I have a zdi and have found the braking to be adequate. Probably the brake boosters and wider foot print has to do with that.

The l and v variants have reported to have issues by many members earlier in the thread.

The ZDis dont have any braking issues as they are equipped with ABS however the problem is in the new LDi and VDi models, we have thread started by morabfibre about the issue he is facing with respect to the brakes in his new swift VDi.

guys, the issue quoted on forbes is more specific to petrol models (L, V & Z). The brakes becoming hard is a generic issue with all petrol models and it is attributed to insufficient vacuum produced at low speeds.

Don't the petrol and diesel models have the same brake system? It wouldn't be cost effective to have separate brakes for diesel and petrol (unless ofcourse either one of them is way more powerful than the other). I hope Maruti comes clean if there really is a problem with the brakes.

Petrol models use the vacuum generated by the engines for assisting the brake boosters. For Diesel cars, there is a separate vacuum chamber which produces vacuum to assist the brakes. Since the engine vacuum is not sufficient at lower rpms, the brakes become hard.

I have planned to change my new SWIFT's fog lamps. Can anyone confirm if the below can be directly swaped with my existing fogs?

Confirm with seller whether it would fit in H8 type holder without any mods. Swift fog lamps are H8, H11 bulb has a slightly wider tab on the base.

Dear NEW Swift owners, the Braking issue reffered in above article is "weak brakes at ultra low speeds"/ "the brakes efficiency at half clutch while reversing or during bumper to bumper traffic drives" and not commenting about Brakes in normal speed.(This is about New 2011 car)
Swift is a gem of a car and IMO the swift owners are too happy with the car and its performance that they are not acknowledging the braking fault or they might have not experienced this half clutch drives with brakes pushing 2-3 times.
Note:Hope I am not offending swift owners.

Sankar, Maruti's spare parts guy says, the new's fogs are H11 and hence I choose this particular size. Can you please confirm if the new swift's fogs are h8s or H11s?

Fog light bulb is H8. Its mentioned in the owners manual section 11 page 3 (11-3).

My old Astar had the same H8 bulbs in the fog lamps and to fit H11, which are 55W, in the fogs the steel tabs on the bulbs had to be ground off a little. Thats why asked you to confirm with the seller that the LED lights are indeed for H8 holder, otherwise it wouldn't fit.

Edit: H8 will fit H11 holder so the bulb in that link might be H8 so that it can cater to both H8 and H11 requirements.

Thanks Shankar. I will check with the seller if he has H8 LED blubs. If yes, I shall buy them instead of these H11s.

It's baffling then why the problem should exist in the LDi and VDi variants too. In hindsight, I feel Maruti should have used the same brakes and brake booster from the older gen. Swift. Like they say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I had the old gen ZXi and can safely say that brakes were fantastic even after 5 years.

Let us know how it goes with the upgrade. Have you changed your headlamps too?

I plan to upgrade my headlamps and was quoted 1.15 K for Philips 100/90 bulbs with relay. This includes the installation charges.

hey where are you getting it done? MASS quoted me 2.5k and outside 1.2k. However, both warned that there might be issue with water getting in and damaging the system so am a little wary.

i was planning on getting xtreme visions if required.

This price was quoted by a shop in Milan subway at Santacruz West. Why would water get into the system? I haven't heard of this before. A blown fuse is more of a concern which is why a relay is a must.

My dealer (Sai Service) did not have the resources to do the headlamp upgrade. Asked me to get it down from outside. Assured me that warranty won't be void as long as a relay in installed and no wires are cut.
