This gives a good explanation:

Homerun with the OP3T in terms of value and Samsung wins on dirt/water resistance, camera and display.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Thank you all, decided to go with OP3T. Phone should be arriving on Tuesday. With a 20K price difference, I decided to take a hit on camera and invest the same on a prime SLR lens in the future.

Problem is that you might not have the SLR in your pocket! But, of course, in the real world we can't have everything, must fix priorities.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

You get an additional 10% off if you order directly from samsung, which you wont get when you order via amazon. So, the price difference in reality is more like 15k at the moment. Camera is not that much a priority for me. Hence decided take a hit on that. The water and dust resistance would have been nice.

The main reason to go via OP3T is warranty even with root (Hello, ad-free life), which you wont get with Samsung.

This is going to be a direct competitor of the Redmi Note 4, though it would cost a bit more due to the pure android experience it provides. I think it will be worth the money.

Moto G5 Plus has the same processor as the Z Play but the Z Play has a bigger screen and Moto Mods. Unless those are required, I think Moto G5 Plus might be a better option, as it is likely to be much cheaper than Z play, but with the same performance. Especially if you prefer a slightly smaller form factor. We have to wait and see if there's any significant difference in the camera or other areas to justify whatever the final price difference might be.

Cost more to provide pure android experience!! Shouldn't it be the other way round, cost more to provide an additional interface / customization over pure android?

Absolutely what I thought: why would the manufacturer charge more for something that costs less? But hey, marketing. Pure Android Experience!

No experience in this field, but I'm guessing that the manufacturer is always going to have to provide the firmware and device drivers that make any android work on their hardware. They are also going to provide a certain amount of what some people might use and others might call bloat, depending on their wants. For example, according to me, my phone is not primarily an interface to Google, and I do not want search bars on the home screen, nor do I want to be able to talk to Google by addressing my phone: others might call these facilities an essential part of the smart-phone experience.

I don't know what Moto (Lenovo, I suppose) adds to G or Z series. On my X Play, I guess I've disabled some things, but there was useful stuff too.

OBD Car Doctor has been my trusted companion for the last two years. Its not the best, but does the job fairly well. Here are a few others available in the Google Play Store. Take your pick.
