Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hello Guys,

Was looking for a good VFM option and have shortlisted "Karbon A21 or Micromax Canvas 2 A110", am not much a "brand" follower so the brand value does not matter to me, however reliability aspect does matter, both the specs look good to me and i am slowly leaning towards the Micromax.

Please do suggest if it makes sense to take the plunge? btw i read loads of good reviews(flipkart) on both esp MM has lot of positive feedback.

Hey lohith, I have the A110 and it's a great phone. Only cons so far is bad camera especially in low light, and some apps such as compass don't work on it. Pros include great display, battery life and great looks. Most people mistake it for the note. Great value for money.

Thanks lalvaz, that instils some confidence in me but the "compass" app not working disappoints me :( that's one of the apps i was keen to use.

I intend to use this phone as a "navigational" device aswel, hope this phone scores well here?

Hi folks
Just wanted to tell you about this application. Srt app guard - it can be used to edit permission settings for other applications. The process is not straightforward, the application need to be installed first, then app guard will instrument it, then you need to un install the app and install it again. App guard will guide this process.

You can use this app to prevent some ad-wares from accessing network at all, I had used this app to secure whatsapp on my tablet to prevent it from reading the phone state so that it works in my wifi only tablet. Great use.

Can this app be used to control an app running in the background and connecting to the 3G network when on roaming for instance? I am looking for something that I can use to control this - very annoying when my phone connects to mail when I dont want to read any!

For this purpose, I find LBE Privacy Guard to be amazing yet simple to use. Check out this thorough review of the app -

Just bought an A110, Micromax Canvas 2. Initial impressions are bloody awesome. Blazing fast, decent screen, clear voice clarity in calls and good battery backup. That it has a low SAR value is an added bonus.

I think, you can simply use a firewall and limit the network usage of mail to wifi only. You need to be rooted though.

Something is rally eating up the battery. You need to you need to do some selective disabling of apps to check which one is the culprit.

Have you tried installing apps, and hope most of the apps are compatible on it? remember reading some had issues with "whatsapp" installation.

Btw how much did you pick it for?

Thanks lohith. Yeah all apps that worked in my Arc S are also working absolutely fine on this. Temple run, highway rider, whatsapp included.

Smart tools compass does not work as there is no magnetometer.

I picked it up for 10k.

Let us know your experience after you get yours.

Bad app. My phone kept restarting after installing this app. Luckily un-installed the app before it rebooted again.

Phone: GNex 4.1.2 JB
