1. I haven't faced anything as that off yet.
2. Yes, unfortunately, Kia has omitted the inbuilt perfume diffuser cartridge from Air Purifier. I was so surprised that I don't remember checking the slot 'n' number of times.
Thanks Arikarin!
I'll check with the service centre on the vibrations then.

30,000 km Milestone! First Long Road Trip with Our Seltos

Happy New Year, Team-BHP!

Covering around 1,700 km over 7 days, this journey was filled with adventure, family bonding, and many memories.

Nizamabad ➡ Hyderabad ➡ Dandeli ➡ Goa ➡ Solapur ➡ Nizamabad

While we frequently do highway runs between Nizamabad and Hyderabad, this was our first time taking the Seltos beyond Hyderabad. We had no idea how the trip would pan out with a 4-year-old, but we thought, let's do it and take it one day at a time. After the trip, we wanted to do more road trips, and that's how much we enjoyed it!

We managed to enjoy the entire week-long vacation for just ₹50,000! That included fuel, food and stays. Shopping excluded

Wish you many happy miles

Couldn't help but notice couple of things which might need attention - Child seated on front seat and you lying down on rear seat while driving on highway. Both of these could be potentially unsafe and should be avoided.

Completely agree! We did it for about 100km. Having said that, no explanation will justify why we did that. Not doing it again

Fuel Efficiency - 13.1 km/l

Things I liked -
  • Refined and Powerful Petrol Engine
  • Gearbox Performance
  • Design Language
  • Feature Packed

  • Fit and Finish

Things that could have been better -
  • Headlights Performance
  • Wired Apple & Android Carplay
  • No Memory Function for Driver Seat
  • Image Stitching of 360 Camera

2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-img_9940.jpg

ODO stands at 2770 as of today

My experience so far with the car -

The Good
  1. Engine plus gearbox -

Most of the drives so far were on open highways and expressways, this engine and gearbox combo feels right at home on open roads. City drives are also smooth, have driven in extensive traffic but never felt any jerkiness with the gearbox, maybe accelerator modulation is the key here. Keep a light foot and it will not try to change gears often. This 1.5L turbo engine combined with a 7 DCT is a very refined combo. The one time I felt the jerkiness with gear changes were when we started an uphill climb for the first time just after crossing Punjab but after that it was a smooth experience in Himachal. On open highways this engine will never feel underpowered and there’s always power available on a slight tap of accelerator.

Have driven in normal and sports mode till now and - mind you, once you start driving in sports mode, normal mode will start to feel lethargic and the kick-down acceleration is ADDICTIVE. Maybe that’s the reason I have not yet tried Eco mode yet.

  2. Ride quality -

Coming from Tata Zest and Volkswagen Polo I didn’t find suspension to be uncomfortable as both the previous cars had balanced and stiff suspensions. During delivery checked the tyre pressure and surprisingly it was 34 PSI and I kept it like that only. Drive SLOW on undulations and speed bumps and you are good to go. It takes on expansion joints and rumble strips much better than Zest and Polo but on mountain roads if you attack a corner at high speeds you'll surely make your passengers on the rear seats uncomfortable with motion sickness.

  3. ADAS -

As most of my drives were on highways and expressways, I used ADAS features like LFA, ACC and they work as expected. I wish they had provided a dedicated button for FCA to turn it on or off on the go. BCW also helps a lot to avoid vehicles (two wheelers which normally shadows your car) in your blind spot. LKA is aggressive and avoiding potholes becomes difficult so I have kept it off. SEW is also a great add on. My final verdict on ADAS is it's not a gimmick but a great add-on in terms of passive safety, it surely helps in increasing the situational awareness of driver but for first couple hundred kilometres the continuous beeps will be a distraction for sure if you are new to ADAS.

  4. Fit and Finish -

While making the decision of which car to buy, me and my fiancee explored various options including VW Virtus, Skoda Slavia, Verna, Creta and one or the other option was missing something. The German sisters lack the luxuriousness in interiors that is expected at this price range. Verna’s ground clearance does not give a sense of comfort for our roads and Creta’s top variant price was a little on the higher end with omission of some features as compared to Seltos. With X line’s sage green interiors, soft touches and piano black inserts - we get the feel of the premium paid for it.

