What's tyre size? Is it the same as OE i.e 235/65 r17?

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

I am astounded that amidst this competition, Safari or atleast Harrier is not offered in a 4x4 AWD variant. The XUV700 has it, Alturas has it, why not this?

It is a business decision for optimization of resources to meet needs of masses (and our bad luck).

How many Safaris Dicor/Storme were bought 4x4? May be not even 10% or may even as low as 5% were 4x4. I had bought Storme 4x4, but in 6.5 years that it served me, I never needed to use 4x4 not even in slushy trails. 2W RWD was enough for taking me places, 4x4 was just for assurance/confidence to take on any roads.

Other thing is that Tata cars get most of the flak. When Storme 2012 was launched, everyone used to complain about 55 litres fuel tank capacity. The fuel tank capacity was increased to 62 litres in 2015 facelift with 150PS 320NM. Did the sales increase? No. Again Dec 2015 facelift increased torque to 400NM, and even it did not help. So those who buy, buy Safari, others only complain about the stuff missing in Safari.

How many Safari Storme did I see with 4x4 till today? May be just a handful.

If we take a step back, how many Safaris were sold vis-a-vis the competition? At one point I guess Scorpio was selling 4 times as much!

Sure, it might be sound business decision to not provide the 4wd(or awd) hardware, but, if you bring back a nameplate which was revered for it’s “make your own road” credentials, do take the effort to equip it suitably. Unless, ofcourse, this was always meant to be a Gravitas or Harrier+ and not a “Safari”.

How many AWD XUV/Scorpios do we really see? But how long is their waiting period if one wants to buy them now?

Its the advertised AWD capability & that 1 photo with 2 wheels hanging in the air in a rut - that impresses the customers to walk into the showroom. They may buy the 4x2 base variant based on the budget - but the 4x4 badge is what has pulled them to the showroom.

Tata's market research (at least thats where Tata put's the credit/blame) - has taken them into a hole & Covid19 has put a welded lid on it.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

The new Safari / Harrier have great road presence. AWD (yes, I drive a AWD XUV500) would have been icing on the cake. Have the niggles listed by Team-BHP been sorted out? Sluggish infotainment is not something that is acceptable at the price tag.

That's just a response for the media. Actually, they wanted to test the waters. If Harrier is well accepted, they would've planned to invest in 4x4 testing. 4x4 R&D is a part of the car's total R&D. Tata wants to skip the 4x4 investment now and save it. Given the issues in Harrier and Safari, 4x4 might make things worse. So they are better off without it.

That's why any car should be launched with all guns blazing. People make up their mind about a product soon as it is launched, and don't look back at it even if it is improved in further iterations. Ask anyone about xuv700 even now. It is still considered VFM even though the prices have been raised a few times now. When launched with multiple powertrain options, it definitely seems like an attractive offering.

Hope they make the design a bit more proportional. This was the reason why I hated the safari's design while also loving how the harrier looks. The Harrier is curvy all around, front and back - proportional. But the safari's front is curvy like the harrier but as it gets to the back, it becomes boxy, it is especially evident when you look at the side profile - not proportional. Also the raised glass for the third row on the top looks very weird, a nice flowing window line is better imo.

Also, is it me or are the taillamps protruding way too much? Bug eye design.

Perspective, I love the rear design more than harrier.
Also, I prefer the stepped roof rather than the sloppy one on Sunroof models.

This is the only accessory that made sense in the catalogue , so we have ordered it.
Hi Kosfactor, How is the experience with side-steps on safari? Is ground clearance manageable with full occupancy? I am thinking to get them for same reasons on my Wanderer XZA+. Will be better to get them after market or Tata one's are good quality? Sorry for so many questions.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Hello all,

I have completed 20k kms in over 14 months in my Safari XZA. When I sent the car for yearly service it had run around 14k. So I asked the SA to change the engine oil. After driving for 15k kms oil change light started blinking. Initially I thought that oil might have leaked. Checked it but found it to be okay. Then on calling the SA, he told me that it is normal and the sign would come up every 15k kms. I asked him whether they had reset the sensor during the oil change service. He said that they can't do it until and unless the car has run 15k kms. So if you change the oil early, you would need to visit the service center twice, which is a bit inconvenient.

At 20k mark I went for wheel balancing, alignment and tyre rotation. The SA told me that the front brake pads are at the end of their life. This is too early in my opinion and I am a sedate driver.

As everyone know the HU is problematic and I have learnt to live with it. So don't mind it much.

Apart from these 2 issues I am very happy with the ownership so far. Although the authorized service station is too burdened, the SA has always been helpful. But the same can't be said about the front desk staff.

Regards
