Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Good or bad, I just hope that youngsters are matured enough to understand that this is a movie and they don't conduct themselves in the manner the protagonist does in the movie. There are more people who would get attracted to bad ways of looking cool than those taking inspiration from the likes of say Bhag Milkha Bhag, Neerja, MSD etc.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Article 15

Based on Article 15 of Indian constitution, a hard hitting social/crime thriller by Anubhav Sinha raises pertinent points about Indian social setup. Whether one likes the film or not depends on how one views the Indian society based on caste system. Story line is crisp, dialogues laced with humor are noteworthy.

Ayushmann Khurrana's film all the way.

Excellent direction by Anubhav Sinha. Manoj Pahwa, Sayani Gupta have given commendable performance.

Ewan Mulligan's cinematography is excellent.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Guys, am craving to go to the cinema and watch a good Hindi movie, but damn it, there has been a dry season since a while (last two good ones were Gully Boy & Uri IMHO). Thackeray, we walked out in the middle.

Now "Super 30" seems to have good reviews. What are you guys hearing? Word on the street? Any BHPian reviews? Thanks.

Cousin saw it and said by Bollywood standard it's an honest try and good timepass. Will watch it soon.

If you haven't seen Kabir Singh it's a good one too.

See if Article 15 is still on screens. It's a great watch and I did not regret a bit sitting through this 2 hour long Hindi movie.

At the moment it looks like, stay at your desk and give us the Compass Trailhawk and Hector reviews. :

On a serious note Article 15 is good. Off late I would watch Ayushman, Rajkumar Rao and Vicky Kaushal movies without a thought. They are supremely talented.

Article 15 = 3.5 stars.

The only negative being the romantic track that adds nothing to the storyline.

Brilliant performances all round.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

^ Thanks guys!

Super 30 = 3 / 5 stars.

Worth one watch, especially because it's inspired by a true story. But it's not a "theatre" watch per se, you could even wait for it to hit the television.

First half was good, but the second gets slow, even boring at times. Some parts over the top too. A good reminder of how fortunate we are to have what we do. There are so many who don’t have access to basic stuff and yet struggle and fight it out in this world.

Hritik has acted very well. I'm a bigger fan of Pankaj Tripathi though.

Watched Kalank last Saturday on Amazon Prime - 2/5

Performances by the star studded cast have made the film watchable which otherwise has nothing in it. The larger than life artificial sets was really bad and unnecessary IMO. to put it in simple words..."Too much is too bad"

Arijit's title song is nice but all his songs sound the same

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched Super-30. Honestly, its a very average movie. I feel that Hrithik, though a handsome man and a great dancer, but has very limited acting skills and overacts a lot (pun intended). Never in the movie he looks natural unlike other actors, esp. Pankaj Tripathi. Hrithik’s dialogue delivery feels like he is putting a lot of extra effort which spoils the natural feel n flow.

As GTO says, first half is okay and sets up a good premise for the other half, but sadly the movie loses steam just after. The movie could have been made a lot better. At the max, I can rate it as 2.5 on 5. Not worth a watch in theatre.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

With such a dry season of top-class Hindi movies, I thought I'll watch an evergreen classic.

Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2 on Prime Video . Top class movies. If you haven't already, watch it and be wow'ed!

Trivia: Was supposed to be a single 5-hour long movie, but was sensibly split up into two parts.

Watched Article 15 on Netflix last night.

What a thought-provoking, hard-hitting movie, made with appropriate subtlety and without unnecessary drama or theatrics.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Surprisingly no reviews for two running movies! Let me do the honours:

Mission Mangal: Good watch. Vidya Balan and Akshay Kumar are great fit in their roles. Other actors are good too. Taapsee is looking very pretty Sanjay Kapoor also has a small role in the movie but that looks rather annoying ranting about his children every time. Movie is based on India’s mission to Mars with added Indian movie masala flavours. But it is great to see how India managed this mission with the financial constraints and even limited technology. In fact, India has used the same technology for Chandrayaan-2 as well. Not to forget, India, with this mission became the first country in the world to reach Mars in its first attempt. So, you will carry that proudly while walking out from the theatre.

My rating 3.5/5

Batla House: John Abraham packs a powerful performance. Ravi Kishan is great in his 5-10 minute screen time. Mrunal Thakur is looking good but she can improve her acting and especially her dialogue delivery skills. The movie is based on true account but could have done better with tighter direction. The first half lacks clarity and the audience is left wondering at times. The second half is better but the movie overall doesn’t make a kind of impact that it could have with better direction, especially given John Abraham ‘s stellar performance and good storyline.

Overall I would rate it as 3/5.

True.
Also, a lot depressing too when you consider it all happens to so many people in reality. This movie hits you right in the guts. Must say Ayushman has come a long way. Must watch if you like intense movies.

Chichhore -
It's like Jo jeeta wahi sikandar meets 3 idiots. Acting and direction is quite good. Support cast is great. They were able to hit the social message too. After long we have a genuine funny movie. Enjoyed a lot.
Will rate it 8/10.
