Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I might be the odd one here.

The exterior design looks, at least, a decade old and already appears to be begging for a refresh.

It, clearly, looks dated.

IMHO, the Harrier, Safari, even the 700 look much more modern than the 'N'.

Please do note, that I'm not talking about the interiors, features, value, price, etc. Just the design.

I know Pratap Bose has come, and how good the next designs are going to be.

I am glad, this is the last one of the current crop.

So, after Shark and Cheetah, there is one more addition to the zoo!

Jokes aside, the SUV has nice blend of conservative and modern design elements. Just need to see how the pricing comes out to be.

I second your opinion. It doesn't look modern as it should. For me, it's more of a Xylo facelift than Scorpio. The curvy front reminds me of first gen Fortuner.

I just hope it looks much better in person than these pictures.

And regarding the name Scorpio-N, let them name it whatever, Scorpio fans don't care. It's going to be a success.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I like the design, simple and suave. Greatly relieved it does not carry xuv700 like teeths, moustache or whatever it is
This seems to be a no nonsense design except the media agency who made this crapy theme.
Look forward to knowing mechanicals, specially 4X4 capability and basic comfort and feature.
If priced right this will be my bluebird's replacement

I like the front and side design. Will wait for the rear pics though for final judgement. Need to check the space and features on offer along with the biggest daddy of all - Pricing.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

The front three quarter has a Land Cruiser/Prado like stance with some front-head similarity like Alturas. And that isn't bad. Looking forward for proper unveil with rear and interiors.

Despite the 'baap hua hai' cringe statement, it definitely will cement its position in belts where people buy scorpios in huge numbers to establish their image as 'baap'. Mahindra PR might be cringy but always targets the right target audience.

This was my reaction too as soon as I saw the pics. I somehow like the look of Alturas G4 and am liking this look too. Although ny gut feeling says Mahindra team will mess up the rear design of Scorpio(Daddy)

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

The front end looks pretty impressive, I mean the old Scorpio had seriously run its course and did it well. But I wonder why none of the press images feature the rear end

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

The name "Scorpio N" is given to differentiate it from the old generation model.
Because I suspect that Mahindra may continue selling the old model alongside because the fan following is still huge.
But I don't think the old gen model will be kept for sale for too long due to:
1) More features arriving in new model.
2) Safety!!! = I'm simply thinking that Mahindra is trying for 5-star GNCAP rating for the new one. If it does score 4/5 stars, then old model sales would become diluted soon (only by safety conscious people when in comparison to the new). Anyways, the new one is still going to score better than the old one (going by their recent model safety ratings including XUV 700).

Also, for folks confused about addition of 'N'.
IMO, there's no issue as it's just an addition to the model name but not a separate division that you see, i.e. M from BMW, N from Hyundai.

Just like XUV500, the old Scorpio will be discontinued after a while.

--------------------------------

Both the Scorpio and Safari have a huge huge change in body style when we think of yesteryear models.
Tata and Mahindra were playing it 'safe' till now with their designs but time has come to bring a change to them.
2022 is the year we're seeing the changes after almost 2 decades.
Personal view: I still miss old Safari style. Classic design. Still remember the 90s model.

The press release makes it very clear. The current generation will continue to soldier on as Scorpio Classic.

"The current Scorpio which has evolved over the last two decades as an iconic and a cult brand will continue as the ‘Scorpio Classic’."

And I do not see many of the 3-row monocoque crossovers (referring to Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and the Mahindra XUV700) having any boot space either. So, I do not think the chassis entirely decides a car's boot space.
You are right of course. I don't know what the original poster meant, but, overall length, wheelbase and space between the rows probably determine how much space there is behind the third row.

For off-roading, shorter wheel base cars are preferred but ground clearance also matters to provide reasonable breakover angles as longer cars with the same ground clearance as shorter cars will have lower breakover angles. But, in an SUV like Scorpio, Mahindra must've investigated a number of options and trade-offs and arrived at this design of very little space behind the third row. It might be illustrative to compare the length, wheelbase and leg room across the three rows of various unibody and body-on-frame SUVs to see where the trade-offs are. The lack of space behind the third row is not making the XUV7OO any less popular, so perhaps that could also have factored in the decision.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I don't know if we are all over analyzing a design of a mass market car. After all we tolerated boxes like Wagon R, Celerio , Santro , SPresso , frogs( my sisters opinion) like Dzire v1 and hatch-with-boot like the original Indigo. It's a Scorpio. No matter how misshapen it looks, it will sell. Sirf naam hi kaafi hai.

.
I would like to point out that the additional boot space comes at the cost of additional length. Fortuner and Endeavour were 20-25 cms longer than BoF MUVs like Hexa/Innova Crysta but still can not match the boot space of the latter vehicles. All that extra length is going to the bonnet to give that 'butch SUV' look.

Even the new generation Scorpio-N is unlikely to be longer than XUV700 which measures under 4.7 metres, which is 20 cms less than Fortuner/Endeavour. Mahindra knows that it will sell upwards of 5000 copies per month of a 4.6 m long Scorpio, but will sell less than 1000 copies if the Scorpio becomes a 4.9 m vehicle with decent boot space(as was Alturas G4). Hence Mahindra is simply being smart.

Anyone who needs a Mahindra with more boot space and 7 seats, can always go for Marazzo. Scorpio is not meant for them.

This is a newly unveiled car and the whole purpose of this thread and website is to analyse and share our opinions. Looks are a very important draw to the Scorpio, as in my experience of driving the previous one.
Just because it will sell doesn’t mean that any criticism is not valid.

I like the play on the name - Scorpio evolves to Scorpion! The N being Next-gen I guess. Scorpio-N - hah! Awesome work Mahindra. You got us talking.
