Mahindra should have designed a removable front part of the hard top above the front seats, just like the Wrangler. This way, there would not be any problem of water leaking into the cabin as well people would get a nice feel of open top driving. I hope someone from Mahindra reads this and implements this option which shouldn't be too hard.

Probably they were merely quoting whatever Mahindra told them to say; which makes me believe that Mahindra outright lied.

New vs. old comparison (Source: Review vlog by Evo India)

1. Approach angle: 42 degrees vs. 44
2. Departure angle: 37 degrees vs. 27
3. Ramp-over angle: 27 degrees vs. 15 degrees
4. Ground clearance: 226 mm vs. 200mm
5. Water wading: 650mm vs. 550mm
6. Torque (Diesel): 300 NM @ 1600-2800 rpm vs. 247 NM @1800-2000 rpm
7. Power: 130bhp @ 3750 rpm vs. 105 bhp @ 3800 rpm

If these numbers are correct, I don't see why reviewers calling the 'new Thar better than the old one' is a problem or such a big issue. Other than the approach angle the new Thar has improved (on paper) on every other aspect it seems.

Basically. a sun roof!

Yeah, would have been great to add to the whims of having this as a "Lifestyle" vehicle. I wonder why M&M did not.

Other than approach angle, I think you meant to say. That too will improve with an off-road or metal bumper.

Relating to the same video, the water glass test says it all in terms of suspension. I guess the new Thar's ride comfort seems to be in line with most other Suv out there.

Re: The 2020 next-gen Mahindra Thar : Driving report on page 86

Found out something on the Thar official website, the AX and AX Opt shall be available in the Red and Black colour options only, tried a few combinations, these are the only 2 colour options.

I still rue the fact that petrol Manual is not available with a Hard Top and why the petrol, thanks to the NGT ruling in NCR. Cannot live with the soft top for 10 years, maybe a couple would make sense.

After owning the Optra & Hexa in the past and having test driven the Harrier, Rapid and Duster 1.3 in the past 2 weeks, I'm pinning my hopes on a right price for the Thar, as the 3 stated above do not make the cut for the price and feel they offer.

Having said that, looking at the pricing of the Scorpio, XUV3OO and other products from the Mahindra stable, I am safely assuming this to be 12-16 ex-showroom, though Anand Mahindra keeps his generosity publicised on various platforms, when it comes to pricing his vehicles, he is nowhere close to being generous.

Why is a carpet dimwitted? One can always remove it. Most owners will never need to. Carpets in a hard top vehicle...don't think it's stupid at all. A manufacturer will make for the majority, while the minority is free to to remove stuff they don't like. Not rocket science

The idea that the exposed hinges somehow convey the impression of being rugged/badass is well, passé and of course mostly perpetuated by Jeep (they decided to retain it on the newer JL as well).

This is one more area that is an impending rust magnet especially in areas with more than average precipitation besides hindering the possible clean lines on the door.

In the grand scheme of things this design element (among many others) ostensibly keeps the Thar closer to its Jeep heritage (or so it seems that the design team at Mahindra & a majority of Thar’s potential owners would like to believe).

He is quite generous when it comes to tweeting, well pricing is a different ball game altogether. Small margins, higher volumes = bigger profits. They have already won creating a desirability quotient for this product, pricing will be a key factor to get actual sales figures.

Tomes have been written about the exposed door hinges in a Jeep - essentially on legacy/ heritage/ design element oozing ruggedness and masculinity etc. Wasn't focussing on that.

If you look at the design of the hinge itself it seems to be one where one can remove the door by just pulling it up.

Nope. Have a close look at the hinge design. It has 3 sections. Two equal ones at the top and at the bottom there is a small section say about .2 of an inch.
So either the nut in the hinge is threaded or heat riveted.
So I don't thing it can be lifted off.

Also I don't remember where but I saw a pic of a Thar without the doors. The hinges were present there which means that the bolts of the hinge where is is attached to the body has to be removed.

Taking a close look is the problem right now! So if someone could oblige.

Missed out on the small bottom part in the pictures I saw.

Wonder why the shift from the Bolero door hinges.

Here. Found a picture on this thread itself. Shows the hinge in a pretty close view. Have a look.

OK. The bottom 'retainer' is visible. Might be the head of the pin which is pushed in from the bottom, in which case something is holding the pin in place preventing it from falling out.

Same here. Last night, I briefly left the family room where the news was on, to watch Sirish's offroading video. I have NEVER done this for any other car. Have fallen for this Jeep, hook + line + sinker. Trust me, it is taking enormous willpower to wait a year (or two) for my Thar.
