Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched Ranjhanaa finally and don't think its a bad movie at all. I am not a Dhanush or Sonam and therefore avoided it for long. A friend kept recommending a watch and I was not disappointed when I did.

2nd half was slow and could have been slick. Dhanush did really well as a debutant in bollywood.

Saw SDR yesterday.
Only first half is good. Second half is boring and repeatative .
Movie feels quite hollow by the end, with characters behaving like stage drama show.
Plus points are casting, dialogues, beautiful capturing of Jaipur city , ,bashing of Yash Chopra theory of romance and Parineeti Chopra.

2.5 /5.0
Can be avoided, do not take kids along

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Grand Masti

This is easily the worst movie of the year so far. The whole movie is a collection of scene's from different movie's although the director does seem very inspired by the Austin Power's movies. They have been ripped off an advertisement and put it as a 'funny' scene in the movie! There is no story at all to talk about. Please do not watch this movie even if someone pays you to do so! I can give you far more entertaining things to do:

- Read the newspaper for the 10th time in a day.
- Take a nap.
- Just sit at home and look at the wall. Even that will be far more entertaining.

Rating: 0.5 / 5 stars.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

John Day

Coming from the producers of 'A Wednesday', I had high expectations from this movie, and they were all shattered in the first 15 minutes.

Supposedly an action thriller, this movie has nothing going for it. The story is convoluted, and proceeds in all haphazard directions leaving you confused and dazed. The acting is pretty poor, with Randeep Hooda giving an always grunting-look angry-brooding look which gets boring after the first 2 minutes. Naseeruddin Shah plays his part well, as ever, but even his contribution cannot save this car wreck of a movie.

Verdict: 0/5. AVOID

Apparently JohnDay is a frame to frame copy of some Spanish film.

Pity it comes from the director of Wednesday.

It's from the producers if A Wednesday not the director.

Special 26 was from the director if A Wednesday.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

I had watched Grand Masti last Saturday.
I would rate it 2.5 out of 5.

The film has many scenes copied from (not just influenced by) Hollywood films such as Ace Ventura and Austin Powers, as well as some funny videos that had gone viral a few years ago. However, the scenes are fit pretty well into the movie.

The first twenty minutes have an overdose of double-meaning dialogues and very few comedy scenes. Later on, the comedy relies more on actions and less on spoken words (which I like).

The movie is neither a prequel or a sequel to Masti. The story line is entirely different.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Last weekend i end up seeing 2 movies which were rather off-beat in terms of Bollywood context.

1) BA Pass - Liked the concept of the movie. Bit difficult to digest but might be a dark reality of urban India. Shilpa Shukla has portrayed a very bold character. If you just see this movie with a mindset of a c grade movie, you might get disappointed. But you might get a food for thought if you plan this to see with an open mind with somewhat a social issues being portrayed.

My opinion - 2.5 stars

2) Nasha - Don't know why i saw this movie. It is totally a waste of time and Poonam Pandey fails both as an actress as well as in the department she is famous for . The story i believe is a blend of Hollywood/Bollywood movies like Malena & Ek choti si love story.

My opinion - 1 star

Agreed. You sympathize with the protagonist and hope things work out and at the same time marvel at the character played by Shilpa Shukla. Brazen is word! The director does justice to the theme and mood of the film most of the time.

Solid 2.5 to a passable 3 stars from my side.

I just finished watching this on your recommendation. Not a B-Grade movie by any standards. All actors did a wonderful job. Depicts the ugly side of reality today. My 3 stars!

Watched it yesterday at INOX, Forum Value Mall.
Enjoyed it thoroughly. Didnt know how the time passed.
The elements of comedy, life and romance are very subtly built.

Its worth to watch, better to watch with loved ones. Awesome movie.

After a long time, enjoyed this ORIGINAL INDIAN Romantic Comedy.
Yes comedy.

Beautiful movie by Karan Johar, Ronnie Screwala and Anurag Kashyap.
Nirmat Kaur looks super pretty and infran as usual is at his best.

no need to think twice to spend money on this one!!
Enjoy madi sir!!

I agree, loved the movie. It is a movie for mature audience. Not sleazy and handled very well.
