I have an iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 11 pro. I wouldn’t say 11 pro’s camera setups have any specific advantage compared to the 12. In fact the low light pictures are better with the 12. That said, I do miss the 3rd camera (telephoto) on my 12 mini, and I feel that’s where the 11 pro scores over 12/12 mini.
So decide based on what kind of photos your wife clicks; coming from XR, both these phones will be a proper upgrade – just that the pro models will feel like a big leap due to the 3 camera setup. Even better will be if you can go with the 12 pro

Thanks for your feedback. For sure the iPhone 12 seems to have great reviews for its camera! If I’m not wrong, the iPhone 11 pro’s additional telephoto camera is more useful for zoom? Or am I wrong here? If this additional telephoto lens does not offer a great advantage then the iPhone 12 with 5G makes better sense overall I think.

anyone has faced the same issue so far. not sure whether my charging pattern is wrong or wireless charger has done adverse effect on battery.
I always keep the Optimized Battery Charging ON only.
After battery calibration, current battery max capacity has been increased to 86%, still it's not a normal battery capacity for a 1.5 years iPhone 11 Pro. Do I have a chance to change the battery under warranty in apple center.

In that case go with the 12, you have the 5G advantage and the brilliant screen (unlike the XR or the 11, the screen across the 12 range is same). My daughter switched from XR to 12 and she's super happy with it.

The Telephoto lens is ONLY a zoom camera. Basically it maintains the picture quality when you zoom in, that’s it.

You are better off buying the 12, it is more future proof.

Just a tip, whichever iPhone you pick please opt for the 128 GB variant. Turst me, that 64 GB will blowout in a few weeks if photography is the primary function of your iPhone. That additional 5k is definitely worth it if you retain your phone for 3 years or so.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the iPhone 11 Pro doesnt come in 128gb. iPhone 12 does, so if there is a requirement for upgrading the storage, iPhone 11 Pro should be ruled out.

Correct. What I meant was to avoid the 64 GB variant in any of the new iPhone models. Anything above that should be preferred; 128 GB at minimum.

Pro max since its quite big in size, has three cameras and probably works better for my wife’s usage. The only flip side seems to be that the iPhone 11 series is not compatible with 5G, so if we are going to hold on to this phone for another 3 years, and 5G may be rolled out in the next 1-2 years, right? Or are we still a long way away from 5G roll out?

Secondly, is there a big advantage to the 11 pro’s camera, when compared to the 12?
I would suggest you to get the iPhone 12 as it has a better camera and newer when compared to 11 Pro Max despite having 2 cameras and takes much better pictures in Night Mode when compared to 11 Pro Max as well! The only difference is you will be missing telephoto in 12 when compared to 11 Pro Max but, still, the 12 takes much better pictures than 11 Pro Max!

I would suggest you to get the iPhone 12 with 128GB storage!

I'm also in the same conundrum as well whether to go for iPhone 12 or 12 Pro as I'm upgrading from iPhone XS, which I'm using since 19 months and the camera is the top priority for me as I love photography though my iPhone XS is not bad at taking pictures!

Re: The iPhone Thread

I have an iphone 12pro 256GB, have an icloud also of 400gb space, but still get nervous about accidently losing the treasure trove of memories, how do you guys keep a backup of the photos and video, can it be done automatically using some app from the desktop wirelessly?

Thanks for your suggestions. It does look like that the iPhone 12 is a better bet. I was leaning a bit towards the iPhone 11 Pro Max, since I felt a bigger screen would sort of help my wife’s usage pattern, and second I was sort of hoping that this becomes the default camera when we travel, especially when you want to zoom at certain objects or locations. And another thing was that I’m probably going to upgrade to the iPhone 12 later, may be next year since I dont have an immediate need for upgrade as yet. So if my wife has the iPhone 11 Pro Max I was thinking it can be used for multiple camera modes during travel etc. But there are 2 flip sides to the 11 pro max, one, it’s not available in reliable sources like reliance digital or even most Apple authorised dealers, and only on Amazon. Second, the lack of 5G means you need to upgrade again in 2 years time. Anyway with the lockdown in place, no orders or deliveries are possible, so will have to wait it out.

There are many ways to do this. I backup a lot of compressed files, videos, images and system images in a Linux Network File System (NFS) which has a RAID. I keep upgrading the disks over the years. One RAID disk is stored in a bank locker. Multiple redundancy is mandatory for my line of work. So my personal files are also safely tucked away.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Looks like Apple is manipulating the battery capacity in the latest 14.5.1 update. My iPhone 11 battery’s maximum capacity was reported as 95% before the update. Now it has jumped to 99%.

Feels good regardless.

Update: Completed 6.5 months with the new battery and health reduced to 93%. I noticed it stayed at 100% for pretty long (maybe 4months+) but last month sometime it was 96% and today it showed another 3% less. So I guess the wear will be quicker now. Never the less really impressed with the performance of 6s. Updated to 14.5.1. SOT weekly average is ~4hours.

My wife’s 6 battery which was replaced 2020 February is at 92% now after 1.3 years. Had planned to upgrade to 12 mini as I thought apple would stop giving updates to this one but it just got an update (12.5.3)

Was wondering what this message meant? In my case before and after the update, the battery stands at 96%. Any pointers will help.
