That's great!!

The link also says :

"Skoda Kodiaq in India is likely to face a tough competition by Ford Endeavour and Isuzu MU-X while Octavia RS is expected to be priced at Rs 20 lakh. "

I wish Kodiaq to be another pricing bombshell after Jeep Compass! To be somewhere around MU-X..

I would expect the Kodiaq to be priced higher than the Superb, so around 30L ex-showroom at the very least for the base trim. As per the website, it sits over the Superb in terms of positioning.

As for the vRS, 20L ex showroom is wishful thinking, unless the vRS is basically an option to the Style Plus (Similar to BMW Sportline v/s luxury line in the 3 series) with similar engine, different alloys, all black interior, and a body kit. If they bring it with a more powerful engine, it will be more expensive as IIRC only the A6 2.0TFSi has a bigger engine in the VWAG India line up, and the volumes don't allow for economies of scale.
Also seeing the Polo GTi pricing, I doubt they would be allowed to sell a faster/more powerful and better equipped sedan for the same price.

re: The Skoda Kodiaq. EDIT: Now launched at Rs 34.49 lakhs

After being disappointed with the Tiguan pricing I wonder if should I want for Kodiaq.

Europe pricing of Tiguan and Kodiaq are in the similar lines. So 30L plus is what we should expect.

And a 190BHP Kodiaq could be priced way higher than Tiguan.

If the Superb is anything to go by, the Kodiaq will be better equipped and will have a better engine too.
Therefore I wouldn't expect them to launch it at anything similar to the Tiguan pricing, but at a slight premium to the Tiguan (esp as it is a bigger 7 seater vehicle too, with more space).

True.

In other markets like the UK - Kodiaq is priced 10% higher than the Superb. Starting prices for Kodiaq ranges from 22,190 wheras the Superb starts at a lower 20,050 price range.

Here in India, Superb is priced starting 24L till around 31L.

So the Kodiaq might not be cheaper than 27L ex-showroom for its entry level variant. The range could be from 27L ex-showroom to 35L ex-showroom.

Volkswagen is a more premium brand than Skoda, and similar products have different pricing. In fact Tiguan commands higher sticker price than Kodiak, though marginally in Europe.

Agree with you on that, but the better specs & features will make it more premium.

Like I said, the Skoda website itself suggests the Kodiaq will be more premium to the Superb, and the Superb & Tiguan diesels are priced pretty similarly.

re: The Skoda Kodiaq. EDIT: Now launched at Rs 34.49 lakhs

Isn't Rapid cheaper than Vento? A Czech company (though owned by VW) can't ask for German premium price.

Not that German is any better, but it is the supremacy German commands.

Also my statement was based on the price comparison in Europe.

I too expect Kodiaq will be priced slightly above Superb. Tiguan price starts almost the level at which Superb price ends. As per my theory, Kodiaq can't ask for more than 1L premium over Tiguan for the 3rd row seat they offer. However if they offer a better engine tune, it may be 3-4L premium overall. Still the top-end has to be priced under 34L.

The Kodiaq for India will come with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that will deliver 140hp. This is the same motor that is also seen under the hood of the Volkswagen Tiguan.

That's a disappointment!

Not getting the logic why VW is detuning their premium cars wheras the cheaper ones like the Octavia get a better state of tune.

Are the Octavia, Tiguan and Kodiaq on the exact same engines? Maybe the emission scrutiny on them is the reason for the 140 bhp tuning ?

Very disappointed to read this. I was looking forward to a 170bhp type engine at least in the presumably bigger (to Tiguan) sized Kodiaq.

Skoda is really delaying the Kodiaq launch and just teaser information will not keep people excited enough to keep waiting. The engine while only 150 Bhp, should offer decent performance and mileage as the weight of the Kodiaq should be around 1600kg. But it would have been great if they offered the higher tune of the engine instead!
