Yes it is closed now. Vehicles are re routed via Kutta - Mananthavady route.

From Bangalore/Mysore side, the fastest option would now be via HD Kote - Bavali- Kattikulam- Mananthavady- Periya ghats. But this route is open only between 6 AM and 6 PM. So for night journeys, one has no other option other than the Mysore-Hunsur-Kutta-Tholpetty-Mananthavady route which is around 25 Kms longer than the one via Bavali.
Either route would add another 1.5 hrs of commute time compared to the regular Makutta route.

Just saw in the news that traffic is blocked via Palchuram ghats. Calicut- Wayanad road is also blocked near Koduvally. Vehicles are rerouted via Kuttiady ghats.

Mananthavady palchuram route is fine as of now.

I took the Sullia route and reached in 8 hrs on Thursday. Virtually no traffic all the way!

Drove down to Kannur via Paal churam today. No issues, no traffic, it was a smooth drive. Left Bangalore by 4.30, reached Lannur by 12.30.

Any update on this route? I am planning to travel to Kannur next weekend. Would be great if experts can advise on the best route

The direct route via Virajpet-Makutta ghats remain closed till July 12 for repair works. Alternate route for a day drive would be Mysore-HDKote-Bavali-Mananthavady-Periya ghats/Boystown-Kuthuparamba-Kannur.
For a night drive, Mysore-Hunsur-Gonikoppal-Srimangala-Kutta-Mananthavady-Periya ghats/Boystown-Kuthuparamba-Kannur.

The bridge at Thithimathi before Gonikoppal was damaged and closed during last week. Any update on if it is re-opened?

The temperory bridge which had caved in has been repaired and traffic is being allowed. The U/c bridge will take another 2 months or so to complete, authorities say.

'Star of Mysore' reports that a bridge that was u/c between Gonikoppal and Thithimathi will take another month to complete. Till then, only small vehicles would be allowed on the makeshift bridge
