Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

I agree with everything you said. The pain started right from pre-credits action scene which is the most awaited. That was a damp let down. And, anyone could have done the roles all these stalwarts did. I've written off this movie totally.

Waste of such a brilliant actor as Christoph Waltz. Gutted, to say the least.
Monica Belluci and Christoph Waltz were humiliated when it comes to screen time. Dave Bautista is barely terrifying or fear imposing. He doesn't even get a dialogue!

I liked Prometheus

Precisely why I do not read reviews in such movies and then go. I watched the thing and found it to be quite watchable despite PVR screwing up my viewing (was literally sweating, light remained on 10 mins after the interval) Yes, it is no where near Skyfall - possibly among the best Bond Movies of all time.
Agree with Christopher Waltz part - he literally was unused. He is a mighty fine actor and felt the director and the script did not do justice.

Daniel Craig was good, so was Lea Seydoux. I am not sure why people felt this was slow but the content was fairly high for a 2.5 hours which possibly led to some characters being under developed.

This is a good watch. Rated 7/10

Spectre was a disaster. The last one hour is simply intolerable. The makers should look at Kingsman to learn how to make an entertaining spy movie. Good thing that I watched it only in 100 bucks.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Sad to say but most of the "great" movies are overrated, Hollywood churns out something like one legendary storyline every decade and not more than that. While I respect IMDB rankings and use them everytime before deciding if a movie is worth it, the most overrated movies in the top 250 list are :

1) The Shawshank Redemption - great story no doubt, beautiful cinematography and realistic acting, but #1 & 9.2 may be a bit on the higher side, an 8.5 in my view

2) Godfather - Found it too way too drawn out and slow, I also think Brando is the most overrated (non)actor of all time. 8.0 maybe.

3) Interstellar - 8.5 really? I'm a huge Nolan fan but this movie was far too "out there". 6.0 at best, and yes before people say I didn't understand the science behind it, I did understand but it doesn't mean I should agree with what is basically theoretical physics.

4) Matrix - 8.7? 6.0 at best, it was far from inspiring apart from so called "graphics".

5) Inception - 8.7, don't think so.. a 7.5 in my view.

6) Forrest Gump - IMDB gave it 8.8, I'd give a nice round 7.0

Well enough of controversial ratings, its only my opinion and I'm all too aware its not aligned with popular perceptions. My suggestions for a good Sunday afternoon watch :

1) Camp X-Ray - easily 9.0, a beautiful story based on a realistic plight of prisoners of Guantanamo Bay with a poignant ending.

2) Locke - A one man show with the story stronger than any actor possibly can be.

3) Welcome to the Rileys - Another highly rated Sundance movie with a great story. Kristen Stewart & James Gandolfini at their finest.

4) The Weatherman - A dark comedy.

5) The Gift (2015) - A suspense movie

6) The Machinist - Christian Bale at his finest. No actor can top this.

7) Everybody's Fine - Based on an old Italian movie from what I've read but I think Robert DeNiro has only topped that.

8) Scoop - A typical Allan Konigsberg movie, a mix of comedy, thrills & suspense. ScarJo was a good actress until she took up garbage Marvel projects.

It has already been answered by many posters but I suggest a little different chronology even though it is more likely that you completed the series !

If one follows the general chronology of 1-2-3-4-5-6, there's a great chance that you'd underestimate the level of brilliance involved in the movies since the 1 & 2 appear lackluster and will not inspire you to watch the series. [ 4,5 and 6 are absolute epics and you may not thoroughly enjoy them]

If one follows the chronology of 4-5-6-1-2-3, you'll not have any real surprises since you know how all the characters end even though you'd continue to watch since you're already lost into the Galaxy of the Star Wars.

Start with
1.A New Hope - 4
2.The Empire Strikes Back -5
3.The Phantom Menace - 1
4.The Clone Wars - 2
5. The Revenge of the Sith -3
6. The Return of the Jedi -6

I guess the 4-5-1-2-3-6 order stands up to our expectations while saving the possible plot twists in the oncoming series .

More importantly, we will get to see introduction of the most powerful Character of the Series, Darth Vader in 4 & 5, his evolution in 1,2 & 3 .

May the Force be with You

have seen this order twice. Once alone and twice with family. Its the only way to see the entire series without making the other parts redundant. Although, if you are a little out of patience, you could also drop Phantom Menace out of the list.

The movie is just a month and half old, so it's a little too early to find a good streaming source. I'd wait another 3-4 months atleast.

Just to sum up on my experience with the latest bond film. It was a disaster, bascially a weak storyline coupled with inconsistent screenplay and amazing audacity to challenge the IQ of audiences. I felt that I lost 2hours of my lufe. In fact Rohit shetty may be better, it was so bad. Never again even on TV.

.
Actually lot of people suggest skipping the Episode I though I wouldn't .

How would I miss Liam Neeson's presence ? [ okay, accepted that his character doesn't appeal as much as the man himself ]

And also the Little Anakin seems cute !

And not to mention the villain character Darth Maul. Total bada** wasnt he
I could watch Part 1 just for the fight scenes involving Darth Maul.

Caught Spectre on Thursday on free tickets. There were all of 4 people in the hall, including two of us. I think I took a short nap post the break but didn't seemed have missed much in the movie.

Antman- this is a surprisingly entertaining one from the Marvel universe.

Clockwise (1986), typical British wit. Enjoyable watch.

Finished two seasons of Boardwalk Empire. 9/10, this is a brutal show.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Daniel Craig plus Bond is a treat to watch..No matter how bad the ratings/feedback are, it would be criminal to miss it.
Spectre was a bit of a letdown but definitely not a one to miss !!!
For the Daniel Craig Bond movies, my ranking would be as follows
1.Casino Royale
2.Skyfall
3.Spectre
4.Quantum of Solace

And Yes..For all the Daniel Craig fans..do not miss "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

Spectre : 4/10

What a disappointment. An absolutely rubbish movie.

1 point for the DB 10, 1 point for the Jaaag CX 75, 2 points for the few chuckle worthy moments between Q & 007.
That's it. The plot, the Bond Girls, the stunts, the gadgets, all get a big fat 0. Don't waste your time on this.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Spectre = the most boring Bond movie i've seen so far (no ratings required). there was this moment where all was quiet and i thought to myself am i watching an art movie? (the thinking was out loud unfortunately and the people nearby erupted in laughter).

looks like the director wanted to do a lot of things by failed miserably. every scene seems like something extraordinary is going to happen and then you go that's it?

if you've not seen this yet, don't bother; you're not missing anything. wait for it to the TV in your drawing room.
