re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

@anand- Panasonic and Samsung are the forerunners in plasma technology.

Samsung's image processing is superior with their newer 5 series plasma. So if you watch more of SD content do compare Samsung 5 series as well. But again it starts from 51 inches.

Also expect around 30% more power when compared to similar sized LEDs.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Thanks Guys (viper and mandheers and kevin),
I saw panasonic power usage as 345w as compared to 140w. So that is the only negative I see.
And yes in ezone LG plasma is indeed coming with this lucrative offer but I am bit more inclined to panasonic for its technical superiority.
What u guys suggest?how much should i negotiate for panasonic?

@anand

Panasonic 42V20 is priced at SGD 1100 in Singapore. Which translates to
INR 40000.

Panasonic 2011 models are out, which could be reason for the lower pricing.

Here 42V20 comes with dark grey bezel, which looks better than the usual understated looks of Panasonic.

Anand my Samsung 42" plasma which i got last year only consumes 200w so yes plasmas have come down in consuming electricity off late.
If you opt for a Plasma go for Panasonic 42v20 as its the best in 42 inches range and if its overbudget then look for a samsung one.
either ways you wont regret buying it!

Wow. Thanks harry and Kevin for fast reply.
Should I wait for 2011 models or get the 2010 one? (may be from a friend outside).
Any major benefit in new models of 2011?Also guys do let me know if taking 3d in plasma would be worth.

@anand

I think it is good to wait. All Samsung models for 2011 comes with 3D and 2D-3D capability. This is true with both HD and full HD models. Please check Singapore Samsung website for series 4 and 5.

As I mentioned before, in the latest TVs it is just not the panel alone but the electronics also play a crucial role. It is here Samsung wins over Panasonic.
They have better image upscaling and media playing capability.

Akshya1234 is getting is getting his 5 series plasma for 65K.

Since TV is a long term investment, I think it is worth the wait.

Plasma TV power consumption changes with the image (a full white screen takes the most amount of power). But LEDs/LCDs take almost the same amount of power irrespective of the image being displayed on the screen.

345 W is the max power that the Panasonic TV consumes. You can safely assume the average consumption to be around 200W. Ask Google and you should see a review with the actual power numbers on a calibrated display.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I can see on samsung india site there is a firmware upgrade for my plasma which is available.
Is it advisable to do it and what are the benefits of doing so as nothing else is mentioned there?

thought firmware update is risky business, but safe when you have a ups connected to system so that system does not goes down while update happens. Contact samsung service center for the same.

I do not have a ups connected however my plasma works on the inverter so no tension of power going off between the update.

However i wanna know what is the benefit of the update?