  5. Looks -

Kia is known for its unique styling and good looks but on the top of it with Seltos X Line, it has done a really fine job. X line introduced in Aurora Black Pearl colour was one of the factors which inclined me towards this model of Seltos as Graphite Matte finish would have been harder to maintain. Also, the fact that X line comes with all black grille and no silver/chrome inserts makes it look stealthy and powerful. In short, there is nothing more I could have asked for in the exteriors of Seltos X Line variant.

    2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-img_9843.jpg

No chrome definitely adds to the stealthy looks

    2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-img_9689.jpg

    Beautiful sage green interiors

    2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-img_9873.jpg

    Interior ambience during night
  6. Convenience -

Well here I think Seltos scores much better than the competition. What people often perceive as gimmicks i think they do help in making your drive convenient. I have listed some features below which i find useful and makes my drive comfortable.
    • Seat ventillation
    • 360 deg camera
    • Dual zone climate control
    • Heads up display
    • ADAS
    • UV cut glasses
    • Sunglass holder
    • 2nd row window shades

      2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-img_9847.jpg

Dual climate control is much needed when you and your partner's comfortable temperature is different

What could have been better
  1. Headlight -
It’s BAD. My 2016 Tata Zest with projector headlamps worked much better. I find the low beams non existent when there's glare coming from oncoming vehicles with their high beams on. Have to choose between driving with high beams or not able to see the road ahead of me.

  2. Wired apple carplay and android auto -
I don’t mind the wired connection but at this price point getting the option for wireless is not too much to ask for.

  3. Driver seats memory function-
With the convenience of electric seats it’s a great miss to not include memory function. Me and my fiancee takes turns driving it and with memory function changing drivers mid drive would have been very convenient.

  4. Seat comfort-
As highlighted by members I am also finding it difficult to find a sweet spot for seat position. Most of the drives so far have been long ones and I feel discomfort in my right leg. While en-route Gurgaon to Udaipur I was driving alone and every 2 hour I felt the need to stretch my legs just because of the discomfort. I feel pain in my right knee and hamstring. Any suggestions for what can be done about this? My height is 5’4 and yet to find the root cause for this discomfort.

Random experiences worth sharing
  • I wanted to take the delivery of vehicle with HSRP number plate but due to delay from RTO end I got my number plated on the next day of delivery. Went to the dealership the next day and handed over the car keys for fixing of number plates while I was waiting inside the showroom. Also Kia connect had to be activated that day so after the installation of number plate SA asked me to come inside the car for activation of KIA connect and after the process was completed we headed home. Here’s the twist - after parking at home, I searched for the keys to lock the car but it was not in my pocket. The car was meeting all 3 conditions indicating the keys were inside it. I thought it must have slipped out of my pockets so searched everywhere in the car but couldn’t find it. After searching for an hour or so, went back to the dealership and they found it in 5 minutes. Guess what - it was placed in the sunglass holder by the SA. Takeaway - if you are new to keyless entry system, fix a place where you always keep the keys.

  • At the time of delivery I asked the SA to disable FCA, he told me it’s already disabled and I took his word for it. Couple days later when we were cruising on highway speeds and during an overtake manoeuvre (was overtaking a truck moving in the middle lane from right and there was a bike in front of us in the right most lane so I planned a quick swerving manoeuvre). FCA warning flashed with continuous beeps and luckily I quickly changed lanes and it was limited to just a warning and no emergency braking. After reaching our destination I checked the settings and saw that FCA was enabled. Disabled it and thanked our stars that we didn’t experienced emergency braking in the middle of highway.

  • Did a little efficiency run of about 200 kms while the ODO was still at 450 kms, surprisingly I was able to eek out 18.5 kmpl which is impressive for car this size and the engine which was still in its break in period. Speed during this were in the range of 60-80 kmph.

    2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review-img_9525.jpg

    MID showing average of 18.5kmpl

  • Got the oil change and lube oil filter replacement done at 2700 km. Costed around 1700 bucks and 3 hours of my time, KIA Udaipur needs to up their game.

  • I have ordered a VIOFO A229 plus from USA. My friend will be carrying it for me in February. Getting it 10K cheaper from there so decided to take the risk of getting it from USA and i already had a word with my SA about it and they will help me with the installation part. Decided just to use it by plugging in 12V DC adapter.

