GTO,

You can try two options:

1) Get a universal remote - some like the one for all range and try the following codes for JBL
JBL Soundbar 4 Digit Remote Control Codes:
4001
5009
6050

JBL Soundbar 5 Digit Remote Control Codes:
30110
30281
31306
32241

2) There is a JBL soundbar app ni playstore - Maybe try that.

Hope this helps.

He could buy another soundbar for a little more than the cost of that remote.

This app thing might be the best option.

Cheaper than a universal remote is a phone with an IR blaster like this Xiaomi Mi A3. Stick a Jio card in it and it can double as a Jio connection (hot spot).

Re: The Home Theater thread

This outdated model was $82 in the bin. Since it can handle scores of equipment, in the longer run, its worth

IF GTO was buying a new soundbar, he would buy something more current. New models might NOT offer any better sound than the old soundbar, but they would offer more features/codecs. Today you can get bars like the Yamaha YSP-5600 (Yamahas DSP is the granddaddy of all DSPs) or the Samsung HW-N950 (VFM beast with bass that is unreal for a soundbar but it does lack some definition and clarity) that have ATMOS.

Re: The Home Theater thread

It is amazing to see the line of Gizmo with fellow BHPians which generally adorn the Showrooms.

In comparison to all these, I have a small collection of old equipment, though it was in fashion in its era. Maybe, some of you would recognize these in dumps now.

The Set up now

The Home Theater thread-b-01.jpg

'Pioneer' Ampli-Deck Twin Cassette Deck with separate Tuner section
(System purchased in 1994)

The Home Theater thread-b-02.jpg

Turntable

The Home Theater thread-b-03.jpg

6 CD Changer

The Home Theater thread-b-04.jpg

'Panasonic' VCR

'Sony' Digital Video Player with USB slot. It's audio input goes to Ampli-Deck for daily use and Video to TV. HDMI connected to AV Receiver.

The Home Theater thread-b-05.jpg

'Pioneer' AV Receiver

The Home Theater thread-b-06.jpg

'Pioneer' Mic Mixer (3 Mic Input)

The Home Theater thread-b-07.jpg

'Pioneer' Speakers compatible with System

The Home Theater thread-b-08.jpg

'JVC' Home Theatre which has seen better days. The Deck Mechanism went kaput that caused the demise of the System. Installed a cheap USB Player Card with its 'Input' to the System and is used for 'Not so Important' playback.

The Home Theater thread-b-09.jpg

Woofer Speaker of the Home Theatre.

The Home Theater thread-b-10.jpg

Wall mounted Front - Rear (Left - Right) Speakers of JVC Home Theatre hooked up with AV Receiver. All concealed wiring was done during construction of house with this requirement in mind.

The Home Theater thread-b-11.jpg

A set of Speakers for Rough Use. Carry away anywhere, generally hooked up with JVC System

.

Would have posted this in 'Vintage' Audio, if there had been any such thread.

I built a couple of systems some years ago but today the TVs, the AVRs, and the headphones have changed and the obsolete Wii have been discarded. Instead, I have added Google Wifi and a Asus VivoPC based Media player.

Thanks for the advice and guidance. Having put Hundreds of Cassettes (High quality) and CD / DVD in the drain (and burnt the money spent on them), I feel I have lost the race with Technology and have withdrawn. I do not want to invest any more in it. In family, both of my daughters are in USA and just me and my wife here in Delhi. Having seen 65 winters, I do not feel any need to invest any more money in electronics.
Being content with what I have is a strong quality in me that I can boast of.
Regards,

Are those Seas Excel drivers that I see in your main system? I can also spot a couple of Marantz SA units in the rack.

Very neat looking setup.

Sharp eyes you got!

Yes, my living room system uses SEAS Excel woofers and midranges coupled to a Fountek CD3.0 tweeter.

I will let you figure out what the drivers in my bedroom system are!

Regards,
Fantastic. Love the woodwork of that custom cabinet though.

My first pair of loudspeakers were the AR 2ax. In those days they used real wood to make loudspeakers and your cabinet reminded me of these loudspeakers.

If you want to control it from your phone (rather than getting another remote), I recommend this device.

It's a small little IR blaster that you can position somewhere in the room, and trigger via a phone app.

You can even set a widget/button on your phone homescreen to control whatever it is you want to for faster access.

Copy-pasting my post from another thread:

The range is awesome.

I use it to control my Air Conditioners. (Or anything IR - like TV, Home threater, Fan, etc).

One thing i like doing is having it automatically turn off the AC an hour before I have to wake up.

Note that there's TWO Broadlink apps that it works with. You can use either one: e-Control / ihc (Intelligent Home Control)

Via the IHC app, it integrates perfectly well with Google Home (haven't tried Alexa).

If you use Tasker on Android - get RM Plugin Lite - super easy integration there too.

More detailed info at this link : https://www.banggood.com/Broadlink-B..._warehouse=USA

The only thing you'll need to do is "capture" the JBL Soundbar codes somehow. Either by borrowing someone else's remote, or ideally just downloading it from Broadlink's online database.

EDIT: I might also have one of these I can give you, but would have to search for it at home.

Those Super Drive Panasonic VCR's were unique and brilliant. The best of the Japanese players though many say Akai made better VCR's. These super drive units used to pull the tape onto the head and keep them read for play back. No delay whatsoever. You hit play and picture was instantaneous on your TV. Forward and Rewind speeds were super fast too. If I recall right, it look less than a minute to rewind a 180 minute tape and the mechanism was such that it sensed the end so it would not snap the tape.

That's no Woodwork. It's one of those units you buy off the shelf at IKEA or like and made of compressed particle board. I had bought and assembled it while living in Dubai. Disassembled it and brought it to India when moving back. Yes, it is a lovely piece.

The pic isn't very clear, but the midrange looks like an Accuton. The rest I can't identify.
