A.S.S but which one is the best of them?

I was also toying with the idea of changing suspensions from soft Honda to something that gives more firmer ride. I knew Koni were ones, anything else that i should consider, also where should i give the car to get them replaced?

Haha. A good service center is a myth. They are all out to extract the maximum from you. Southend Honda was the worst.

My car is going good at 182000 Kms, the last time it was 'serviced' at HASS was at 90k.

If you must, Ring Road Honda ain't that bad.

Re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Hello Team,

Quick question: is it required to drill holes on the trunk lid for fitting spoiler on the Civic? I'm talking about the OE look spoiler.

Thanks!

Think so. This is from the usdm Civic, though I think it should be similar for the one we have

After 60k plus km now we need to replace the four dampers. The car goes in this week. Total damages expected to be about 60k.

Why didnt go through aftermarket route ? Isn't 60k too much just for dampers. You could have got Konis, or something even better at much lesser cost.