  • While in Himachal the inevitable happened. Managed to scrape the rear quarter panel and rear door with an iron rod which was placed just on the side of a very narrow road which was completely in my blind spot. I think I was over relying on 360 deg camera and as soon as the front sensors kicked in I turned the steering wheel fully to drivers side to save it from the protruding branches and the rear side of car came in contact with a iron rod.

Will end this report with some parting shots.

I made the same decision. It's a trade-off between saving money and having warranty support for the camera, and I opted to save money. It's been almost a year since I installed it, and it works great! I did a hard-wired installation and haven't faced any warranty issues.

Black looks stunning. I wish they launched Black in X line when I bought mine back in October. I would have definitely gone for it.

Wishing you happy miles

Look I'm all for democratization of luxury car features but expecting a memory function for seat position in a car which costs 22L on road in 2024 is a bit much.

Maybe in the next five years this feature will make it to this bracket.

Bear in mind, we just got ventilated seats, powered seats and ADAS in mass market cars in the last 5 years.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Hi All,

Happy to be writing on teambhp after being an avid reader here for over an year.

I’m writing this post about how Seltos D AT GTX+ became my first car and the decision of buying it and my first experience with it so far.

Why Seltos: I wanted to buy a car and my search started in Nov 23. We are not very keen on buying a car ASAP, but we have started exploring options that are present in the market at around 20L OTR. With that budget I’m sure I’m in the midsize SUV segment.

Me along with my family have checked out various options in the segment like Creta, Elevate, Hydryder and GV. I haven’t considered German twins and above are the only 4 cars I have considered as potential options. We have checked out Xuv 700, harrier and scorpio N but I’ve backed off as this is going to be my first car and I wanted something that is easy to manage and drive. We are okay to extend our budget upto 25L.

We have waited few months for Creta facelift to be launched and wanted to try it before we finalise a car. I liked elevate but none of my family members liked it. I liked it’s wooden coloured interiors on the top variant, it gave a retro car feel which I liked. We gave multiple test rides and it was good except for the cabin noise. GV and hydryder felt cramped in the back and my mom said no to it upfront and we didn’t even took it for a rest ride.

We have tried facelift creta and seltos and everyone in my family unanimously voted for seltos for the interiors and looks over creta. To drive, both of them felt comparable and almost similar. For a brief period of time I wanted to go with Xline and has almost finalised it. My mom has fixed on the pewter olive color which she absolutely loved and said ‘this or nothing’.

Delivery: We took the delivery and it was a pleasant and seamless experience. It was a joyful ride home. Seltos felt so much easier to drive in the city and on the highway.

My cousin was also in the market to buy a car and he has also finalised on getting a new Seltos. He bought the exact same variant as mine but in white color few weeks after the delivery of my vehicle.

We took my vehicle for a spin to try out all the adas features on the highway to experience them since we didn’t get to try them out in the test rides and everything worked as expected. I still use most of them and I find them really useful in the highways.

Few accidents:

A biker on a scooty has bumped into my car and has damaged the cladding and reflector. Got them replaced under insurance.

Got so much close to the wall while taking the car out of the gate and scratched both the door panels. It’s not just a scratch but a half inch deep groove. Got both the door panels replaced under insurance.

I have covered about 7500 kms in 7 months of ownership and few things that stood out to me.

1. This diesel engine with TC AT gear is a smooth power train and feels effortless to drive in any situation. It cruises like a ship and is very relaxing to drive.

2. I would say this has best in class interiors packed with so many features.

3. Of all the features ventilated seats and 360* camera are the two things which I liked the using most.

4. I have read reviews in the forum about the stiff suspension, upon test riding all the rivals you can definitely say it feels stiffer in comparison. That’s what I like in this car since 80% of my journeys are on highways this suspension comes into play keeping the car stable planted at triple digit speeds. It masks the expansion joints and do not make it bouncy. I maintain 32psi cold tyre pressure. You will have to ride a little bit slow on sharp potholes.

5. Looks though subjective but to me, this is the best looking and stylish of the lot.

6. Service experience has been fantastic. I’ve visited the body shop for 1000kms checkup and two times for the insurance claims. Each time it’s been a good experience. Kia dealership accepted orders for replacement parts even before the initiation of claim process thus by reducing the time required for the car to be at the body shop. They’d call me saying the part is ready and they can start the claim process if I drop the car. Both the incidents they delivered the car on the next after the repairs.

