The need will change for sure the data plan is too less for 3G. One or two FaceTime calls and you will be all out.
Also there are numerous apps for you to SMS and stay connected. Cheers!
Most of the times i m at my home with a wifi connection, so on the move its just the mail sync, or other notification, some facebooking that's it.

To be frank i have used facetime just 2 times that too just for the sake of trying it.
There are people here who don't even use iMessage.
I asked one of my friends to activate iMessage, he actually asked me how to activate iMessage

Finally what he said was " yaar chod na whats app hai na"

Hehehe

However, if you have jail broken your iPhone then there are patches available that allows you to do FaceTime on 3G.
Are you sure FaceTime is allowed over 3G on a non JB device? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FaceTime#section_2

Sorry, stupid auto correction of my iPhone changed NOT to Now. NO, FaceTime is NOT allowed on 3G in USA on non JB devices, though I am not aware of Indian scenario.

Thanks for pointing the correction.

re: The iPhone Thread

How can one unlock an AT&T iPhone 4S ? I believe there was something called a turbo sim that was the easiest way to do it without any software tweaks. Please give a link where I can order this chip.

I'd rather not do any software cracks are I do not want to loose the USA warranty

Yeah I know, the iPhone auto correct makes horrendous corrections at times. FaceTime does not work on 3G unless the phone is JBed - irrespective of where you are geographically.

Just go to following website and order turbo sim. You don't have to JB, it's plug and play kind of thing.

Apple N Berry | Your iPhone Repair and iPhone Unlock Specialists
Thanks. This is what I would need for the iphone 4s i presume: Apple N Berry | GEVEY

Is this the best out there or there are any alternatives?

Anyone using this on the latest iphone 4s OS in India? Is one restricted from doing software updates when using this?

Yes, this is the one that you should order. My dad is using the same on his 4s and I also use the same while I am in India on my 4s. As far as software upgrade is concerned, my dad upgraded from iOS 5.0 to iOS 5.1 and so far no issues.

re: The iPhone Thread

Pardon my ignorance. Is this unlock thing mentioned here is something specific to iPhones purchased from the US? Asked because, every second post in this thread on phone unlocking, jailbreaking etc.

The iPhones we have here (in Singapore) does not have a problem like this. I can buy an iPhone directly from the Apple store, or from any of the mobile service provider and switch around without any problem. And it works without any trouble when I go to India and put in a local (micro)sim e.g.; airtel.

Here in USA (and in Europe as well), phones are heavily subsidized by cell phone service providers. So iPhone 4S that would cost you $600 in Apple Store will cost you only $200 if you buy it from AT&T or Verizon and for that you have to sign 2 years contract along with monthly data plan above your contacted minutes. But the contracted handsets are locked to specific network and you have to unlock the handset to use it on other networks.

Thanks Nitrous Power. Its quite the case here as well. The iPhone 4s 16GB I recently got is around SGD 900 in the Apple store, but it came free with a two year contract with SGD 90 monthly subscription, and I think it costs around SGD 250 for a 2 yr plan with SGD 50 monthly subscription.

Probably it comes unlocked here because the prices are kind of regulated (maybe slight variations) among the service providers, and all providers have rights to sell iPhone with a plan.

Well, the regulation is that all phones in Singapore have to be unlocked.
