Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

@cpbopanna; I think in the current scenario a 4G model may be worthwhile. But will note the preference for S5.

One point, my htc One uses a Micro-SIM. Are adapters available for putting the micro-SIM into a full SIM phone. Also, what is the current scene regarding SIM usage.

Hello sgiitk,
yes, adapters (micro to full, nano to full and nano to micro) are available on most of the local mobile / sim shops.
i bought set of 3 adapters for 70 rupees last year.

I paid 37k for the 4G model in November, but the phone is awesome, different internals compared to the 3G model!
Main requirement is camera, she is not a heavy data user, so 4G was not a consideration.

Airtel uses a 128k SIM for 4G, which is currently available only in Bangalore (in Karnataka). The 4G speeds are mind-blowing, some times up to 50 MBps!

Yes you are correct, the one Samsung is shipping in India supports 3G only. The major difference I find is in the processor. While the one in the US runs on a Sanpdragon 801 which has 4G LTE support, the India version uses an Octa core Exynos which does not support 4G.

Please remember that even if it is called OCTA core, its actually a combo of two QUAD core processors. One high powered and one low powered. It actually works like a load balancer. Not all the eight cores are used at a time.

Yes sir. I should have written in a little more detail. What I also should have specified is that the single and multi-core scores of the Exynos is much lower as compared to the Snapdragon 801.

The 4G model was sold in India for a brief period, the model is SM-G900I as against the 3G model - SM-G900H.
The price difference was just 2k!

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Last week I sold my 5 month old Moto X (2nd Gen) and got myself a One Plus One - 64GB.

Good decision eh ?

Why NC. Isn't the Moto X Gen 2 better built than the one plus and Moto will get real quick updates.

Do you feel any major differences between the two.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hmm, I will say yes only because you moved from one big screen device to another.

I moved from a Moto G 2nd Gen to the 1+1 a month back and even though the new screen is super sharp & clear I miss the handy 4.7" screen size of the Moto G2.

Though I must say that the fit and finish of the phone, especially the sand stone surface on the back are absolutely top class. Just the way the display pops on the 5+" screen is a conversation starter.

Help me understand this better.

Even though the wife has the 1+ I think the moto is clearly the better phone, easier to hold, far better camera, better audio and guaranteed updates etc.

But Moto G2 has a 5 inch screen.

Last week I started looking for a 15K replacement for my 2 year old phone, and today bought a 25K replacement for my wife's one year old phone.

Quest for my phone is still on, mostly Moto G2.

Were you feeling suicidal?

But seriously good choice. Your Moto X was 16GB so the 64GB 1+1 makes sense. If you had the 32GB Moto X then no point in changing.

How is the touch screen? I recommended a colleague the 1+1 and found the touch screen sensitivity was lesser, needed a firmer push vs the Moto X.

Just get the 1+1!! Forget everything else. You will take 2 days to get used to the size.