7. No wireless AA/ACP in a 25L car. I love technology and this is a letdown especially lower variants offer this.

8. Placement of wireless charger makes it hard to place the phone and remove it.

9. Slight back pain if you ride for long without figuring out the perfect position for your height. You’ll have to tryout various seat adjustment positions. I’ve tried and found mine and it got so much better since then.

Overall it’s been an excellent ownership experience as a first car. It’s almost perfect in every sense be it having good powertrain, good comfort, perfect size to go around in the traffic and all the features you need in a car.

I had to call Kia Road side Assistance for one of the cars and what the tow truck driver shared with me is, that in fact a lot of Kia cars are facing the same issues and are being towed to the service centre.
TeamBHP to rescue again. I have faced this issue with my Seltos DCT as well about 4 times now. Work had been keeping me busy so I couldn't invest time into taking the car to the service and request a RCA. But from your post it seems like this is a known issue. This is what happened to me the first time;
The car started normally, but after the first signal stop started behaving like it 'wants' to shut down. This is right after the idle start-stop kicked into place. I initially didn't notice for a couple of seconds but then took it to the side of the road to give it a breather. Before I could come to a stop, the engine had shut down. I hit the starter motor, engine didn't turn on. I took 10 seconds and tried again, the engine came to life but wanting to shut down again. I entered a little bit of accelerator input, the car wanted to fight and I eventually gave up as I didn't want to escalate whatever issues it was having. I gave it more time to take a breather and tried again. Boom, back to normal, as good as new.

It happened again two more times, both times right after the idle start-stop brought engine back to life. I had this feature turned off since the day I brought the car so I naturally assumed this is what was causing the issue. But nevertheless, the issue cropped up again once more when I had the start-stop turned off, this time randomly while idling outside my house. All of these 4 instances were close to each other, but haven't reappeared since the last 45 days at least. My car would have been at around 13k kms when the issue first appeared and I must have driven another 2k after the last instance. I have already had an issue earlier which showed up on the instrument cluster as well, throttle body was cleaned and errors were reset before the car was handed over to me. This specific instance was around the 6th month mark I think. The stalling issue is more recent.

I'd like to know if there are others on the forum who are facing this issue, couldn't find something on the internet / forum for Verna 1.5, could this be a Kia specific issue?

I see what you are saying, however, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect the Seltos X-line DCT which is ~23.5 lacs on road Delhi to offer a memory driver seat, especially when the Hyundai Alcazar Signature DCT (less than 24.5 lacs on road Delhi), which is a bigger car, can offer it. A powered seat without the memory function isn’t that usable IMHO and manufacturers should consider offering it even at a slightly higher price point.

Yeah, beats me why Pune dealers refuse to give discounts. I'll post a review soon, Did you finalize on the virtus? And what discounts were you able to get?

Regarding headlights, When I showed them the issue, they immediately accepted to replace them. They have already placed the order and expecting for the part to arrive in 15 to 20 days. Apparently the headlights assembly isn't replaced by KIA but instead by the manufacturer who is supplying them to KIA. Below is the conversation on WhatsApp

Sir our warranty coordinator take the pics of both head lights DRL and send it to vendor and he gave approval to replace both the head lights assembly. Just now I wrote the parts in order book sir our spares team will order it today.

Hello bharathdonti, Thank you for sharing your experience and for keeping us updated on how KIN is addressing this issue with the headlights which is indeed a manufacturing and design defect. Knowing that the supplier is directly managing the replacement adds some transparency to the process, which is always appreciated. Interestingly, I’ve been dealing with the exact same defect on my car as well since the start of ownership. This yellowing and reduction in light output is a permeant consequential damage due to high moisture trapped inside these lighting assemblies. The yellowed and reduced light output on the road is frustrating, especially since the LEDs are getting permanently damaged after just 14 months. It's a well know defect in multiple KIN vehicles now and still not fixed by KIN which is a serious low visibility safety hazard for vehicle owners and other road users.

It turns out they ordered parts for a Seltos that’s currently in their body shop. Since body shop work takes time, the SA has agreed to install the part on my car instead.

