Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Last week bought Blackvue DR750S-2CH and installed the same in my Endevaour. Here are some sample videos from front and rear cameras.
Both are recorded in 1080p Full HD.

Feel free to comment and pour in your suggestion on location or installation.

I went through a big dilemma while buying. Started with Vantru N2 Pro on Aliexpress, ordered and cancelled within same day. Next I ordered Xiaomi 70Mai english version but finally decided to go for Thinkware or blackvue.

The interesting thing with this Dashcam is the ease of operation using the mobile app - "YI Dashcam". This app can be used to control the settings and download the videos from the SD card to our mobile using the in-built Wi-fi.
Did you opt for the suction type mount or the 3M sticker type mount?

Few pain point related to the app:
1) When you view/playback the video files, the recording is stopped.
2) The video takes too long to download

Off late I have seen the dashcam getting loose at the swivel joint, don't know if its due to heat inside the car. thinking about hardwiring the dashcam now, any inputs from existing Yi owners is welcome.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I use a DDPai Mini2 dashcam, and while i have been quite pleased with it in general, there is one irritant i have had to deal with.

The dashcam is attached to the windshield using a double sided tape, which came with the device. This held on well for a few months, and then i saw it give way, leaving the dashcam hanging off the wire, which i had run through the edge of the roof liner on my car. This helped prevent the dashcam from falling off and damaging itself. I tried with different replacement double sided tapes sourced locally, but with limited success. Eventually had to use jugaad to attach it. With explain if anyone is interested in knowing. Anyway, its holding on for now, and will see how it goes.

Meanwhile, for those interested in the videos from the dashcam, here are a couple of videos in daylight as well as night conditions.

I opted for Sticker type mount and mounted behind the IRVM plastic casing (not on windshield) and it is holding up good till now.

1) Yes, however I normally used to view/playback/download the videos only at the end of the drive, mostly in my parking - so no issues in that.

2) I normally download only the required portion, mostly 30 secs - 1 min length of video, so it downloads pretty quickly to my mobile.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

So for the upcoming 2000 kms drive was thinking how many memory cards i would have to carry to record the entire journey. I have a 200 GB + 128 GB + n64 GB card setup and my dash cam is the Transcend DP 220. I normally record in 720 p resolution as its enough to get the required details. Any suggestion if the above three cards will suffice
I also got Got this nifty device from Amazon (pic attached) which is the Wayona WR28 4-In-1 OTG Card Reader Connect With USB, Micro USB, Type C And Lightning Connector so as to be able to quickly check space left in the card instead of carrying the laptop

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Ordered Yi Mirror Dash cam in Aliexpress yesterday, after reading several reviews. Liked the stealth/discrete way of fitting dash cam plus reverse camera recording seems to be a plus. Being a Xiaomi (Mi) customer for several years which has good quality mobile phones, i hope Xioyi (Yi) will also be of good quality. Several reviews suggested the same.

Waiting for it to arrive

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hey Guys,
Im thinking of buying this one (Yi dual dash cam, mirror mounted)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/YI-M...ceBeautifyAB=0

There is a 30% off offer valid today and tomorrow. I couldn't find anything about this product on this thread, hence posting(Mods, forgive me if it is a repost!).
Can someone please give me some quick feedback/advice on this? I would like a dual camera, and this one takes away the pain of sticking the front camera by virtue of it being a mirror mount

The major difference between the two is in:
1) Frames per sec - 30 vs 60
2) Wide Angle of viewing - 105 vs 160 deg
3) Colour - Black vs Grey/Golden

I would suggest to write to Yi regarding the dashcams for further clarification.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Greetings brethren.

I ask the learned community for it's help with a query regarding dashcam installation.
The plot: I purchased a Viofo A119S and it has arrived with a sticker mount.
The twist: I'm planning to install 3M CR70 on the front windshield.
The happy ending: I install the dashcam after the CR70 installation and the CR70 will not peel off or wrinkle.
The okay ending: I install the dashcam and then proceed to install the CR70 by making a cutout in the film to accommodate the dashcam.
The satisfactory ending: I stick the dashcam onto a glass piece and then stick the piece onto the windshield. Sort of like how some users stick Fastags onto plastic pieces and then stick the sheet onto the windshield using Sellotape.
The bad ending: CR70 peels off (OR) CR70 becomes obviously visible to cops, who then proceed to harass me (OR) Dashcam falls off.

Also note: I got some spare adhesive stickers along with the package so I don't think that availability of spare tape is an issue; however, the reinstall could be cumbersome.

What do you feel might be the optimal way to proceed? Maybe there are more possibilities that I haven't thought of yet.
