Took a 400 km+ trip today in ritz zdi. My usual drive is a ford fiesta or the ecosport, but except for the 'monkey sitting' position pedals access, rest all seem to be good.

The ddis seem to be like a v-tec of the diesels. keep the revs low, it does it's work without a fuss, rev it to close the rpm meter, there's music from the engine, smoke behind the wheels and you are kms ahead of the (traffic) competition.

I was monitoring the FE consumption and got minimum 22+ in normal 2 lane road with 80-90 speeds. Expressway speeds brings it down rapidly- 100+ speeds i mean; the not so aerodynamic design also to be blamed i guess.

Wonderful piece of engineering, that cute little Multi-jet engine.

Just an update on the suspension issue I had. My left rear suspension struts were replaced under extended warranty. The ride is better, no noises creeping up. A question, do I need to get the wheel alignment done again ?

Yes. No harm in getting it checked. Will prolong the tyre life and keep the wear on tyres even.

IMO brake pads last minimum 60-70K in the Ritz D with normal driving style. An aggressive driver will eat the pads away may be by 40-50K but your cat has done 25K only. It all depend on how you drive. Late braking or using it frequently can also deteriorate it faster.

Get a second opinion please.

I just gave my Ritz VDI for service today, done 24000km. The service center (Kalyani Motors, Mysore Road, Bangalore) recommends a change in brake pad already.
Cost: Rs.1800/-

The risk of not changing, as the floor supervisor calls out, is a potential damage to the brake disc as well, and that'd cost another Rs.3000/-.

As of now, I've requested the service center guys not to replace the Brake Pad. But is this a fact that any of you have experienced earlier and could comment on?

Don't go by their words in the first place, get a clear second opinion before falling into the brake pads change recommendation.

First of all are you facing/finding any need to change the pads?

When you press the brakes does it have any kind of screeching sounds emanating?

Visit an FNG or another MASS for a clear picture.

How does the brake disc look like? Does have too many scratches on it?

Inspecting worn out brake pads is pretty straight forward stuff. The contact area would be worn out and you can make it out just by a close inspection if they are nearing the end of life.

And if they have already exhausted their lives, as Anurag said, it would make a rubbing noise like metal on metal while you apply the brakes. This will damage the discs too and the replacement is expensive. Take a call after physically inspecting the pads. Replacement can be easily carried at an FNG too. Not a complex procedure anyway.

Which is the best & recommended floor mats for Ritz ?

I had tried and tested lots but the fit was not perfect even for costly ones.

Few questions Ritzsters:
1. Views on highway stability at high speeds.
2. Back seat comfort at slow speed as well a high speed.
3. 1.3L difference variant per variant between petrol and diesel powered ritz. Is it worth spending? Especially when the car can do 5K kms a year or 20K kms too. It may stay longer than 3-5 years too, keep it in mind.
4. Views on maintaining diesel and petrol powered Ritz.

Pretty good enough till 130kmph. Just that we should be same enough at these speeds to avoid sharp maneuvers. Being a tall-boy may go wider off line.

Body-roll is decent, evident but under control.

I would say mildly harsh at slow speeds thanks to the did suspension setup.

High speed comfort is great.

All boils down to the usage of the car. If used betterment 2.5 - 3.5K a month then diesel is justified else Petrol is viable.

Depends on the owner as servicing is more or less similar.

'Correct and Required' items in job card shouldn't hurt.

As of now 500-1000 km a month. But may go upwards by another 1K.
Lets say if its 1.5 K for the next 7-8 years , would you suggest diesel? Honestly I don't know the exact figure the car would cover. Also my concern is efficiency, I can blindly trust Ddis.

For 12K kms a year, petrol seems good.

As you say that the coverage may increase in future then why not go ahead with Diesel now rather than adding a CNG later on to offset the running costs.

If you are looking at 1.5k or more I would say go with diesel. But do go for the version with ABS.

My Ritz's second paid service is coming up and I think the guys at Pratham's Queen's Road service centre just serve up a big quotation for no reason. Last time they said it will cost 7k. This time, the same figure again. Do you think Bosch Service centre will be a good alternative?

If yes, any feedback on Sri Raghavendra Bosch Service Centre, Whitefield? Since this place is closer to my office in Whitefield, I thought I will ask you guys before going for it. Or if you can also suggest any Bosch Centre or Garage closer to (or between) Frazer Town or Whitefield...it would be awesome!
