Am looking to do away my LG 1 ton window unit and thinking of switching over to a better unit, preferably Japanese. Looking at Hitachi RAW511KUD/KTD and OGeneral OG-12WA4 for the same. I know the market has changed drastically now and so has the technology. Should I stick with a 5 star rated unit? I want to purchase the best, recommends will be mighty appreciated as always.
Stick with 5 Star, in our case it reduced the consumption by 30% over 3 star unit.

Just check the power consumption ratings, even though there are a lot of 5 stars, some consume more than others.

Thank you Aroy. Am getting inclined towards the OG because of the output. They have not mentioned its star rating though. Tricky!

Just check the power consumption at full load. The lower it is (for a given tonnage) the better it is.

The General has a power consumption of 1310 and the Hitachi is rated at 1030. General has an EER of 2.6 compared to the 3.4 of the Hitachi. Cooling capacity of General is 3400 vs 3500 of the Hitachi.

Hitachi is obviously better. Very likely that General is Reciprocating compressor for the gulf!

I have a Hitachi 5*, excellent but a bit noisy.

It is given the output. How noisy is it? Am getting inclined towards the OGeneral given their decades worth of repute.

A bit more than my 11 year old Videocon rotaries. I will take Hitachi, since the EER is far better. Incidentally it is General and not OGeneral. O is mistaken for the logo.

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

I'm planning to get an inverter AC and after some research thinking of LG inverter V 1.5T. It seems to have the best EER of 3.67. They are quoting 50k including installation and stabilizer. Do anyone had a better deal or there any other options that i should look at.

What are the units of measurement used against these figures?

General reciprocating model is available only against specific & paid in advance orders, I doubt any dealer would quote these upfront.

Products for 'Gelf' are not built in ETA's Indian facility.

Any other make is a better deal than LG or Samsung for that matter as long as we are talking about air conditioners.

Re: The Home Appliance thread

This thread has a discussion on ACs with heat pumps for twin operating modes (cooling/heating) which is very educative. However, I am curious about the following:- 1. How do the owners rate their performance in the heating mode? 2. Any thoughts on how these ACs would perform in Delhi's severe winters? Any recommended models for a 1.5 Ton rating? Thanks

@jacksons; I will avoid the second and third tier brands. Also, avoid R22 units.

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

I would also avoid the lesser brands. There is a reason why premium brands are more expensive. Try to remain within Daikin, Hitachi and LG for split AC in Delhi.
