Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

After the Oreo on my S8 I am not seeing the various language / script and keyboard options. What has happened. I want Devanagri back, esp on WhatsApp.

You should be able to install additional languages from the settings. Have you checked on that?

As suggested above, you can definitely add Keyboards however i would suggest adding Hindi Transliteration (Lipyantaran) for faster typing in Hindi. For this you need to have Gboard installed.

I am a little confused over Honor's strategy in releasing very similarly specd phones back to back with similar names as well and keeping both in the market in parallel:

Here is what a comparison on GSM Arena reveals: URL

Specs of Honor 10 on the left and Honor View 10 on the right hand side
Display : 5.84 inch vs 5.99 Inch
Screen Protection : Gorilla Glass vs No Gorilla Glass
OS : Android 8.1 vs Android 8.0
Expansion : No Card Slot vs Hybrid MicroSD
Battery : 3400 mAH vs 3750 mAH
Secondary Camera : 24 MP, f/2.0, 1080p vs 13 MP, f/2.0
Primary Camera : 16 MP (f/1.8) + 24 MP B/W (f/1.8) vs 16 MP (f/1.8) + 20 MP B/W + 2x Lossless Zoom

Looks like this is Honor's strategy to have their phones sold thru both Amazon and Flipkart and each of them can also claim to sell the phone exclusively as well

In both cases, HDR was ON. The colors in actual scene (as seen by me) was closer to Camera Pro's (1st image). However, Google camera app's image (which is slightly darker) looks better.

Thanks for the heads up, manson. Did the update yesterday night.

Still sticking to the stock Nokia camera. Good enough for my use.

I found that the keyboard selection is on the bottom right, and no longer accessible from the spacebar. So things are kosher now.

I prefer the 1st image by Nokia Cam, but then I prefer brighter everything.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

How do the specs stock up on the new Nokia 2.1 series of phones launched? Due in India by July I guess, and maybe a sticker price of less than 8k.

Would this phone be good enough for light usage = Whatsapp + Banking applications only?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I'm looking to upgrade from my OnePlus X and am keenly looking at the OnePlus 6.

However, of late i.e. since today, I've been distracted a lot by the new Nokias. The 7Plus at 25k looks very appealing. My usage pattern is as follows:
- Calls maximum 1 hour per day
- Quite a lot of Whatsapp
- Huge PDF files (e-book s) close to 500 MB are accessed daily. My OP X is very slow when searching for something particular in a big PDF file. I'd love that to improve in my new phone
- A nice camera would be appreciated, but not too keen on the finer details
- Quite a lot of YouTube and video streaming

Does it make sense to invest 40k in the OnePlus 6 or would the Nokia 7 Plus suffice for my usage? Views and opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is it worth to opt for extended warranty for S8+ whose std 1 Yr warranty will be expiring in 20 days.

Amount for the same is 4K+.

Planning to keep it for another year or so..

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Is there a way to stop EOCN (End Of Call Notification) in Airtel prepaid. I switched from postpaid to prepaid 4 months back after confirming that EOCN does not pop-up after calls if you are in the unlimited prepaid plans but for the past 2 days it has suddenly started showing up and it's kind of irritating. Any help to stop/hide EOCN will be appreciated.

One can turn this feature (annoyance, really) off via the SIM Toolkit app, I'm told. Not sure of the exact incantation required.

Alternately there are several USSD handling apps on the Play Store. Eg:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...idsole.ussdnot

(Use the app to convert those to notifications and then deny notification permission).

This did not work with Galaxy S7. I'll try the app way now. Airtel CC says it can't be stopped from their end.