I requested that they not begin the installation until I arrive at the showroom tomorrow, and I insisted on being present for the entire fitting process. They agreed to this arrangement.
They always say 'give us time' like it’s some kind of excuse, but it feels more like a cover-up for bigger issues with the car's quality. A lot of these problems in new cars seem to stem from manufacturing defects, and instead of owning up to it, they just try to buy time. It's honestly frustrating, I have had the same excuses said to me at first since they don't keep a stock of spare parts at hand to fix issues with vehicles. After all this time and endless trips to the ASC, the defect is still there. Seems like KIN and KIN dealerships have only thing they've managed to fix—nothing !!

I visited the showroom this morning, where they opened the parts in my presence. The entire warranty process might take close to an hour, so I expect the work to be completed by the end of the day.

One thing the service advisor mentioned is that since I have PPF installed on my car, the PPF is also extended over the headlights. They noted that there might be some damage when removing the headlight assembly since the entire front bumper needs to be taken off. However, they assured me that they would take the utmost care to limit any damage to the PPF.

After installing the new headlights and conducting tests, the service team discovered that both headlights sent by the vendor were intended for the left side of the vehicle . They removed the entire unit and reinstalled the old headlights.

Since the warranty process is complete, the service advisor has informed the vendor that the car is currently at their body shop. He is confident the new parts will arrive at the service centre within a week.

Also, in the entire installation process, the PPF has remained intact
How does a global company like KIN mess up this badly? Their QA and QC are a joke in India—incorrect parts sent out, and it's causing endless hassle for us. It’s embarrassing that a big brand can’t even get basic quality control right here, I’m honestly baffled—why the heck is there a price difference for the LH and RH headlights? It's the same part, just flipped! The whole thing feels so ridiculously foolish !!

Hello bridgekids88, I am using WOLFBOX G900 Rear View Mirror Dash Cam Front and Rear, 4K + 2.5K for Car with 12" Full Touch Screen. I have hardwired it to my Seltos. I have it installed on WOLFBOX OEM Bracket for USB C type. I have been using this dash cam for two years now. It's good and you can go for it. Its a OEM type fit and finish product for all cars.

Hi blogslogger, they did mess it up in my car, I lost my calm and had to raise my voice to get lights properly aligned after fitting them in my car. At KIN dealership, It’s like asking a cat to fix your car—they had no idea what they were doing, made a bunch of empty promises that everything was fine and I will have no issues with the car , and somehow made things worse even with new replacement headlight assemblies fitted to the car without correctly aligning them. They were in a hurry to mark the running repair service as completed. Honestly, I’m so disappointed with the state of these KIN authorized dealerships, It’s such a letdown . In just two days the new replacement fog lights are showing same defects again, they have high moisture condensation and fogging inside them in just two days and 100 KMS of normal city driving in dry weather conditions. No concrete and permanent resolution or communication has been provided till date by KIN dealership or KIN. I am forced to use the vehicle with these unresolved safety defects resulting in low visibility repeatedly on road till date.

What caught my attention was that Kia never gave me any formal job card for this replacement, whereas for any other manufacturer (even Hyundai) have always given a ‘zero bill’ for the said warranty replacement.
Ask for a 'zero bill' mentioning the items and service, part numbers and codes. It's mandatory for ASC to provide it even in case of warranty replacements. These bills with correct time and date ,mentioning the ASC name, part numbers and service labor codes and costs involved are required if you face some problems in near future.

Hi sunilarkt this kind of fogging is not normal , It's recurring and does not go away while driving with lights switched ON. looking at the images posted by you, the fog lamps also have high moisture condensation built up inside them. Check with your KIN ASC and ask them to fix this recurring issue with all front lights permanently at once , IT's NOT NORMAL, it reduces visibility on road and causes dangerously low visibility in rainy night driving conditions. The light assemblies trap high and severe moisture inside them permanently damaging and turning LEDs yellow reducing their light output on Road. This is consequential damage caused due to manufacturing and design defect in KIN vehicles. kindly share clearer pictures of all front lights with moisture condensation along with ownership time and Odometer readings of you Seltos. Multiple owners including myself are facing this issue due to faulty design and manufacturing of all front light assemblies.

Hi ashis89, The manual states that it should go away when the car is parked , It never goes away when the vehicle is driven with lights switched ON. THIS IS NOT NORMAL and must be fixed as the lights are designed and provided for driving on road in day and night and in all weather conditions. This recurring and severe fogging is a safety hazard which results in low visibility, Its a manufacturing and design defect with multiple KIN vehicles in India.
