True Karl, it is. He drives it every Sunday and he had gotten up at 4:30 to come to the seaface. That's the vintage car DRIVERS I like! The engine was as silent as...a Royce! Astounding.

But I was amused by the little discussion we had regarding how the Ambassador families and the Mercedes Pontons having similar features. Who was influenced by whom? if at all

Some pictures i took of the drive. It was extremely hot towards the end of the day and traffic as usual at mahalaxmi gets nightmarish but the cars kept their cool and so did the owners.

Yes Prabal, the Royal Greyhound tried to avoid the paparazzi but to no avail, his tail was cought in a picture. He is the one driving the Ambassador in reality. What looks like a left hand steering wheel is just a fake I use, so as not to shock onlookers
Amol, considerig that the current shape of my Amabassador dates back to the 1954 Morris Oxford while your Mercedes Benz 180 was presented in 1953, yours is older. But than they all are sons of the wonderful Touring family: the Cisitalia 202, Alfa Romeo 6C 2300/2500 ecc. They started it all in 40ies Italy, if you disconsider the ugly German pre-war attempts at "Pontooning", that is :-)

For your viewing pleasure this was the evolution of the Ponton as displayed in the Mercedes Benz Museum at Stuttgart. one of them curiously looks like a Studebaker Flight Hawk.

It may have something to do with the tie-up that Mercedes had with Studebaker-Packard during the 1950s in the US. Pontons were sold through Stude-Packards dealerships in the US, I remember reading about this on the Ponton website.

This morning went out a bit late in my regular MORDERN car while scouting and roaming the city came across quite a few scattered cars either for a purpose or just having their own drive .A wonderful and colourful array of Nano's for an advert also amidst tight security.

Had an early morning drive scheduled at 7 am from the usual place on the Bandra side of the sea link . We had Karl in a lovely fiat just driven back from Poona , a 82 Cadillac , a 1960 SL and a Ford A from 1928 . Some shots taken at the sea link and also at Horniman circle Starbucks . Where we were joined by mr Dabholkar and his loving Austin, a Beetle and a Biscayne. Sadly I was in a mordern car of no consequence . We had a group of Harley bike owners also who have also started to meet up. Suddenly this outlet has become a grease junkie hub I feel on Sundays.

Weather was nice not harsh at all this early !

We then went across to help a friend to start up and remove his '59 Impala convertible after 40 odd years of non use. What a car and made the Sunday even brighter . Started with little coaxing and smooth just basic brakes which looked like they were jammed and needed to be freed ! What originality and manny images to follow soon.
